Cast:
John Travolta (Ryder) – Evil Whitey.
Denzel Washington (Garber) – saintly non-whitey.
James Gandolfini (Mayor) – Rudy Giuliani + 50 pounds.

Is Hollyweird running out of original ideas? In a word, yes. And no. Oh, there are original ideas out there, but in a world where La La Land nepotism, political correctness and a struggling Obamelosi economy rule the day, you’re likely to see more remakes, sequels, prequels and “safe” movies. Movies that can be made quickly, sell toys or promise not to be oh-fensive to whiney minorities. Hence we have the remake of the 1974 classic The Taking Of Pelham 123. They didn’t even change the title, which heretofore will be known as TP123 (“TP” as in toidy-paper ). To watch the original 1974 film and then go see this remake is to witness, indisputably, the absolute decline in mainstream Hollyweird filmmaking. They could have easily re-titled the film:Vinny Barbarino’s Wild Ride.

The PC in TP123 flies out from the beginning, when we hear the first conversation laced with gratuitous F-Bombs, N-Words, B&H-words, etc. These are the first words spoken in the film. Now I’m not a prude and I know it’s New Yawk City, but come on. There is only one character in the film that doesn’t trash-talk and guess who that is. Right! Garber (Denzel Washington). Not only that, but as the film rolls on it’s impossible not to notice Hollyweird’s Sacred Minority Rule, whereas if there is only one featured ahk-tor of any one so-called self-proclaimed “minority” in a Hollyweird flick, that ahk-tor’s character will be endowed with angelic qualities. Basically put, Hollyweird hesitates to portray any black character as a bad guy. By doing so, Hollyweird proves how racist liberals actually are. Bad-guy roles are the most fun you can have as an ahk-tor, but most Hollyweird screen plays deny this fun to black ahk-tors. Imagine the screeching from the left if the character’s races were reversed – the black guy steals the train and the white guy saves the day.TP123 is the embodiment of the Sacred Minority Rule.

To further illustrate that point, we have Travolta’s character, “Ryder.” Ryder is Vinnie Barbarino on crack. As he negotiates hostages for cash, Ryder “outs” Garber as a thief. As it turns out, Garber has taken a bribe. But why did Garber take the bribe? It was for the most overused liberal excuse in the Lefty-Book-Of-Wimpy-Excuses; “It was for the children.” Yes! The chiiiiiiiilllldrennn (insert harp music here). At the end of the film, Garber’s thievery is actually excused by the Mayor.

When a “minority” person steals, it’s an understandable reaction to 300, no …600, no … 4000 years oppression by DA MAN. When a Whitey steals, it’s bad.  Shoot Whitey! Shoot Whitey now! Illegal activity is inexcusable if you are Caucasian. I know this, because Hollyweird tells me so.

The other PC concept is the whole Evil-Wall-Street-Capitalists concept. In the 1974 version, the train-nappers are out for the money. Pure, old fashioned American extortion – just like the IRS; “give us your money or bad things will happen.” Not so with these new millennium subway bandits. These guys are out to crash Wall Street so they can make a killing in the foreign currency exchange markets (no kidding). The idea here is a “terrorist” scare in NYC will cause panic in the market. This, of course, is laughable. The very idea that Wall Street needs Vinnie Barbarino and his gang of jarheads to have a catastrophically bad day is comical. Heck, if the market can survive President O-Frauda’s Stimu-Pork package, it’s not going to be affected by a goof holding hostages on a train. Nevertheless, Hollyweird wastes no time demonizing the Capitalist moneymakers.

Capitalism is bad. Caucasian Capitalists are even worse (Hollyweird studio execs excepted). I know this, because Hollyweird tells me so.

Then there’s the rudimentary PC Christian bashing. For some reason, unknown to me, they have a whole discussion about Ryder being Catholic. Why this is important to the story is never explained. All they do is point out that the bad guy is Catholic.

Bad Catholic train-robbers! Bad bad bad!

Imagine the caterwauling from the liberals if they switched “Catholic” with “Hassidic Jew” or “Wiccan” or better yet “Atheist.”Lookout! There’s a Hassidic Wiccan Atheist hijacking the train! Oh nooooooo!"

TP123 has three of the 5 Bachelor B’s: Blood, Bashes and Bombs. No Beasts, and no Breasts – although Denzel does look kind of pudgy in the front these days. Better hit the gym, Denzel, or you’ll e wearing a man-bra in your next PC flick.

The real question here is, if a bunch of New Yawka’s were held hostage on a train by a bunch of fellow New Yawka’s, would anyone really care?

I give The Taking Of Pelham 123 two Capitalist Dollar Signs (out of 5).
