Overdiagnosed: Making People Sick in the Pursuit of Health
by Oliver Del Signore (Backwoods Home Magazine)

Is it possible that doctors, hospitals, clinics — the whole health care industry — are driving up the cost of health insurance and care by over-diagnosing ; that they are creating more patients who might never have needed to see a doctor or have an expensive battery of tests; that by conducting wholesale screenings of healthy men and women they are harming more people than are helped?

Not having had a chance to read this book yet, I'm glad Oliver reviewed it for us. The book seems to reflect many things I've been saying about standard Western medicine for many years.

Part of my personal healing journey involved a long detour into doctor/medicine land and 17 prescription drugs, attempting to treat several serious conditions at once. Some of those 17 were to treat the side effects of the others, of course, and none of it was taking me anywhere near wellness.

I'd like very much to hear YOUR story, your experience with doctors and especially any diagnosis that sent you down this long slippery slope to over treatment or overmedication. No names or personal details will be used in any way without written permission from YOU, and everything is strictly confidential unless specifically indicated otherwise. Encryption keys are available for anyone who would like to have them.

I'll be reading this book soon, and will be back with an in depth review of my own as soon as possible. In the meantime, I urge everyone to at least consider the idea that your doctor may not be your best friend for health, no matter how nice or sincere he/she is.

Over and over I've made the plea to listen to your own body and take charge of your life yourself. Only then can you find the path to health and wellness.
