Commentary on The News
Posted April 16, 2012By Nathan A. Barton © 2012 I wish I had thought of this: (Godfather Politics) The overly mild winter means that there will be an overabundance of fleas, ticks, ants, flies, spiders and other annoying pests this spring and summer. Likewise, in a presidential election year, there is also an overabundance of politicians running for office with all of their TV, radio and roadside ads. It also struck me that both involve blood sucking parasites that feed off of others. In politics, many of the people running for various offices come across like blood sucking parasites trying to suck every penny out of your pocket. Their commercials often become more annoying than being bitten by fleas and if you don’t protect yourself from them, the results can be almost as deadly. There IS a tradition in the Great Plains of calling Boxelder bugs (Boisea trivittata) "Democrat bugs" or "Republican bugs" depending on the local party in power, because they come out when the traditional primary seasons start each year, they are VERY annoying, and they can do some pretty bad damage to crops and even livestock. And frankly, we need as much humor as we can get when there are so many "poly-ticks" around. Monday, April 09, 2012 Who says the First Citizen isn’t religious? News heard on the radio, Monday the 9th: In addition to his wonderful Easter message (President Obama: ‘Jesus Knew Doubt’) (despite his horrific misunderstanding of the mind of Christ), we have the Easter Monday Egg Roll at the White House, which features such non-religious “physical exercise and healthy” activities like teaching children Yoga. Yeah, no religion, right. European Collapse Europe’s Past Haunts It Still (Dnevni Avaz) No, we aren’t talking about the 100th anniversary of the First Balkan War; that isn’t until October 8th. This is the 20th Anniversary of the Sixth or Seventh Balkan War (it gets so hard to keep track), in 1992. It is, among other things, being commemorated by a line of red chairs, remembering the 11,541 residents of Sarajevo killed in that nasty little war, which still divides Bosnia-Herzegovina into ethnic-religious enclaves. Culture wars - Home front Would Jesus Occupy? by Alan Minsky “Whatsoever you do for the least of My people, that you do unto Me.” --Matthew 25:40 On Easter Sunday 2012, it is important for American Christians, and non-Christians alike, to reflect on Jesus’ teachings in light of a social movement that put some of his most famous actions into practice. The Occupy movement, in its short history, has firmly established an unwavering commitment to serving the poorest and neediest among us, even in the face of severe state repression. The gall of Tranzis and their ilk makes me want to vomit. The Occupy Movement and those who support it are completely antithetical to the life and teachings of Jesus of Nazareth. If such were true, we would read in the Gospels about how Jesus and His disciples were engaged in stealing property in order to give to the poor, rioting and attacking Roman soldiers in the streets, demanding that the Roman government and Sanhedrin steal more in taxes to pay out to the students of the day, and of course, we’d read about the rapes which took place in the encampments of His followers. Minsky uses this diatribe (paid in large part by the government via the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, since he works for a “public radio” station in Los Angeles) to attack the deity of Christ, both “leftwing” and “rightwing” followers of Christ, and of course, anyone who disagrees with him: typical Tranzi tactics. Technology and liberty Asimov's robots live on twenty years after his death (Physorg.com) Renowned author Isaac Asimov died 20 years ago today. Although he wrote more than 500 books, the robot stories he began writing at age 19 are possibly his greatest accomplishment. They have become the starting ... Growing up, Isaac Asimov was one of my favorite science fiction and general science authors, but I was aware of his liberalism from almost the start, and his influence on me helped me firmly place myself OPPOSITE his political, religious, and philosophical positions. Twenty years later, the poverty of his beliefs is even more obvious - his incredible faith in science and the “right” government had been betrayed long before his death, and time and again since then. I'll take Jack Williamson any time: (an understanding that robots are a threat to human freedom if used wrongly - especially tyrannical with the Three Laws if applied as Asimov envisioned them), or Eric Frank Russell or Lloyd Biggle Jr. or other libertarian authors who show the deadliness of human government. Medical technology Handheld plasma flashlight rids skin of notorious pathogens (PhysOrg.com) A group of Chinese and Australian scientists have developed a handheld, battery-powered plasma-producing device that can rid skin of bacteria in an instant. This MAY be a good thing, or another way to subject ourselves to yet another round of “sanitation” which leads to more health problems in the long run. Mama's Note: You are exactly right, Nathan. The skin is the largest "organ" of the human body, and essential to protect us from a great many dangers. Many bacteria live in the skin naturally, and are beneficial. They contribute to a healthy immune response and participate in normal healing. Just as in the digestive tract, the elimination of all bacteria would seriously damage our health and well being. This device might well be an excellent tool in the fight against some pathological conditions, of course. Stupid government tricks EPA: Easter Egg on Its Face (Commentary) (Townhall.com) This is a great commentary, full of facts about recent reverses the EPA has suffered in court and elsewhere, but it touches just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the tyranny represented by the EPA. And to be fair to the EPA, the vast majority of its staffers are honest in their efforts to “protect the environment” but have been corrupted and turned into monsters by the system they work in, and the power given by Congress (intended or not) to a vast and unaccountable bureaucracy, which in turn is feared by state, tribal, and local agencies which depend on the EPA for their very existence as well as the majority of their funding and powers. Stupid legislator tricks Woof: R.I. Democrat Introduces Lap-Dog Legislation (CNSNews.com) A Rhode Island Democrat has introduced a bill that would bar motorists from driving with a dog on their lap, the Providence Journal reported on Monday. No, not The Onion. Apparently, Rhode Island legislators don't have enough to do (not even trying to intimidate cops and wiggle out of DUI charges) and so they suck up to constituents (a soccer mom saw someone who cut her off with a dog in their lap) in preparation for the elections. East Asian front N. Korea Provokes U.S. With Planned Missile Launch, Suspected Moves Towards Nuclear Test (CNSNews.com) Of course, ANYthing can provoke the US these days - and North Korea is clearly angling for yet another bailout. Fortunately, GM and the Solyandra gang have an easier time of getting the White House to pay attention. Of course, what would a threat to nuke Detroit really result in? Have you seen that place lately? Mama's Note: And yet... there is hope even in Detroit. Take a look: Detroit: America's Greece. [Meanwhile, not all Detroit residents are standing idly by, waiting for the government to fix problems in large part caused by the very agencies others are looking to for solutions. As in Greece, voluntary efforts by the citizens to take back their communities are on the rise.] Islamic wars: African front Dozens Die as Suspected Muslim Terrorists Target Easter Service in Nigeria (CNSNEWs.com) This is the sixth or eighth Sunday in a row that "suspected" Islamic killers have struck: this one was stopped by security guards at a distance from the church building but still killed thirty-six people. I am curious to see exactly how Tranzis blame the US for this string of killings: or maybe the West - because it was Europeans and Americans that brought the Gospel to Nigeria and thereby "aggressed" against the Muslims pushing down from the north? Stupid people tricks Design Competition Envisions Major Changes for the National Mall (CNSNews.com) We expect this sort of thing from a decaying civilization AND from a corrupted and dying government: more and more money and effort spent on creating glorious monumental structures and edifices, together with other actions to spread the word about how mighty and powerful and eternal they are. They plan to spend "only" 350 million FRNs: to be "donated" by the public. The historian in me has to wonder if the history of the nation might have been much different if there had only been the Capitol Building and NO White House (Presidential Mansion) - if the President had instead lived in a small house behind or beside the Capitol and been forced to work on a daily basis with Congress instead of in a place like a Caesar. Stupid cop tricks Police Say Revenge May Be Motive in Tulsa Murder Spree (CNSNews.com) I don't suppose the fact that the killer (excuse me, accused killer) has explained that was the situation has anything to do with the cops jumping to these wild conclusions. These two accused are both supposedly "white" (Anglo) but the younger one, who says that blacks killed his father and led to his fiancée's death, certainly does not look fully Caucasian. Of course, many Oklahomans are NOT - but often lumped together in contrast to "blacks" or "African-Americans." Culture wars Pope: Without God and Morality, Technical Feats Are Dangers That Put the World at Risk (CNSNews.com) Benedict makes a good point - one talked about in the Bible since the Tower of Babel and the invention of metalworking. Science and technology do NOT replace morality and religion. But it seems that every generation thought that. Politics 2012 Gingrich: Running for President 'Much Harder Than I Thought' (CNSNews.com) He is, apparently, speaking in past tense - will he now throw his support behind Paul in an attempt to keep Romney from winning? Or are we really down by at least one poly-tick? (or is that mono-tick?) Mama's Note: Can't figure out what that "support" might be worth, actually. Anyone who thought Gingrich should be "president" is not likely to want anything to do with Ron Paul. Stupid Tranzi tricks Source: NBC Fires Unnamed News Producer Over Selectively Edited Zimmerman 911 Call (CNSNews.com) A scapegoat - no surprises here. There is NO WAY that some nameless news producer would have done that without approval from a lot of people. But it seems as though whoever plotted this entire dog-and-pony show made some serious miscalculations, and the whole thing has ALMOST fallen apart. Crash of 2009 - Resource wars U.S. Natural Gas Glut Prompting Production Slowdown (CNSNews.com) Wow. The market at work. Especially given the economy, hit yet again by $4.00/gallon gasoline and bogus "job creation." Self-defense South Carolina: Two burglars shot, killed (Augusta Chronicle) "Authorities say two men are dead after a man said he shot them as they tried to break into his Spartanburg County apartment. Deputies say the man was returning home around 12:10 a.m. Saturday when he fired on the men. Investigators say the gunshot victims were found behind air conditioners at the complex. Deputies say one had a ski mask on his head." (04/07/12) This is yet another shooting from Spartanburg County - which has quite a reputation. The ski mask is kind of a good indication - in April at least - that these dead men were up to no good. It doesn't say if they were armed, but does it matter? Culture wars: killing babies Mississippi: Tighter abortion regulations could close last clinic (Fox News) "Mississippi GOP Gov. Phil Bryant is poised to sign legislation that would tighten abortion regulations and could close the state's only abortion clinic. The state legislature bill sent Thursday to Bryant requires doctors working in abortion clinics to have admitting privileges at a local hospital and be board certified in obstetrics and gynecology." [editor's note: So if you regulate something out of existence, you can ban it without crossing the legal line? Cute! - SAT] (04/07/12) Steve's comment baffles me. If this were an insurance company rather than a state government imposing these regulations, would he STILL object to this? It seems reasonable: admitting privileges and a board certification make sense for someone messing around with someone's plumbing, whether you believe that abortion is evil or not. For decades, abortionists have gotten away with medical malpractice that would land REAL doctors (you know, the ones that take that oath) in prison: Wichita and Philadelphia doctors come to mind immediately. In fact, if regulation of medical practice had been the responsibility of insurance companies instead of government, this clinic would have never opened withOUT such common sense rules. At the same time, this entire legislation shows how successfully the Tranzis have gutted the pro-life movement: this is at best a minor irritant to the abortion industry. Tuesday, April 10, 2012 Self-defense Michigan: Woman claims self-defense in shooting (Redford Observer & Eccentric) "'She swung on me, so I defended myself and swung back,' she said. 'We're fighting in front of my car and this guy comes over and starts choking me. My feet were off the ground and I kneed him right between the legs to get away.' At that point she apparently reached inside her car, pulled out the .22-caliber handgun and fired one shot into the air. ... 'The only reason I grabbed the gun is because the guy was choking me. All I wanted was for him to get away from me.'" (04/08/12) Mama's Note: "Bad Shoot." If she had shot the attacker, of course, she'd be fine. Unfortunately, she endangered innocent bystanders instead with a wild shot into the air. And I'm sure she thinks that was the better choice. Sad. Nathan: This is true. She also wasn't wearing the weapon, which is a bad habit to get into. Too many people think that bullets evaporate way up there somewhere! Stupid people - Stupid UN Fla. Civil Rights Group Welcomes U.N. Official’s Call for Reparations in Trayvon Martin Case (CNSNews.com) A Florida advocacy group spearheading protests over the racially-charged Trayvon Martin shooting has welcomed the intervention of the United Nations’ human rights chief, who has called for the shooter to be put on trial and “reparations for the victims concerned.” “We believe that the United Nations involvement can help prevent another Trayvon Martin situation in other counties across the world,” J. Willie David, president of the Florida Civil Rights Association, said in a statement provided to CNSNews.com on Monday. This is bizarre, but I guess to be expected. This UN chief obviously does not know enough about the situation to even address it properly, but someone has decided this is a fine way to bash Florida (and the United States). If this UN "chief" was so concerned about victims of color, she might have said something about the murders of 36 people in Nigeria this last Sunday, or the hundreds killed in South Sudan and a dozen other African countries this week - or the people killed in Mexico yesterday. First Citizen - First Woman Obama on Why Michelle Was a Working Mom (at $316K Per Year): ‘We Didn't Have the Luxury for Her Not to Work’ (CNSNews.com) Obama said that after his two daughters were born, he and his wife—both Harvard Law School graduates—could not afford the “luxury” of having her stay home with the children. In 2005, when Obama began serving in the U.S. Senate (and his daughters turned 4 and 7), he and his wife were earning a combined annual income of $479,062. Barack Obama was paid a salary of $162,100 by the U.S. taxpayers, and Michelle Obama was paid $316,962 to handle community affairs for the University of Chicago Medical Center. Oh, now THAT is insulting. And VERY revealing as to the kind of opulent lifestyle they led. Even Chicago isn't that expensive - much less DC. To me, it is both proof that they have no idea what the 99% do with - and that parasites like these two people (yes, and their children) are killing the economy. And of course, once more we see ANOTHER set of lies coming from this man. Mama's Note: Indeed... I had a top gross income of $40,000. just ONE year in a 30 year nursing career. And lived on what was left after taxes... we won't even go into all of the other taxes, fees and so forth that came out before I had a dime to spend on food and other essentials. Poor Michelle... such poverty. Stupid people Miss Universe Pageant Allowing Transgender Women (CNSNews.com) It would seem logical today to go by a very simple DNA test: XY or XX? Never mind what the envelope looks like. But heaven forbid that we discriminate against people who are so warped that they have to mutilate themselves. Mama's Note: Actually, I don't know why anyone would care in the least what they do. They can make any rules they like for their insane contests. As long as they are not stealing from me to put it on, it's no skin off my nose. First Citizen Obama's Spokesman Reminds Former Colleagues: ‘I Covered President George W. Bush’ (CNSNews.com) Once more the Administration LIES and, just as a side-comment, slams the former administration and blames them for it. ("It" defined as whatever bullet the First Citizen is trying to dodge.) If I understand this joker (Jay Carney), because Bush frequently decried "judicial activism" then it is okay for the First Citizen to scream the same once in a while, without bothering to define what it means to him. He actually never answered the question. Lies and more lies. Abominable Act - Theft by government Study: Obama's Health Care Law Would Raise Deficit (CNSNews.com) No, really? This is news? Only because yet ANOTHER agency or analyst has found out how to do math. The 4,000 agents of the IRS (funded by a half-billion dollar diversion of White House money) assigned to ObummerCare will of course work very hard to keep this number down. For more information see this. First Citizen - Politics 2012 Obama to Push for Tax on Millionaires in Wealthy Boca Raton -- Amid Fundraisers (CNSNews.com) He can do it here because most of them realize that this is nothing but more lies (excuse me, in this case, "campaign pledges") and that he has no more intention to take more money in taxes from the Buffets and Gates of the US than he does to balance the budget - except for those so STUPID as to not restructure their personal finances to work around ANY so-called Buffet Rule or anything else. Mama's Note: Actually, all of the lies and posturing are pretty much irrelevant because nobody in the world has the authority to steal from anyone, rich or poor. If ordinary people ever manage to figure this out... the jig will be up for sure. Unfortunately, far too many of those ordinary people seem quite content to receive the stolen goods and fail to see how that makes them all poorer in the long run. Theft by government - Bogus regulations US Gov't Unveiling New Burdens on Mortgage Lenders Tuesday (CNSNews.com) Well, we know that this Administration ARE very capable and talented at creating new burdens for businesses - even financial industries. Of course, these aren't going to cost the lenders anything: they will in fact pass on every dime of these burdens' costs to the borrowers - plus another penny or two added on to "cover our increased regulatory expenses." European Collapse - War on Some Drugs Spanish Village Votes on Pot-Growing to Pay Off Debt (CNSNews.com) At least 75 percent must be in favor for the plan to go ahead. If that happens, a plot of land will be leased to an association of marijuana buffs in Barcelona who would grow the plants and pay Rasquera €1.3 million ($1.7 million). Some 40 jobs — growing, harvesting and packaging the pot — would allegedly be created. The payment by the pot-smoking group ABCDA is about equal to the debt owed by this picturesque hamlet that sits at the foot of a mountain range and has a castle that dates back to the 12th century. State capitalism? Spain is in serious economic trouble, getting worse by the day as a failed national government continues to blunder, and this little village at least is thinking outside the box. Wednesday, April 11, 2012 Government science - New religions: global warming Former NASA personnel blast NASA for climate change position (Daily Caller via VisiontoAmerica.org) Nearly 50 former NASA scientists, astronauts and technologists are chastising NASA for its position on man-made climate change. In a March 28 letter addressed to NASA Administrator Charles Bolden, the group of 49 former employees ask NASA and the Goddard Institute for Space Studies to “refrain from including unproven remarks in public releases and websites” because “it is clear that the science is NOT settled.” A few people - all of 49, all retired or at least not employed by NASA - have some courage. Those still in NASA realize who ultimately signs their paychecks. Of course, this is just one of MANY areas in which NASA politicizes science, as it was intended to do. We could talk about manned spaceflight in general, evolution, and propulsion systems, to name just a few. Politics 2012 - Stupid people DC: Investigate private investigators instead of fraudsters (Breitbart.com) The District of Columbia Board of Elections opened an investigation Tuesday after an undercover video posted online showed an activist against voter fraud going into a Washington polling station and beginning the process to vote under the name of U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder. The propaganda war heats up. What too many people fail to understand is the government BENEFITS from voter fraud - not just the currently-incumbent Democrats, but the GOP as well. This has been the case for more than two centuries, with spectacular examples in the 1876, 1912, and 1960 elections. Home front Black on Black Violence (American Vision News) A 2007 special report released by the Bureau of Justice Statistics, reveals that approximately 8,000 — and, in certain years, as many as 9,000 African Americans are murdered annually in the United States. This chilling figure is accompanied by another equally sobering fact, that 93% of these murders are in fact perpetrated by other blacks. The analysis, supported by FBI records, finds that in 2005 alone, for example, African Americans accounted for 49% of all homicide victims in the US — again, almost exclusively at the hands of other African Americans. There are many people who question the accuracy of BJS data, but I see little reason for it to be seriously skewed - unless they are UNDERreporting this data. This data makes the exploding prison population and calls for more and more "hate crime" legislation even more bogus. The point is, this far exceeds the murder statistics for such "violent" groups as those of Celtic ancestry, AmerInds, or "Rednecks" and "Hillbillies." Why? To even suggest that there might be some genetic basis for this is to be most strongly condemned as nothing but racism. Even to try and point to cultural or societal reasons is sure to be condemned as "code-word" racism. Me? I blame the government, of course: starting with the Carpetbagger administrations during the 14 year occupation of the defeated Confederacy, continuing right to the "Civil Rights" legislation of LBJ, and the Pendergast-style political machines of the northern cities, government has demonstrated that its interference in society has serious detrimental impacts on blacks, just as it has on AmerInd people. Home front North Dakota: Drone Lawsuit (Jewish World Review) The tiny town of Lakota, N.D., is quickly becoming a key testing ground for the legality of the use of unmanned drones by law enforcement after one of its residents became the first American citizen to be arrested with the help of a Predator surveillance drone. ... After a 16-hour standoff, the Grand Forks police department SWAT team, armed with a search warrant, used an agreement they've had with Homeland Security for about three years, and called in an unmanned aerial vehicle to pinpoint Brossart's location on the ranch. The SWAT team stormed in and arrested Brossart on charges of terrorizing a sheriff, theft, criminal mischief, and other charges, according to documents. This man had "turned turtle" but had apparently already abused the law and stolen property, then refused to return it. There was no difference that I can see to using a helicopter, as far as technology was concerned. However, the key issue is that it was a DHS drone - and the emotional impact of using a Predator against a US citizen. This article is a good brief analysis. Economics Waste Management's Carl Rush Sees Gold in Trash (Waste Business Journal) While Waste Management CEO David Steiner was speaking with the Wall Street Journal about the future of waste, his lieutenant, Carl Rush spoke to Bloomberg News about the future of waste conversion. Rush, who is senior vice president of Waste Management's Organic Growth unit, estimated the value of waste currently being landfilled by the company to be worth more than $40 billion, if reclaimed or harnessed for energy. He said the company landfills about 82 percent of the 112 million tons of waste it collects. "We don't think the future, long term, is going to be continuing to put everything in the landfill," Rush said. "It's going to be recovering more value from this material. The customers will demand it, the struggle for resources will demand it, and quite honestly, economically, it's the thing we should be doing." The recovery of valuable metals and other materials from trash would be much more feasible and economical IF government had not created 56 or so massive bureaucracies to "protect" us from all the perceived evils and dangers of landfilling. And of course, since burning waste for energy (and at the same time recovering metals from the waste) would emit many potential pollutants (especially that most evil of air pollutants, carbon dioxide) is also virtually outlawed in much of the nation, this use of valuable materials is also virtually impossible. I expect the same thing to happen in regards to catalytic conversion and pyrolysis: turning waste into synthetic oil. Stupid Quote of the Week Global warmism: "It's your money or your life. We are either going to dedicate ourselves to a cleaner, more livable planet and accept the initial investment necessary or we're going to pay a heavier price in terms of loss of human life, damage and costs associated with it." --Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL) arguing that we should all drive hybrid cars to save the planet in response to the recent tornadoes around Dallas, TX. In this quote from last week, notice his words: Dick Durbin even sounds like the name of a highway robber: "Stand and deliver, your money or your life." Thieving national legislators enable thieving executive branch officials and bureaucrats. New religions: Environism and Global Warming Healthy Polar Bear Count Confounds Doomsayers (Toronto Globe and Mail) In the debate regarding global warming and its significant impacts on the world, the population of polar bears has long been a high-profile rallying point for doomsayers. Decrying a significant decrease in the bear population over the last few decades, environmentalists have called for specific public policies that directly protect the bear population and broad laws that curb greenhouse gas emissions, says the Globe and Mail (Canada). Gissing points out that there are about 25,000 polar bears across Canada's Arctic, and that this is likely the highest point the population has ever reached. This thoroughly undermines the arguments of critics who predicted the species' rapid endangerment. Source: Paul Waldie, "Healthy polar bear count confounds doomsayers," Globe and Mail (Canada) It appears that a lot of "libertarians" still are willing to believe government propaganda regarding global warming and environmental issues: here is one more proof that they are sadly deluded. First Citizen WH: It's a 'Gimmick' to Ask Obama, Buffett to Voluntarily Pay More Taxes (CNSNews.com) Of course it is - but it is a telling gimmick that people can understand. And LOOK, billion dollar projects are done by VOLUNTARY payments - even VOLUNTARY donations. Why is it so weird to suggest that if they want a coercive, tyrannical, nanny-state government, that they voluntarily pay for it? And Heaven knows that with his lack of voluntary donations to charities, and the way he uses his expense account to pay for virtually everything his family wants, he could afford to donate 5-10% of this official salary. And according to a friend, Buffett's grandkids certainly aren't going to be lacking Xmas presents if he decides to give an extra 10 or 15% to what is apparently his favorite "charity:" government. Lawless government State Department Misses Statutory Deadline for Delivering Human Rights Report (CNSNews.com) One more example of the Administration ignoring the law, instead of enforcing it. I don't think that they have actually come out and said that this deadline was "unconstitutional" or perhaps "unfair" but they don't need a fig-leaf to just ignore Congress and the law anymore, do they? African Collapse - First Citizen's minions ‘Religion Is Not Driving Extremist Violence’ in Nigeria, Says Obama Official, After Church Bombings (CNSNews.com) Lies, lies, and more lies. Johnny Carson, according to his biography, is an experienced diplomat (Motto: "We lie for our country.") with lots of experience in and familiarity with Africa, and he certainly knows that this is not the truth. Boko Haram is an avowed Islamist organization. Their entire motive and philosophy IS religious and that they have made it clear that anyone but Muslims must be either wiped out in Nigeria or made into dhimmis under Islamic law. But this is what he must parrot as the party line for the Tranzis and the First Citizen. The official position is that religion has (and should have) NO impact on public life or society or government; even while they use religion (especially Islam and too many of the "mainstream Christian" denominations in the US and elsewhere) as another weapon for furthering their cause. Home front Conditions in U.S. Supermax Prison Better Than Most in Europe, European Court of Human Rights Finds (CNSNews.com) Funny conclusion, eh? Especially from that most Tranzi of international organizations, the ECHR. But think about their objectives in doing so: they play off the US versus the Europeans, and do anything that they can to denigrate national institutions. New Religions: Environism EPA Orders $438K in Fines and Mandatory ‘Environmental Projects’ on School Bus Contractor for ‘Excessive Idling’ (CNSNews.com) ...13,900 buses operating in 30 states,” read an EPA press release on Tuesday. The EPA says an agency inspector two years ago spotted buses of the Durham School Services, the second largest school bus transportation contractor in the country, "idling for extended periods of time” in school lots in New England." ... “By reducing the idling time of each bus in its fleet by one hour per day, Durham would reduce its fuel use by 1.25 million gallons per year and avoid emitting 28 million pounds of carbon dioxide per year,” the release stated, adding, “Carbon dioxide is a greenhouse gas that contributes to climate change.” This little business shows the Feds doing exactly what they are suing Arizona for, in reverse: enforcing state laws. There is no EPA regulation, much less a law passed by Congress, that makes "excessive idling" a crime. Durham's real crime is that it is a private business, and so its buses are not owned by the GRTF-schools and therefore exempt from much of the EPA and state environmental agency harassment. Frankly, if Durham could have SAVED around $5 million a year, as a private business, don't you think that they WOULD HAVE? Especially if all it took was $400,000 in "training and awareness" - A cut in expenses 12.5 times the investment? So, there is a LOT more to this story than the EPA wants to admit to: and I suspect that much of what is being said is a lie. Meanwhile, a couple hundred miles to the southwest, EPA has another "victory:" New Religions: Environism EPA Endorses Philly's $2B Plan to Go From Gray to Green (CNSNews.com) Philadelphia's mean streets are becoming "green" streets, as part of a $2-billion, 25-year investment in "potentially harmful rainwater runoff pollution." There will be pie in the sky by and by... The EPA and the corrupt Philadelphia administration will be stealing another $2 billion from taxpayers to accomplish virtually nothing except to make Philadelphia a worse place to live for most of its citizens (the ones not killed before they are born by madmen pretending to be doctors, or gunned down and burned alive by thugs in blue suits). It all sounds good, but knowing a little bit about storm water systems, "green roofs" and the precipitation patterns in the region, and all the rest of the claptrap being pushed, these will work for a few months before they are vandalized or deteriorate due to lack of proper maintenance. Mama's Note: And, in the meantime, it is increasingly "against the law" for ordinary people to actually capture rain water for their own use! You really can't win here . Politics 2012 - First Citizen Obama Sees 2012 Race As ‘Biggest Contrast’ Since Johnson-Goldwater Election (CNSNews.com) If only it WERE! And if only we were all 50 years younger and able to vote differently in 1964. But if Romney IS the GOP candidate, he is another in a long line of bogus conservatives that includes McCain, the Bush's, Dole, Ford, and the rest, who seemingly can offer us little but a "lite" version of the current administration, with fewer buzz-words from the Tranzis. Politics 2012 - First Citizen Obama, in Full Campaign Mode, Blasts Republicans for 'Not Moderating Their Views Even Slightly' (CNSNews.com) How much more "moderate" can 90% of the GOP (and 98% of its candidates) be? Of course, he knows how well this worked in 2008 and 1996 and 1992... Politics 2012 Santorum Suspends Campaign--And Vows to Fight to Defeat Obama (CNSNews.com) Santorum once more proves that he is, at best, a watered-down version of a conservative, since he believes that the nation will be significantly better off having Romney instead of the current resident of 1600 PA. Theft by government - Government-ruined, theft-funded schools Ed Secretary Wants More Money for 'Pre-K'--Dodges Q on Tax Breaks for Stay-at-Home Moms (CNSNews.com) I just read a recent Hillsdale article on the subject, "Do we need a federal department of education?" - admittedly presented by a statist conservative and not a libertarian, but still demonstrating in a few hundred words just how debased and degraded our education system has become, and showing that this situation developed in essentially an inverse ratio to federal involvement (see it at Imprimis January 2012) while reminding us that originally NO level of government had ANYTHING to do with education. Now, with billions of dollars wasted, the evidence is in that GOVERNMENT FAILS at educating ANYONE PK-12 and in universities as well. And I have my serious doubts about such things as military education; we KNOW that they can't teach bureaucrats how to be anything but parasites. Politics 2012 S.C. Gov. Nikki Haley Defends Romney as Pro-Marriage, Pro-Life (CNSNews.com) Personally, he may be - given his faith. But politically? He has proven exactly the opposite. He is almost a poster-child for the Great Wall of separation of church and society. Mama's Note: I'll hold out for someone who is anti-aggression and anti-theft. Of course, those folks don't run for political office. Politics 2012 Wisconsin Governor Fights Recall Attempt With Statewide Campaign Tour (CNSNews.com) Recall attempts used to be about whether or not the incumbent had broken the law, broken his promises, or was just plain a failure: now they are nothing more but special partisan elections to be fought the same way as any election. First Citizen - World wars Obama’s Off-Mic Remarks to Medvedev Confirm His True Goal: Full Nuclear Disarmament, Say National Security Experts (CNSNews.com) No doubt, but will anyone do anything about it? Don't make me laugh. Of course, there won't be "full" disarmament: no doubt we will see some sort of "UN Peace Force" - possibly even with nuclear warheads in orbit to "keep the peace." Islamic wars: Mesopotamian front UN: 613 civilians killed in Iraq in first three months of 2012 (Jakarta Globe [Indonesia]) "Syria's yearlong turmoil could stoke violence in neighboring Iraq, where more than 600 people were killed in religion-related attacks in the first three months of this year, a UN official told the Security Council on Tuesday. ... Kobler said 613 civilians died and 1,835 were injured in 'communal attacks' through March 31, 2012 -- slightly fewer than the same period in 2011." (04/10/12) But apparently an INCREASE over the last quarter of 2011, when the US and NATO still had a lot of troops there, before the major withdrawal. Shucks, I guess that it WASN'T those evil occupation troops doing most of the killing, was it? World wars: East Asian Front Philippines: Warship in standoff with China vessels (Omaha World-Herald) "The Philippines said its largest warship was engaged in a tense standoff with Chinese surveillance vessels Wednesday at a disputed South China Sea shoal, after the ship attempted to arrest Chinese fishermen but was blocked by the surveillance craft. Foreign Secretary Albert Del Rosario summoned Chinese Ambassador Ma Keqing to resolve the dangerous impasse diplomatically." (04/10/12) The island is just an anchor to claim millions of acres of seabed, with vast quantities of oil, gas, and minerals underneath that seabed: long claimed by Vietnam as well as China and the Philippines. The Philippines, with reason, believes that the US and possibly Taiwan and South Korea and Japan will all help save its bacon if the Reds resort to actual violence instead of intimidation, forgetting who has gotten millions of dollars in campaign contributions and who owes a LOT of moola to Peking. Islamic wars: Persian front - Europe's collapse Iran cuts oil exports to Spain (Independent Online [South Africa]) "Iran has cut oil exports to Spain and may halt sales to Germany and Italy, Iran's English-language state television reported on Tuesday, days before Tehran takes part in crucial talks over its nuclear activities. 'Tehran has cut oil supply to Spain after stopping crude export to Greece as part of its counter-sanctions,' Press TV said, citing unidentified sources. ... In January, the European Union announced a total ban on purchasing Iranian crude, to be implemented in July. Member states have since scrambled to find alternative supplies." (04/10/12) I suspect this is called "kicking them when they are down." But Iran may realize that these two countries are such hideous credit risks that they wouldn't get paid anyway. Let someone else be the good Samaritan, right? And still send a message to the West: "We are mad at you, we hate you and all you stand for, and we will retaliate if you keep reacting to how we call you names and hint at evil things we will do to you." And of course, Iran is only anticipating by a few months what the EU will apparently use force to enforce: a ban on buying stuff from Iran. Tyranny - Home Front Pennsylvania ID law problem for Amish, others (The Republic (Columbus, Indiana)) The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation offers ID cards for those with religious objections to being photographed. The Amish and certain sects of the Mennonite community are among those who object to having their photos taken because of their faith. To get a nonphoto ID for religious reasons, applicants must answer a series of 18 questions that delve deeply into their faiths and other personal information. Now that Pennsylvania has passed one of the nation's toughest voter ID laws to prevent voter fraud, the scope of the questions is drawing criticism. The first item on PennDOT's form asks applicants to "describe your religion." It is followed by more questions that devout followers might struggle to answer, and some that inquire about the lives of family members. Thanks to Scott for this one. There is a LOT more to the story than the above article. This struck me right off as being immoral, unconstitutional, tyrannical, and a good many other adjectives - including stupid. The original story has six of the 18 questions: some carefully searching found a total of 11 or 12 questions, which get more and more demanding - exactly the sort of question the Kaitempi would have on their registration forms, actually making the poor sucker trying to get his ID into an informant on their church and family. IF this is really what is going on. Here is the rest of the story: after trying to find this questionnaire on-line on the PennDOT website (which has HUNDREDS of forms), because I really want to see what those last six questions are, I gave up and called their "Customer Service Line" to help me find, or send me, the right form. This man (who shall remain unnamed) told me that they only had one "no-photo" ID form and it wasn't for an ID but only for a driver's license: he directed me to it, and it turned out to be for renewing your license when you are out-of-state (such as on military duty overseas) and can't get the right kind of photo. So their own personnel and website has NOTHING at all about non-photo identification cards for voting or anything else for Amish (or anyone else). Does this even exist, or did someone make it up? The jury is out. Here are the 11-12 questions I found, from the various "news stories." They supposedly have to go on a notarized form (don't know how much space is allowed for each answer) and then are "reviewed" by some nameless bureaucrat, and sometimes they ARE rejected. Looking at this list, I would have a difficult time answering this reasonably accurately, and I am both a very religious and actively-practicing AND knowledgeable member of a religious group. It would take me, I estimate, 9-10 hours to complete just these questions: 1. Describe your religion. 2. How many members are there of your religion? 3. How many congregations? 4. What’s the process by which you came to the religion? 5. What religious practices do you observe? 6. Do other family members hold the same religious beliefs? 7. Are there congregations? If so, how many? (Duplicate of #3) 8. Does it have sacred texts or commandments? If so, please describe or provide them. 9. it have ceremonies or meetings? 10. Describe three significant requirements or prohibitions of your religion. 11. Describe the ways in which your religion affects your daily life. 12. Does anyone else in your family hold your religious beliefs? And many of my answers would have to be estimates. (Yes, #3 and #7 may be duplicated in the lists or may actually be intentionally duplicated as a way to verify and determine accuracy. As a person extremely familiar with hundreds if not thousands of government forms, I've seen this sort of duplicate question a lot.) Mama's Note: What a load of hooy. I've had a "driver's license" for close to 50 years, so it's a little late to worry about that one. But I don't have a religion and I don't vote - so I wouldn't have any reason to ever see the form, if it exists. Thursday, April 12, 2012 Theft by government Study: Tax Day deadly on roads (Arizona Republic) "Death and taxes ... may be more intertwined than Ben Franklin ever imagined: A study found that deadly auto accidents increase on Tax Day. Drivers recklessly racing to the post office to meet the deadline might be one reason. Or it could be that stressing over taxes distracts motorists and contributes to human error, researchers said. They looked at 30 years of data and found 6,783 traffic-related deaths on Tax Day, or 226 per day. ... Drivers were slightly less likely than passengers and pedestrians to be killed." (04/11/12) Mama's Note: Now we know that "tax day" must be banned altogether. I mean, if it saves one life... Nathan: One step at a time, one step at a time. Remember what Shakespeare said, "First we..." At 226 IRS agents in accidents per year, how long would it take? (I know, too long.) First Citizen - Lies and more lies Obama: 'That Wild-Eyed, Socialist, Tax-Hiking Class Warrior Was Ronald Reagan' (CNSNews.com) Of course, to some degree, EVERY President since about 1861, except (possibly) for Cleveland and Harding, has been "socialist" - certainly all were statist. And to Tranzis, Reagan was certainly wild-eyed. But the man is lying about Reagan when using the other terms: he so conveniently forgets that it was during the Reagan years that income tax rates were sliced, and as far as a "class warrior" - show me where? Reagan had his faults, but all this does is prove what a liar this man is. Corruption - Theft by government U.S. Government's Ex-Im Bank Gave 44% of Its Financing to Just 3 Companies (CNSNews.com) The Ex-Im has ALWAYS been more about corporate welfare than anything else. In a corrupt and corrupting administration like this one - making the Bush years look pure in contrast - it will become both more obvious and more focused. If companies like Solyandra can steal a half-billion dollars and more, this deal is a piker. First Citizen's minions - Lies and more lies Eric Holder Praises Left-Wing Activist Al Sharpton, Says Facts, Law Will Guide Trayvon Martin Investigation (CNSNews.com) Does this man have any ability to recognize truth? Much less evil? He is no different than his boss, the First Citizen. Theft by government Tea Party [sic- Movement] Launches Group to Combat IRS (CNSNews.com) If ONLY! I was reminded again (courtesy of a Tanakh-believing Jew: yes, they still DO exist) a few days ago, that in the three-way conversation between the Lord, Samuel, and the people of Israel, the Lord made it clear that taxes levied by kings (or any other government) were inherently evil, and that taxes of 10% in particular were tyrannical and slavery, and attempted to elevate the government above the Lord, who only asked for 10% (and provided no mechanism for forcing people to pay that tithe, even in the era of the Law of Moses). (I do admit that I read this before I learned that Moses was not a Hebrew but rather, a Muslim, who led the Palestinians out of captivity in Egypt; thanks to Louis Farrakhan for educating me on that.) Tyranny SHOULD be resisted, and if necessary, force met with force, defending ourselves, our loved ones (physical and spiritual) and our community against those who would enslave us. First Citizen - Theft by government Obama: ‘Buffett Rule Won’t do Enough to Close the Deficit’ (CNSNews.com) Wow! Someone in the White House can do (and admit that they do) MATH! I heard a discussion, based on various statistics as to how many people in the US MAKE $1 million or more a year: various numbers are given: 22,000, 100,000, and 200,000. Even if there were 200,000 people who make at least $1 million a year, and you took $1 million from each of them: that is $200 billion a year - or less than TWO MONTHS' federal deficit. So I guess he is right! And honestly, even if you seized the fortunes of every person in the financial 1% in the US - every nickel and penny - you couldn't cut the deficit for more than a year or so, at the current rate of spending and theft... East Asian front NK Missile Launch: Clinton Expects ‘Appropriate Action’ From Security Council (CNSNews.com) Cheering if it hits the US or Japan or South Korea? Or the usual, "let the US and Japan and South Korea take care of it?" Or perhaps an invitation to Kim III to speak to the General Assembly? Politics 2012 Hilary Rosen Tweets Ann Romney: 'I Admire You -- But...' (CNSNews.com) I heard and then read her "apology" - and frankly, this "I admire you" garbage is just that, a lie just like the First Citizen, Attorney General, and virtually every other senior Administration official are all so good at spouting. Her interviews since her tweet and "apology" just reveal her for the liar she is. Local tyranny - Racism Mayor Bloomberg Outraged When Asked About New Black Panther Zimmerman Bounty (CNSNews.com) Of course, it took him a few minutes, and I suspect that he has been infected with this "lying is good" disease that DC has: he claimed he'd never heard about it. Home Front - Local tyranny Philly Mayor Doesn’t Worry About Terrorists – Because They ‘Wouldn’t Last 15 Minutes’ in Some City Neighborhoods (CNSNews.com) Maybe true: if the cops didn't burn them out, then the abortionists would conduct "post-birth abortions" on them, while the mob was stealing their weapons (including their suicide vests) and their cars (unless, of course, they paid the right amount of protection). So much for the City of Brotherly Love, right? Home front - Injustice Prosecutors Face Hurdles in Charging Zimmerman With Murder (CNSNews.com) Of course: they must realize that the very "Stand Your Ground" law is on his side, but then, so is normal self-defense. And especially since it is increasingly obvious that they will have a VERY hard time demonstrating that Zimmerman was a racist, given his actions for the past several years. And given the way the media has done everything but build the gallows to hang Zimmerman, they are going to have a hard time finding a jury! Mama's Note: Actually, the "stand your ground" law probably has nothing to do with this particular case. If, as Zimmerman contends, he was on the ground being beaten, he had no option to run or evade the attack. The only thing for a jury to determine is if he was indeed attacked and was in fear of his life. And no, that's not going to be easy for any jury. It should have gone to a grand jury first, of course, and that would likely have sorted out much of this much faster and cleaner. I don't know why that wasn't done, but the answer is probably not good for justice in that part of Florida... for anyone. It's all become a political circus now. Home front Chicago Homicides up 60 Percent in 3 Months (CNSNews.com) This is, of course, a totally unacceptable situation. At this rate of increase, it will be YEARS before Chicago is depopulated, and I don't think the world can stand for that. Where is Al Capone when you need him? (Sarcasm, folks, just sarcasm!) Friday, April 13, 2012 Lies and More Lies - Crash of 2009 US jobless claims unexpectedly rise (Reuters) "New claims for unemployment benefits rose last week to their highest level since January, a development that could raise fears the labor market recovery was stalling after job creation slowed in March. Initial claims for state unemployment benefits increased 13,000 to a seasonally adjusted 380,000, the Labor Department said on Thursday. The prior week's figure was revised up to 367,000 from the previously reported 357,000." (04/12/12) Funny how this didn't show up in Thursday's mainstream media news - but once more, it is clear that the Administration's statistics bear LITTLE resemblance to reality, and that the Crash - or Depression - is far from over, if indeed we are even past the deepest point. Theft by government The Paradox of Taxing the Rich (ECONOMIC POLICIES FOR THE 21st CENTURY) Since 2004, the pre-tax income share of the top 1 percent has been around 20 percent, meaning that the share of income taxes paid by the top 1 percent is about twice as large as their share of income... Fair is fair, right? So exactly HOW can we make this more fair? 3 million people (1 percent) earn 20 percent but pay 40 percent of all income taxes: twice as much as they should if life were FAIR by most rules. Meanwhile, about 50% earn about 20 percent but pay ZERO in income taxes. Tranzi logic says that the 1% must pay MORE: so, how much more? 50%? 60%? Or just double it to 80%? Or should we go after the 1% of the 1%. A recent discussion used several competing statistics: how many people in the US make a million dollars or more a year? 22,000, 100,000 or 200,000? Let us suppose that the FedGov just stole their first $1 million? That would raise as much as $200 billion - which sounds like a lot, except that the federal deficit is currently running about that much EVERY month. Stupid politicians. Stupid bureaucrats. Stupid people - Stupid government War and Presidential Greatness (SOCIAL SCIENCE RESEARCH NETWORK) A new study points to the number of wartime military casualties per capita as the single most significant indicator of popularly perceived presidential greatness... So, the more you kill, the more you are "great." Right. As if we needed ANOTHER proof of how evil government is. New religions: environism - Stupid government/stupid people Payoff for Efficient Cars Takes Years (NEW YORK TIMES ) Gas prices would need to reach $12.50 a gallon and $8.53 a gallon for the plug-in Volt and Leaf, respectively, to make sense purely on financial terms... Clearly, the current resident of 1600 PA is working very hard to make these hybrids "economical." Just from the wrong direction, of course. If government can't steal it from you directly, they steal it from you INdirectly. And speaking of theft: Theft by government Public Opinion on Taxes: 1937 to Today (AMERICAN ENTERPRISE INSTITUTE ) Polling data suggest strongly that the Occupy Wall Street movement had little effect on public perceptions of taxes on the wealthy... Which raises the question of the viability of ANY protests, petitions, or similar actions as far as trying to get "democratic action" to fix things. At the same time, it may be too soon - and of course, the Administration is muddying the waters with their own outlandish lies. Stupid government tricks - Theft by government Nevada Energy Windmill Program Generates Rebates, Little Electricity (LAS VEGAS SUN ) A 2007 Nevada law provides rebates to customers upon the installation of wind turbines; the city of Reno alone received rebates equivalent to $150,000 for turbines that netted the city just $2,800 in energy savings... Nice, huh? "Free money" to pay for worthless pieces of equipment that the city government was probably bribed to buy in the first place. Sounds like a win-win-win for the bureaucrats and more theft from the taxpayers and ratepayers. New religions: environism - Stupid government tricks Shovel Ready in San Fran: $205,075 to ‘Translocate’ One Shrub from Path of Stimulus Project (CNSNews.com) "Your Stimulus Money at Work." I heard quite a bit about this for obvious reasons. The incredible stupidity of this is hard to comment on: this manzanita "in the wild" appears to be the same as those which are cultivated as domestic plants in thousands of front yards - which you can buy for $15.95 at Home Depot. Stupid Tranzis Al Sharpton Equates Trayvon Martin Case With Jesus’ Crucifixion (CNSNews.com) You would think that even his followers might decide this man is stark raving mad. But not as nuts as the next person. Stupid Tranzis D.C. Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton Praises Al Sharpton for ‘Making Social Justice a Reality’ (CNSNews.com) The pot calling the kettle black? (Or is that racist, and demeaning towards pots and kettles?) Of course, she is in good company: Eric Hitler - excuse me, Holder, was praising his wonderful friend Al just a few days ago. First Citizen's minions - Tranzi stupidity Labor Secretary: High Rates of Unemployment Are ‘Ridiculous in This Country’ (CNSNews.com) Labor Secretary Hilda Solis said Thursday that the high rates of unemployment for young people are “ridiculous in this country.” ... In her speech during the second day of the National Action Network convention, hosted by the NAN’s founder and President Rev. Al Sharpton... Like her wonderful friends (and comrades from Selma - 1965, or so she claims) Holder and Holmes, she is preach - uh, speaking at this grand conference. I agree: high unemployment IS ridiculous. But unlike her, I blame government, and especially the last three years of "administration" where the likes of her have lorded it over the nation. What is equally ridiculous is that we have allowed these people to do this to us time and time again. East Asian front Negotiating With Pyongyang a ‘Fool’s Errand,’ Republican Says After Abortive Rocket Launch (CNSNews.com) I couldn't agree more. What I want to know is how soon it will be before Congress realizes that they have (again) been made fools by North Korea. Mama's Note: Not that making fools of congress is all that difficult, but one would think they'd catch on eventually. Home front - American front Mexican Rights Body Urges Action to Overturn Death Sentences of 58 Mexicans in U.S. Prisons (CNSNews.com) Actually, I suspect that Mexicans on death row in American state prisons have both a better life and a longer life than your average Mexican cop, much less a Mexican prisoner or someone who lives in downtown Monterrey or Ciudad Juarez. Free speech - World wars Vietnam Mulls Rules That Would Compel Facebook, Google to Censor Data (CNSNews.com) The question is, what will the free nations do? Support resistance to these rules or assist Hanoi in enforcing the compulsion. I am not surprised that Vietnam fears the freedom of speech and information that Facebook, Google and so many other parts of the Internet offer: every government should fear this. Stupid people tricks Toy Grenade Prompts NYC Office Building Evacuation (CNSNews.com) Right. What is next? Fleeing from a GI Joe doll? Or perhaps a Barbie with a color-coordinated suicide vest? Of course, NYC resigned from being part of the "Home of the Brave" a long time ago. First Citizen Obama Takes Tough Stand Ahead of Americas Summit (France 24) Before leaving Washington, Obama made clear in an interview with the Grupo de Diarios America, an association of leading Latin American newspapers, that he rejects the idea of decriminalizing drugs as proposed by some Central American leaders. On Cuba, he insisted that Havana authorities "have shown no interest in changing their relationship with the United States, nor any willingness to respect the democratic and human rights of the Cuban people. ... Argentina and Britain this month marked 30 years since they went to war over the Falklands, with Argentine President Cristina Kirchner calling British rule over the disputed islands "absurd." Washington has said it will remain neutral and has recommended a negotiated solution. He is clearly pandering for the election; these positions seem to contradict his "principles" - such as they are. Except for the Falklands, where the idea of "sovereignty of the people" is totally betrayed by this position. What is there to negotiate? The population of the Falklands are and want to remain British and on the land which they have lived on for multiple centuries. Argentina (and its people) never owned or lived on the Islands (except for when they tried to steal it once 30 years ago). **************** Your comments and feedback are welcome!
