Libertarian Commentary on The News
By Nathan A. Barton © 2012

H. L. Mencken foresaw long ago brings the very survival of freedom and liberty into question:
“As democracy is perfected, the office of President represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last, and the White House will be occupied by a downright moron.”

Shucks, do ya think we already been there? This guy predicted purty good, huh? Gotta go ‘long with the guy what posted this quote: “Impeach them ALL.” Yeah, now.

Alabama Supreme Court: Overturn Roe V Wade

A stunning ruling from the state Supreme Court in Alabama is suggesting that states simply “reject” the concept of pre-viability abortion-at-will that comes from Roe v. Wade until the U.S. Supreme Court overrules the precedent. In a powerful statement that appears to affirm the concept of the “personhood” movement, through which pro-life advocates seek to have states recognize the unborn as “persons,” a concurrence from Justice Tom Parker said, “Since Roe was decided in 1973, advances in medical and scientific technology have greatly expanded our knowledge of prenatal life.

This is interesting because the concept of state nullification has been in limbo since about the War between the States.  And even more so because the major argument is from science and not law - that in almost 40 years, science has demonstrated that the person in the womb is just that; a person and not a "lump of tissue."

Chief US Military Spook: Iran unlikely to attack anyone
(Russia Today)

Speaking from Washington, DC this week, Defense Intelligence Agency Director Lieutenant General Ronald Burgess said an attack at the hands of Iran is unlikely, unless, of course, the US acts first. Burgess also added that, despite increased sanctions imposed by the US and a build up of American military forces surrounding the country, Iran is unlikely to halt the nuclear program that has become the cause of international concern.

In other words, the US has as much justification for attacking as I would for pulling out my pistol and shooting at some young thug walking down the street and making obscene gestures at my daughter: NONE. And why should Iran give up its program? Tehran knows that it gets less respect and attention from the West than do Pakistan, India, and North Korea – that pathetic excuse for a state of anything human.

Gallup: Santorum Opens Dougle-Digit National Lead Over Romney, 36 to 26

What is going down? All four survivors of this silly reality show say they are in it to the convention. Gingrich says he’s staying and Paul is slowing gaining ground. More and more people are seeing a brokered, old-style convention in which almost anything could happen, from Jeb Bush to Sarah Palin getting nominated – while the Dems and Mainstream Media try to claim that NO action can keep the First Citizen from a triumphant second election and term. There are still nine months to Election Day, and a long time to the GOP convention, so we shall see.

Ron Paul on Social Conservatism: 'I Think It's a Losing Position'

An interesting comment, indeed. And NOT one, at first quick glance, to endear him to the traditional GOP-style conservatives. BUT more and more ARE looking at him and supporting him, because they are slowly realizing that government can NOT enforce social mores and can ONLY harm society by trying to do so. And that the more they try to do so, the more the government damages society and the very traditions and values they support. At the same time as this, Paul is stating clearly that the United States is becoming a fascist state and society: the true meaning of fascism, defined as an alliance between government (or agencies thereof) and business - not just corporations or multinationals, but ANY kind of business, to create and control an essentially socialist state, economy, and society.

Stupid government – Theft by government
Hoax or real program?

I received an e-mail from a friend condemning this supposed government program and citing this website. When I visited the website, it appeared at first to be a hoax, but after further studying it, it is apparently an attempt to deflect criticism of the current resident of 1600 PA Ave. Judge for yourself. I DO know that this USF is used to fund what people on the Rez call “Commod Phones” – phones with limited access that are provided through the BIA or tribal government agencies FREE to people on the Rez, with priority to those that have no landlines (not at all uncommon on many of the larger reservations). This site (if not bogus) implies a MUCH larger segment of the population entitled to free cellular phones.

Massachusetts: Kennedy scion aims at Washington
(Fox News)

The Kennedy family's return to power rests on the shoulders of a 31-year-old lawyer and former Peace Corps volunteer who has never campaigned for public office. Joseph Kennedy III announced Thursday that he is running for Congress, in the Massachusetts district currently represented by retiring Democratic Rep. Barney Frank. In doing so, the grandson of the late Robert F. Kennedy is vying to carry the family mantle back to Washington after the death of Sen. Ted Kennedy in 2009 left a void." [editor's note: Let's review – the honorable members of this family (like his granddaddy & great-uncle?) got murdered, while others only dabbled in politics; only the least of them hung around a while ... - SAT] (02/18/12)

A void in Washington? Wasn’t it nice while it lasted? Any district that elects Barney Frank to represent them is sure to be stupid enough to elect another member of the American Irish Royal Family, no?

Culture wars – Government attack on religion
100% of Catholic Bishops Oppose Obama’s Contraceptive Mandate

A rare action indeed – American bishops have a very narrow range of things on which they can agree – and make ancient English bishops look well-disciplined and all on the same track. But the question is, can this translate into the rebellion that will be necessary?

Mama's Note: No, it will not. Most American Catholics do not feel strongly about this issue, and they will not likely participate in any true rebellion. In fact, I suspect most American Catholics are tickled to have someone else pay for their contraception.

Obama Budget to Subsidize $10-K For Each Electric Car Sold

Nice deal if you can get it – and if the stupid things were really worth $30 or $40 thousand (after the subsidy). And of course, this does NOT include all the other subsidies and research and everything that DC has dished out to the makers. Just imagine if DC had done the same for steam automobiles back in the early 1900s. The stupidity continues.

First Citizen’s minions – Culture wars: homosexual “marriage”
Holder Won't Defend Military Against Suit to Force Recognition of Same-Sex Marriages

Lawless administration indeed! Let us watch more and more military personnel give up and get out. Which is probably a very good thing: their communities and families need them more and more, and probably very quickly.

Stupid cop tricks
Spartanburg Co. deputy accidentally shoots woman in concealed weapon class
(Blue Ridge Now)

The wife of a Spartanburg County sheriff's deputy was accidentally shot Saturday during a concealed weapons permit class instructed by another deputy. The victim, Crystal Smith, was struck with a .22-caliber bullet, Spartanburg Sheriff Chuck Wright said at a news conference. Deputy Calvin “Skip” Smith was showing another student in the course how to properly grip her gun when it discharged, and Crystal, who was standing beside the other student on the firing line, was shot. Wright said the bullet passed through Crystal's arm and entered her side.

Nathan: This DEMANDS a detailed investigation!!! This may not be "accidental" - is this some kind of result of a love-triangle? And this IS Spartanburg - my family left there about 200 years ago because it was such a lousy place to live - even compared to 1810-1820 Texas, which means it was really nasty...

Mama's Note: Because cops are the "only ones" qualified to have a gun....

DOJ's training director shoots his hand

The training director for the Wisconsin Department of Justice is recovering from an accidental self-inflicted gunshot wound to the hand. DOJ spokeswoman Dana Brueck says Tony Barthuly was cleaning his personal handgun Wednesday night at his Fond du Lac home when it went off.

Mama Liberty: I wonder why the guns held by so many of these "only ones" are capable of shooting on their own. Not a single one of mine will fire unless I pull the trigger. Lazy things...

Nathan: Well, YOU ARE smarter than your weapons - which is a BIG advantage. They must be afraid of you.
SUMMARY: These people are supposedly being paid and trained to PROTECT you. IF you need to answer WHY you would prefer to defend yourself, remember these.

Stupid people tricks
Sex-Changing Treatment for Kids: It's on The Rise

A small but growing number of teens and even younger children who think they were born the wrong sex are getting support from parents and from doctors who give them sex-changing treatments, according to reports in the medical journal Pediatrics. … Spack said by some estimates, 1 in 10,000 children have the condition.

It sounds like the Onion – but it is sickeningly true. The problem is not that the children feel this way, but WHY they do and what the increasing collapse of society does to them. But at the same time, just who are we to believe? We have heard wilder tails and claims from politicians for years – things we know to be lies? Is this 1 in 10,000 just a wild and unsupported claim designed to promote their agenda?

First Citizen
Ezra Klein: With a second term go Obama’s accomplishments
(Washington Post)

In his essay on President Obama’s first term, James Fallows dismisses Obama’s conceit that he would prefer to be “a really good one-term” president than a “mediocre” president who served two terms. “The reality,” Fallows writes, “is that our judgment about ‘really good’ and ‘mediocre’ presidents is colored by how long they serve. A failure to win reelection places a ‘one-term loser’ asterisk on even genuine accomplishments. Ask George H. W. Bush, victor in the Gulf War; ask Jimmy Carter, architect of the Camp David agreement.”

We KNOW that the First Citizen has accomplished a LOT – it is just that the things that he accomplished are BAD – even EVIL – and NEED to go away.

Mama's Note: Unfortunately, each and every president, congress, bureau and department of the government - at every level - from the very beginning is the same...  All of their "accomplishments" have been evil and destructive to the lives and liberty of the people they have ruled over.

Stupid government tricks
Returning military members allege job discrimination — by federal government
(Washington Post)

Every year, more than a thousand National Guard, reserve and active-duty troops coming back from Iraq, Afghanistan or other military duties complain of being denied jobs or otherwise being penalized by employers because of their military obligations.

The story goes on to say that Federal and State governments are some of the very worst offenders. This is not new – it dates back to at least the Vietnam era and especially the USS Pueblo incident off the Northeast Korean coast in 1968 or 1969. It shows the hypocrisy of Federal agencies, who believe that the laws do not apply to them, and in their supremacy over all forms of life. It is one reason that even conservatives are starting to listen to Ron Paul’s messages, and it is probably another reason that so MUCH of Ron Paul’s support comes from military members and families.

Mama's Note: Weird that they may be thought too messed up even to become cops. After all, that's what they trained for... to break things and kill people.

Abominable Act – Stupid goverment
Affordable Care Act Tax Will Hurt Patients and Destroy Jobs
(Investor’s Business Daily)

Medicare's chief actuary estimates that the medical devices tax, along with various fees, will push national health care costs higher by $18.2 billion in 2018 and $17.8 billion in 2019...

No, really? This was announced as the likely situation BEFORE the evil bill passed, and frankly, this is one of the MINOR problems with ObummerCare. Pray and work to get it ignored and buried in history.

Mama's Note: What do you mean by "likely?" It was a given.

Politics 2012
Peter Thiel Emerges As Ron Paul's Biggest Super PAC Backer; Bill Gross Next?

While it has been well-documented by now, that even as the campaign of Mitt Romney continues to be funded exclusively by Wall Street legacy firms, that of Ron Paul is largely in the hands of the US military. Yet when it comes to the recently infamous SuperPAC, things have changed. Because as Politico reports, of the roughly $3.4 million total in cash raised by the pro-Paul group Endorse Liberty since its founding on December 20, none other than PayPal cofounder and Clarium Capital chief Peter Thiel has donated $2.6 million.

Thanks to Steve for this one: there is poetic justice to this, I guess, but I still do not like this sort of shenanigans from someone who is supposed to be a libertarian.

News you should use
Bug out bags: A 72 hour lifesaver
(Zero Gov, by Keegan Buppert)

"A Bug Out Bag (BOB) is a bag that can keep you alive for three days. The minimalist BOB must include food, water, a fire starting kit, and a knife. The standard BOB is a bit more sophisticated, with an added trauma kit, water purification tablets, and a fixed blade. To make life easier, the ultimate BOB has an added surgical kit, multi-tool, and more. The purpose of a BOB is to survive a massive disaster. There is a reason that BOBs have been around so long." (02/16/12)

This article is well worth reading AND printing out (don’t recommend that much) and THEN going out and making sure you have it prepared.

Mama's Note: This sounds like a good idea as a car survival kit - to get back home, but if you think you might need to go somewhere else in an emergency, wouldn't it be much wiser to go NOW? Why wait until the roads are clogged with a million other people thinking the same thing? Why not have your home base as the safest place to be in an emergency? And it seems very clear to me that there is no safe place at all in a city.

Evil corporate actions
Microsoft: Google tricks IE, foils privacy settings
(Fox News)

"Google has secretly been bypassing your privacy settings in Internet Explorer, Microsoft claimed Monday afternoon. The startling accusation came in a blog post Monday by Dean Hachamovitch, Microsoft’s corporate vice president for Internet Explorer. On Friday, a Wall Street Journal investigation revealed that the search and advertising giant was bypassing the privacy settings of millions of people using Apple Safari browsers on iPhones and desktop computers." (02/20/12)

Mama's Note: Google is not our friend.

Nathan: Of course, neither is Microsoft – or the courts and such involved in this. Whom are we to believe? Even the Wall Street Journal is not immune to challenge. However, we MUST remember that no large institution – including the mega-corps like MS and Google – can be trusted

Mexican civil war – War on some drugs
Mexico: Zetas gang killed rivals, escaped from prison
(CTV [Canada])

"Officials say members of the hyper-violent Zetas drug cartel stabbed and bludgeoned 44 members of the rival Gulf cartel to death and then staged a mass escape, apparently with the help of prison authorities. The governor of the northern state of Nuevo Leon says the prison's director and three other officials have been fired and are under investigation for purportedly helping in the escape." (02/20/12)

Mama Liberty: Dog eat dog. These Zetas folks are getting to be almost as scary as the CIA...

Nathan: As I recall, most of these Zetas defected from the Mexican government forces. So this is to be expected. They are in essence feral dogs.

Mama Liberty: Indeed... and the US alphabet soup gang dogs just don't seem to have quite as many fleas - yet.

Nathan: Yes, it is important to remember that NONE of these various gangs can be viewed as being on the side of the angels. There is no “the enemy of my enemy is my friend” for the Zetas or any other gang of drug runners in Mexico or the US. And dogs who still run for their master(s) are as much a threat to you and me as those who have turned against their masters – for their masters are evil.

Government-run, tax-funded schools – First Citizen
Obama budget attacks educational choice

Last Monday, President Barack Obama unveiled his budget for 2013 which contains $3.8 trillion in spending – but not a dime of support for the very successful D.C. voucher program. The AFT has long opposed the Opportunity Scholarship Program (the voucher plan’s official name) because it allows low-income students in the District of Columbia to escape the union-controlled dropout factories known as D.C. Public Schools. Since 2004, thousands of students have been given vouchers ranging from $8,000 to $12,000 to attend the private school of their choice.

This is another union payback scheme, both to payback for 2008 support AND to ensure 2012 election support. It shows the DANGER of “voucher programs” – they are still government control of education, with an illusion of freedom. And they are still theft: the government steals the money from taxpayers, skims off its profit, and then makes people jump through hoops to get a little back.

Crash of 2009
Gallup Finds Unemployment Climbing to Nine Percent in February

Of course, these are NOT official government figures – we can’t trust a polling company on this – just on elections.

Mama's Note: Not to mention that the sheer numbers don't tell us much anyway... no matter who's numbers you use. The problem is much larger and worse than simply unemployment, of course.

Calif. Law Requires Companies to Disclose What They’re Doing to Eradicate Slavery and Human Trafficking

Funny, I thought California got rid of slavery in 1848 when the California Republic was formed in seceding from Mexico – and reaffirmed in 1850 when it was admitted to the Union. This explains a lot, doesn’t it?

Protestants Join Catholics in Opposing Contraceptive Mandate

But not very many, it seems, based on the screams of outrage against Catholics. I have friends in both camps – but no foot in either. But it seems that while they may not agree on this particular facet of faith, the basic principle should unite them AGAINST the FedGov. Or any state that tries this.

Mama's Note: Still don't understand why anyone would expect Catholics (or anyone else) to resist the state for this when they seem perfectly happy to allow the state to dictate everything else... Yes, they should care very much, but it is obvious that few do.

Culture wars: promoting homosexuality
African Leaders Reject U.N. Call For Homosexual Equality

This isn’t really about “equality” but “privilege” for a protected class. No, I do NOT believe that homosexuals should be punished or killed, but I do not believe that people should be forced to “affirm” and support and encourage homosexuality. And that is what the UN is really calling for.

Europe’s collapse
The great European Fire Sale
(The Independent (UK))

All over Europe, nations have been looking for a quick, innovative way out of the debt trap. Unfortunately, they've all had the same idea. Tom Bawden explains, while Charlie Cooper anatomises the great European fire sale. This should make us all wake up – imagine when the US has to do this? It happened once before, back in the 1830s and 1840s when a half-dozen states went bankrupt and the FedGov (gasp!! <:o>!) wouldn’t bale them out, and banks and canals and land and more got sold off.

Mama's Note: Actually, until there are no more taxes on land, it wouldn't be a "sale," just a short term lease anyway.

Gas Prices at Record High for This Time of Year

Several point out it isn’t that gas is costing more as much as that the dollar is losing value so rapidly. The First Citizen is attacking and making fun of the GOP for their use of this issue – claiming that they are “happy” over high fuel prices. Thus he attempts to defuse the issue – and we can hope he is not able to do so.

Special Commentary
The implications of the ObamaCare contraceptive mandate – however it is hidden – is a total unraveling of yet another key protection and a large step to not just a tyrannical but a totalitarian government over 325 million Americans.

The argument is that the health of people – women specifically – DEMANDS that contraceptives (and abortion services) be made available without cost, and that all insurance rate-payers contribute to this. The fiction is that it comes out of insurance company funds – but where do those funds come from?

An article already points out the impact on Jews - "Memo to Jews

But let us look at other religions – specifically christians. There are MANY places in which the current AND FUTURE administrations could apply this sort of justification for prohibiting religious practices and giving people a choice between obeying their conscience and becoming outlaws and rebels. This violates, of course, a fundamental right - that human government has NO RIGHT and NO AUTHORITY to force you to do something that violates your conscience. That should, and HAS, translated to a prohibition on ANY government action that would FORCE or “require” any specific act. (Sadly, we have many examples of government being allowed to PREVENT religious actions even if those actions are necessary for a person to worship God (or whom or whatever) in good conscience – but that is another story.)

What kinds of things? Here are some of my ideas:
(1) Prohibition on serving unleavened bread baked according to scriptural tradition – both directly (you can’t bake this and serve it “to the public” without having a food service license) or indirectly (FDA requires certain ingredients to be added to manufactured matzos or other unleavened bread to “protect public health.”).
(2) Prohibition on serving fruit of the vine (grape juice or wine) according to scriptural tradition – similar: requiring adding ingredients or requiring licensing, or perhaps even stating that it has too much sugar?
(3) In fact, it would not be too far a stretch to require that any church which observes communion (“Eucharist” or “Lord’s Supper”) should be forced to have a food service license – for protection of the public, requiring inspections and other actions.
(4) Prohibitions on certain funeral practices – again, as being detrimental to the public health: even mandating cremation (which many religions do have serious objections to) or requiring certain embalming practices.
(5) Forcing those churches who give benevolence to members of their own faith to offer the same to other people – to “prevent discrimination.” In the opposite way, the government could prohibit benevolence in certain circumstances as being discriminatory OR invasive of privacy.
(6) Requiring churches to obtain permits to even meet – in buildings, homes, public areas, etc. for public safety. And then imposing strict conditions: toilets, water, emergency services, fees for first responders, etc.

The list can go on and on – and virtually everyone has been done somewhere, sometime, by some government.

The question that religious people have to ask themselves is WHERE in the Bible are you told that government has these powers that allow anyone from a low-level bureaucratic clerk to the supposed Chief Executive of the land to dictate to you how, when, and under what circumstances you are “allowed” to worship God. And if you allow government to dictate some, where do you draw the line? Especially when it is clear that to government, ALL things are Caesar’s? An example is found in the UK:

The Law Lords (England’s Supreme Court) ruled in 2009 that it was “racist” to determine Jewish status by maternal descent, as opposed to such criteria as belief, observance, and so forth. The ruling responded to a lawsuit by an intermarried couple who sought admission for their child at the Orthodox-led Jewish Free School. The application was rejected because the child was not Jewish by Orthodox criteria, but Britain’s highest court overruled the religious authorities. Britain’s chief rabbi, Lord Jonathan Sacks, declared, “An English court has declared [the religious definition of Jewish status] racist, and since this is an essential element of Jewish law, it is in effect declaring Judaism racist.”

This was, at least partially, overturned. But we can expect more such attempts in the future, in support of “human rights.”

Paul says US slipping into fascism
(Conservative Action Alerts)

Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul slammed America’s system of governance at a rally in Kansas City, saying businesses and government are pushing the country into twenty-first century fascism. But before you start picturing fair-skinned, blue-eyed CEOs and bureaucrats running amok and with their right arms held high, calm down. What the outspoken Texas Republican meant was fascist corporatism – an economic model most prominently seen in Mussolini’s Italy of the 1920s to the 1940s. Fascist economic corporatism involved government and private management of full sectors of the economy – which Paul says is par for the course in today’s America. “We’ve slipped away from a true republic,” Paul told thousands of his supporters at the rally. “Now we’re slipping into a fascist system where it’s a combination of government, big business and authoritarian rule, and the suppression of the individual rights of each and every American citizen.”

I could not find this in other, more reputable or traditional news sites, but have no reason not to believe the story. Paul is preaching the truth – a truth most people REFUSE to admit.

Islamic wars: Mesopotamian front
Iraq[sic]: Violence drops sharply as al Qaeda moves fight to Syria
(Christian Science Monitor)

"The departure of Al Qaeda-affiliated fighters from Iraq to join the rebellion against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in Syria has had one benefit, Iraqi officials say: Violence has dropped in this country, in some areas by as much as 50 percent in just a few months. Iraqi officials declined to provide precise figures for the drop-off or to estimate how many Al Qaeda-affiliated fighters have left the country for Syria. But the impact of the departure, they said, has been especially apparent in Ninewah province ..." (02/21/12)

If true, this makes BOTH sides of the pro/anti-war fuss over the war in Mesopotamia out to be wrong. It HAS been Al Qaeda more than the US or NATO that has caused the killing to go on for so long in Mesopotamia, and the withdrawal of US troops has less to do with ending the war than the withdrawal of Al Qaeda? Is that weird or what?

Mama's Note: Seems clear to me that without the US meddling and invasion in that region for so long, "Al Qaeda" would never have existed - even if it were not created out of whole cloth by the CIA, as has been asserted by many. It has taken on an independent life now, and so naturally seeks for more war to justify it's continuity - as does every coercive organization.

FL: Man pistol whips assailants in Walmart attack
(WHPTV News)

"Two young men shoved a 42-year-old customer to the floor as he reached for a pack of razors near the pharmacy, Orlando police Lt. John Holysz said. Alarmed customers at the store on Semoran Boulevard near Lake Margaret Drive began shrieking, he said. Meanwhile, the younger men punched the older one, Holysz said. But they picked the wrong guy. The older man had a gun in a holster and used it to pistol whip one of his assailants, police said. The younger men ran away, and police are looking for them." (02/14/12)

Mama's Note: Probably just as well he didn't shoot, of course, but a gun makes a lousy club. Might have been just as effective if he'd had a cane. Sounds like the two thugs were unarmed anyway. I would love to have seen the look on their faces when he pulled the gun. :) And I'm sure everyone appreciated the "shrieking" of the silly customers.

Nathan: What astonishes me is that this is an attack INSIDE a Wal-Mart in the middle of the day. Those Wal-Mart managers who disagree with corporate policy about allowing customers to be armed should heed this. Yes, a pistol makes a horrible club, but actually, a pistol – especially an automatic – works better that way than a real club or billystick, because it is able to be used in very close quarters where a club is hard to draw and use well. But I wonder if the would-be victim thought seriously about jamming the muzzle into one or the other’s chest or stomach and pulling the trigger? He would have been justified in doing so.

Mama's Note: Hard to say if he'd be justified to shoot, since we can't know all the details. I'd be concerned about over penetration in that situation, but would not hesitate to shoot if it was really necessary. What I'm wondering is whether or not such attacks are becoming more common, in spite of the reports by government that violent crime is dropping. Can't imagine why I don't really trust their findings... There are serious allegations (and some solid proof) that the various "law enforcement" entities, especially in big cities, are fudging the numbers and downplaying actual violent crimes so they continue to look as if they are effective in preventing it. This, while escalating the "war on drugs" and so forth all the time.

Keystone XL would raise gas prices
(The Nation, by George Zornick)

"A basic Republican attack on President Obama is shaping up for the 2012 election: that the national debt, the unemployment level and gas prices are all way too high. Two of these three issues find a home in the Keystone XL pipeline—the boilerplate Republican argument is that the White House not only killed a project that could provide jobs in construction and maintenance, but also exacerbated higher gas prices by denying the markets more oil. ... Unfortunately, there’s an all-too-typical problem with the Republican line on Keystone: it’s completely unsupported by the facts." (02/21/12)

Mama Liberty: No indication of how this Zornick is qualified to make these statements...

Nathan: Doesn't really matter. Zornick is obviously (at least in THIS article - don't know who his masters are) a shill for the Democrats and the opponents. He "quotes" from "facts" and "quotes" provided by the opponents and which have been answered and debunked time and again. He quotes Boehner (an idiot - if the GOP had any principles or guts they'd call him what he is - a traitor) to use as a strawman and doesn't address the basic fact that ANY additional oil not in Arab or other similar idiot's hands has a massive good impact on prices. He claims it's all global prices and then turns around and uses local circumstances to "prove" his headline. He's an idiot - but too many other idiots will listen to him and too many idiots who tell him to write this are in power.

Often, the accusations made by politicians and liberals reflect more their own beliefs than those of the people being accused. The history of liberals, regardless of their specific affiliation (Democrat, Socialist, National-Socialist, Communist, Progressive, Tranzi, etc.), shows a long-standing hatred and fear on the part of many (not all, to be sure) of people of other races: white for black, black for white, white for oriental, white for AmerInd, etc. Fortunately, the track record of pro-lifers is very much a defense against accusations like this.

Well, so much for Democratic deification of Ronald Reagan. Or civil discourse on the subject. They really have to work hard to come up with things like this. Yeah, this is probably hate speech, too. And no doubt, I’ll be cussed by a “libertarian” or two claiming this is just stating the truth.

Mama's Note: Maybe, but I think most libertarians simply are convinced that the government doesn't have any legitimate involvement either way.

Romney Says Obama Has 'Fought Against Religion'

Well, what Romney is saying is true – but more to the point, what would HE do to end this? You would THINK that a Latter-day Saint would be conservative in a social way, but he isn’t conservative in ANY way. Telling point: why didn’t he oppose the Abominable Act that includes this more than two years ago?

Obama's Consumer-Protection Agency to Probe Banks' Overdraft Fees

This qualifies as “low-hanging fruit” – people hate them, and the banks can always find more ways to suck in revenue. Again, this is another election year tactic trying to win or regain votes.

White House Spin: Obama 'Didn't Turn Down the Keystone Pipeline'

In a barracks lawyer sort of way, technically he did NOT – just as a legislative committee does not vote against a bill – they just postpone further consideration until the 45th day (or whatever) – the day AFTER the legislature adjourns. More lying from the First Citizen’s minions.

Europe’s Collapse
Eurozone Crisis: Expel Greece - a cure worse than the disease
(La Repubblica)

Drive Greece out of the euro, and build a federal Europe behind a protective firewall? Italian columnist Barbara Spinelli warns that this idea, which appears to be gaining ground with a number of European leaders, would not only fail to resolve the crisis but would also put an end to Europe’s common culture. The bell is tolling – the readouts are dropping to zero: it is hard to see how the Euro or the European Union can survive.

Europe’s Collapse
Manolis Glezos, eternal resistance
(El Mundo)

At 89 years of age, he is a fixture at anti-austerity demonstrations. A member of the Greek communist party for 70 years, he has also been a national icon since the day in 1941 when he climbed the Acropolis at night to tear down the Nazi flag. He was 17 or 18 when he did that, and apparently he has not learned anything about the truth of “Communism” versus “National Socialism” or any other form or variant of socialism – what a shame. He actually got his dream: a government which bankrupted its nation in the name of socialism.

It also points out how hypocritical people like him are: this “austerity” is nothing at all like daily life in Greece from 1941 through 1950 (the end of the Communist-inspired insurgency in Greece).

Politics 2012
All 4 GOP Candidates OK With Women in Combat

This should be no surprise, even in conservative candidates, in twenty-first century America: there is nothing inherently conservative about protecting women from combat, any more than there is anything inherently religious or christian about keeping women from combat. It is tradition, it is custom (extending back to many older civilizations) and it is based on military reality going back for millennia. The military arguments are much less now than they were a half-century or more ago, because of technology, but the primary impetus for sending women into combat today is NOT technical nor military, they are purely cultural: part of the total strategy of disrupting sexual roles and the culture and society as a whole. A military force which was still soundly rooted in ethical and moral fundamentals, and understanding and applying the concepts of “duty, honor, country” (country being liberty and freedom) could accept and integrate women in full ground and sea combat, given modern technology. This pitiful shell we have today cannot.

Congress in action – Government attacks on faith
Pelosi: Catholic Church 'Has Not Enforced' Its Teaching on Contraception

She cannot conceive of ANY organization that does not use force. The Roman Catholic Church once used to do that: force their clergy and laity to “do what we say” or else. In that, it was one more way in which they rejected the lordship of Jesus Christ, who allowed His church just two ways to “enforce” his teachings: persuasion and separation: withdrawal of fellowship or what Catholics call excommunication. In this, Pelosi is somewhat right: if the RC Church had followed Jesus’ teachings, SHE and EVERY member of Congress who claims to be Catholic would be excommunicate – withdrawn from and branded as being unfaithful.

Politics 2012
Romney: I 'Absolutely' Did Not Force Catholic Hospitals to Provide Abortion Pills to Rape Victims

All I can say is that we have NO reason to believe him. His waffling and flipping is legendary. The General Authorities in Salt Lake City have been as remiss as the Roman Catholic Church.

Mama's Note: A silly argument for another reason. Romney certainly participated in preventing women from obtaining and using the only truly effective weapon against rape and murder... a gun. The most rational outcome for any threatened rape or murder is the death of the aggressor at the hands of his intended victim. No "pill" needed.

Rep. Pelosi Calls for Prayer on Contraception Mandate

Given her other statements, this is insane. Yes, of course we should pray about this – that the FedGov – specifically the White House – will stop trying to use things like this to steal more rights from more people, while making up bogus “rights” that involve stealing money from taxpayers to give to others. But that is clearly NOT what she was telling her audience at Texas A&M.

Europe’s collapse – Free speech
EU suspends ratification of ACTA treaty, refers issue to court
(Washington Post)

"The European Commission, facing steep opposition, has suspended efforts to ratify a new international anti-counterfeiting agreement -- instead referring it to Europe's highest court to see whether it violates any fundamental EU rights. ... Protests against the agreement were staged earlier this month in several European capitals -- including Berlin, Helsinki, Paris and Vienna -- by critics who say the agreement would stifle free speech and access to information. For the EU to be a party to the treaty, all 27 member states would have to ratify it." (02/22/12)

Ah, they wimped out, didn’t they? Can’t take the heat. But our friends of liberty in Europe know this is only a pause.

Stupid government – War on some drugs
Federal drug thugs target caffeine "lipsticks"

"Food and Drug Administration officials plan to investigate whether a form of caffeine sold in lipstick-shaped containers is safe for consumers. The inventor touts AeroShot as caffeine without the coffee, soda, tea or a pill, but a U.S. lawmaker questions whether it's safe." [editor's note: You probably won't need three guesses to figure out that the idiot pol in question is Il Duce di Brooklyn, Charles Schumer - TLK] (02/22/12)

Nothing is safe from the nannies, like Schumer, a black man who believes in slavery.

Federal Judge Finds ‘Defense of Marriage Act’ Unconstitutional

This makes very little sense – less than most of these rulings, in fact. The First Citizen and his minion (Holder) refused to defend the law – despite campaign commitments. The federal judge appears to have a conflict of interest; the Congress is actually defending the law directly (a rare event), and (of course) we haven’t heard the last.

Mama's Note: The bottom line remains... government, at any level, has no business being involved.

Theft by government
Obama Corporate Tax Reform Still Leaves U.S. at Disadvantage, Business Groups Say

When you look at the information available (and it is very little), it appears to be a joke – playing games with numbers and words to create something which appears to have the primary effect of creating more jobs for lawyers and accountants. If we REALLY wanted to be competitive, we’d eliminate these corporate taxes (and all others) – but simply passing the taxes onto the owners of shares and NOT taxing it twice would be a huge improvement.

Theft by government – First Citizen
Obama: Not Raising Taxes is a Form of Government Spending

I am hardly the only one to point out that this is one proof of his arrogant attitude towards the people of the nation (and world) and his philosophy of government. EVERYTHING WE OWN is the “governments’ (because his god Lincoln stated government was “of the people, by the people, and for the people”?), and anything that they let us keep – even if they never took it from us before, is STILL spending by the government.

GOP Rep.: ‘There are Better Ways to Protect the Health of Women Than by Killing Their Children’

Duh. Excellent point, given the situation. But this is not, despite all the crying, about “women’s health” – it is about what is some sort of perverted sacrament for Tranzis and so-called feminists.

First Citizen – Government attacks on faith
Obama: 'Michelle and I Honor Ash Wednesday'

He is really pushing this religion thing – except it is all eyewash, and with no substance. Just reading this is tough and sickening, as bad as the “Pelosi: pray about it,” routine yesterday. This is exactly the sort of thing that liberals attacked Bush II for doing: claiming and proclaiming his support of religious matters while being hypocritical – I am waiting for the liberal/progressive press to come out against this.

Republican Says Obama Must Boycott OAS Summit If Cuba Is Invited

This makes no sense whatsoever – Bolivia and Venezuela are as much opponents of the US as Cuba is, today. Tradition is no excuse for foreign policy.

An interesting quote:
H. L. Mencken foresaw long ago brings the very survival of freedom and liberty into question:
As democracy is perfected, the office of President represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last, and the White House will be occupied by a downright moron.

I think we are already well past that point.

Taliban's Response to Obama's Apology: 'Kill Them, Beat Them, Take Them as Prisoners'

Again, we predicted this. I can just picture the Taliban leadership nearly passing out from joy on learning of this, and pulling out their standard playbook – knowing how DC – especially the White House – would act. As the next story implies.

Gingrich: 'If Karzai...Doesn't Feel Like Apologizing We Should Say Goodbye and Good Luck'

“It is an outrage that President Obama is the one apologizing to Afghan President Karzai on the same day two American troops were murdered and four others injured by an Afghan soldier. It is Hamid Karzai who owes the American people an apology, not the other way around.” … "And, candidly, if Hamid Karzai, the president of Afghanistan, doesn't feel like apologizing [for two Afghan troops killing two US troops] then we should say good bye and good luck, we don't need to be here risking our lives and wasting our money on somebody who doesn't care."

Wrong reason – right answer. Of course, Karzai knows what the First Citizen will and will not accept, and knows he can push the First Citizen a lot further than this. But Gingrich may be more a prophet than he realizes: this would be a PERFECT opportunity for the First Citizen to unilaterally withdraw immediately – certainly by Election Day – and he will if he thinks he can cozen enough voters as a result.

Algae is good – but it is NOT ready for prime time, and it isn’t going to stave off what he really wants: $5 to $10 gasoline and another steep decline in the economy. Florida: Riot cops break up Nike crowd

ORLANDO, Fla. — More than 100 sheriff's deputies in riot gear broke up an out-of-control crowd waiting outside a mall to buy a limited edition Nike basketball shoe. Authorities say there were no injuries or arrests outside the Florida Mall late Thursday. The crowd began getting unruly as hundreds packed the parking lot, waiting to buy the $220, limited-edition shoe that was timed to be released during the NBA All-Star Game in Orlando.

These examples come few and far between: cops acting as PEACE OFFICERS – NO arrests, just getting people to start behaving politely and rationally. What an AMAZING concept!

Washington State Trooper Dies in Traffic Stop

A Romanian immigrant, Tony Radulescu spent 16 years as a Washington State Patrol trooper, developing the respect of his peers and becoming well-known and popular in his community. The 44-year-old trooper's career was cut short early Thursday when he was gunned down at a traffic stop in Kitsap County…. The 28-year-old suspect, Joshua Jearl Blake, had served time for drugs, assaulting his pregnant girlfriend, and kicking out the window of a police car, among other things, court records show. He was the registered owner of a pickup truck that Radulescu pulled over just before he was shot to death.

To me, the people responsible for this trooper’s death were the people of Washington who allowed this guy to be loose, instead of buried in the State Prison graveyard after he was executed. And for not allowing the trooper to know who he was approaching on that dark highway.

Mama's Note: Seems obvious that this criminal should probably have been shot by a former victim a long time ago, but I don't see any indication that he should have been "executed" by the state. It also seems that traffic stops might not be such a good idea all the time. Given recent history, I know people who say they would never allow another such stop because they've been beaten and robbed by cops before. The cop didn't know who Blake was... but Blake didn't know who the cop was either. Not to justify him or murder, of course, but automatic sainthood for the cop doesn't fit any better.

Obama’s Claim of Increasing Domestic Drilling, Decreasing Foreign Dependence on Oil Not Accurate, Say Energy Analysts

Yes, there are more drilling rigs in the Oil Patch than there have been in four or five years (4 times two years ago, according to one group), but they are drilling for gas more than for oil, and there are many other factors – EVERY ONE of them directly due to government interference. Meanwhile, more and more federal land (sic) gets locked up.

USDA to Help Thousands of Rural Homeowners With New Loan Program

Under the new pilot program, a homeowner could knock three or four percentage points off their mortgage interest rates if they refinance — and they wouldn't have to go through an appraisal, inspection or credit report. On Friday in Orlando, Vilsack will also announce that the USDA is accepting applications from lenders to help finance the construction, acquisition and rehabilitation of affordable multi-family rental housing for rural residents. The USDA also has money available to help low income residents secure affordable rental housing.

There is a phrase for this, that isn’t really applicable: “Throwing away good money after bad.” Of course, the reason it isn’t applicable is because it isn’t “good money” – it is FAKE money, but still creates problems. By the way – those “multi-family rental housing?” We used to call those “migrant worker housing:” six or eight or ten one-room “apartments” with the toilets and sinks in a building off to one side. Before they were migrant worker housing, they were “slave quarters.” The row of shacks or the big shed broken into little cubicles there behind massa’s barns. Just what we need more of.

No group immediately claimed responsibility for the latest attacks, but car bombs are a hallmark of al-Qaida. The Iraqi Interior Ministry blamed al-Qaida insurgents for the violence." (02/23/12)

What is wrong with this nation? Stossel’s news (yes, with commentary) shows one of the major reasons: one person said it is easier to open a business in PAKISTAN than in NYC. Yes, the rest of the country isn’t this bad – yet. (And a few are WORSE.) Are we STUPID? We let these people do this to us, cost us thousands of dollars a year in increased costs and missed opportunities (in addition to taxes and regulatory requirements), and WE DO NOTHING?

Police check Brown phone theft claim

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. — Police are investigating a woman's claim that singer Chris Brown stole her iPhone outside a South Beach nightclub when she tried to take a picture of him. A police incident report released Thursday says Christal Shanae Spann, 24, and her friends spotted Brown and rapper Tyga leaving the Cameo club early Sunday. Spann told police she saw Brown get into a black Bentley, and she used her phone to take a picture of him sitting in the car.

Now, it is okay for COPS to steal phones, but this guy is wrong? I don’t think he should get away with stealing phones – if he doesn’t want pictures taken of him doing stupid things in public, he can either STOP doing stupid things, OR stop going out in public. But cops are JUST as wrong for stealing or “borrowing” cameras and phones.

Mama's Note: I realize that I'm seriously behind the times here, but I'm wondering what in the world anyone would WANT with a picture of this person. In addition, I would not dream of taking pictures of anyone (except maybe cops doing bad things, of course) without their permission, and I definitely resent when others take photos of me without asking. Just another example of the breakdown of society, where courtesy and respect for privacy are almost unknown.

Government-run, tax-funded schools
Washington: 9-year-old held for school shooting

BREMERTON, Wa. – Authorities say the boy brought a .45-caliber handgun he got from his mother's house to an elementary school in Bremerton on Wednesday, and the weapon discharged from inside his backpack just before classes let out, critically injuring Amina Kocer-Bowman…. There have been shootings at schools that involved younger children. In 2000, 6-year-old Kayla Rolland, a Michigan first-grader, was fatally shot by a 6-year-old classmate who brought a gun from home. That boy was not criminally charged; prosecutors said he was too young to be held responsible. Last year, a 6-year-old kindergartner at a Houston elementary school accidentally fired a gun as he was showing it off to friends, injuring three students.

We cannot imagine the horror of this for the teacher and the students, especially given the circumstances of the “negligent discharge” – but whom do we blame? The child, who was never taught the first thing about gun safety (and believe me, eight-year-olds are OLD ENOUGH to have learned what guns are and can do), is not to blame as much as his worthless (divorced) parents and the schools who make pistols an object of awe and forbidden pleasures because even PICTURES are forbidden.
