Stupid government – Local tyranny
Police shut down lemonade stands
(The Gazette.com)

Police in Coralville shut down at least three lemonade stands run by children over RAGBRAI weekend. According to Dustin Krutsinger of Coralville, police shut down his 4-year-old daughter’s stand after just 30 minutes. Krutsinger said the officer told his wife “this isn’t the first time I’ve had to do this.” Krutsinger said his daughter was selling lemonade for 25 cents a glass, and had made less than $5. According to the city of Coralville, 4-year-old Abigail Krutsinger was in violation of a two-day ordinance that required all vendors to have permits when RAGBRAI rolled into town. Josh Schamberger, president of the Iowa City/Coralville Convention and Visitors Bureau, said the ordinance was passed to protect riders from possible health risks. Similar ordinances have been adopted in other host towns for years, he said. Now Schamberger said he fears that the work of 500 volunteers may be forgotten, and lemonade stand shutdowns will be remembered.

As I said, there are a LOT of Lemonade Stories here recently. I’d suggest that the police officer find a profession with better ethics and morals, like working as a Chicago pimp. Same for this Josh Schamberger: maybe he can find a more public-spirit-minded job, like selling radiator grease to little old ladies. And as for this scummy, disgusting little city, well, ...

Barack Obama: Crazy or Con Man?
by Thomas L. Knapp

At some point, with any given politician, we find ourselves entertaining an important question: Does this guy really believe the nonsense he’s talking, or is he just trying to distract us while he fumbles for our wallets?

Frankly, I believe we’re better off dealing with plain vanilla criminals — confidence men out to maximize their take of graft and loot — than with death cultists who really believe their own guff.

Think about it.

Don’t trust sloppy mainstream reporting for gun rights news
by David Codrea

Regular readers are familiar with “Authorized Journalists,” a term I penned to characterize professional reporters, editors, producers and the like who consistently treat gun-related stories with ignorance, bias and deliberate indifference.  If left to these, we would not be having Gunwalker hearings and the 90% lie would be the unchallenged common wisdom.

A good example of journalistic malpractice was published the other day in The Whittier Daily News. “Schiff wants more oversight of ATF,” the headline read, and the story went on to report: (Read the rest here) (Use the back button to return.)

Quartzsite USA: proving corruption is everywhere
By Garry Reed

While libertarians are almost always focused on fighting the big corruption, big scandals and big lies inherent in big government they may be neglecting their own backyards.

Charges of corruption, illegal orders, arbitrary arrests, embezzlement, and abuse of power pitting the mayor, city council, police chief, police officers, and citizens against each other have put the town of Quartzsite AZ, population 3,466, in the national spotlight.
