UAV increasingly aid emergency response stateside
(Emergency Management.com)

Unmanned aircraft are revolutionizing the aerospace industry. No longer solely for military use, UASs have increasing potential for civilian and commercial applications, particularly with regard to emergency response and relief efforts. They can be used for environmental research, law enforcement, border surveillance, search and rescue operations, damage assessment, and recovery efforts following natural disasters. Ideal for situations where it’s too dangerous or difficult to use manned aircraft, unmanned aircraft often cost less and can stay in the air longer — as long as four days without refueling.

UAVs are associated in the minds of many with Predator drones attacking “wedding parties” and “community events” in Pakistan or Afghanistan, but have a lot more potential for peaceful civilian use and defense against government and other threats; as mentioned above.

Mama's Note: As with any other tool, there is potential for both good and evil use. The tool isn't the problem.

Does the Law Matter?
L. Reichard White

The United States (Government) hasn’t been legally at war since September 12, 1945, when the Japanese forces in Southeast Asia surrendered to Allied Commander Louis Mountbatten in Singapore, ending World War II. And that includes the current action in Libya.

That’s right, the Korean “War,” the Vietnam “War,” the first Iraq “War,” the second Iraq “War” (euphemistically named Operation Iraqi Freedom), and the Afghanistan “War” aren’t wars. At least not according to the U.S. Constitution — which document explains how wars are supposed to happen. This way:

From "Strike The Root"
Some Problems With the Farm Analogy
By Paul Bonneau

Recently, STR linked to a video of “The Story of Your Enslavement”. While I largely agree with his view on this, and while I think his exposition is effective in breaking through all the lies we have used to enslaved ourselves, still there are some points about it that bother me.

What Molyneux is using here, is analogy. Analogy is a method of clarification that makes one thing understandable by casting it in terms of something else we already understand. In this case, he is using a farm to describe our past and current political and cultural reality.

It is not only his analogy; we all use the same one. Every time we utter or write the word “sheeple,” for instance, we are using the same analogy. I have used it too, many times.

The Libertarian Standard
The Good In American Culture
By Manuel Lora

Easily 99% of what American libertarians talk about is the demise of the country, with countless daily examples of new regulations, and the devastating results of those regulations. The US is, after all, in what to many appear to be an accelerating rate of decay compared to other countries around the world. The endless complaining and whining of the libertarian is not without merit–”our” federal government has for decades now been a worldwide aggressor. That said, there are a few aspects of American lifestyle that, in my opinion, are worth mentioning. These are things that I think are at least superior to that which exists elsewhere. In making this list I asked for comments by fellow TLS bloggers. Full disclosure: for what it’s worth, personally, my only point of comparison is having lived half of my life in Perú and the other in the USA.

Of course, for each one of the points mentioned below there is some sort of state intervention that makes things more expensive or complicated. Still, there is something to be said about Americanism that is not all negative.

Kent's "Hooligan Libertarian"
Take back your republic?

The company that is producing the flags for me is also making some "Time's Up" T-shirts with the Tea Party motto "Take Back Your Republic" added across the top. I don't really care for that motto very much, but I had an idea.

I will sell those shirts with one "minor" alteration. I will use red fabric paint to cross out "republic" and add "Liberty!"
Time's Up flags available now!

Libertarian News Examiner
TSA banned from Seattle area restaurant?
By Garry Reed

Libertarian News Examiner reader Jason Gonella reported, "There is a story circulating about a restaurant that refuses to serve anyone employed by the TSA. That's a good start."

While it apparently hasn't been picked up by any credible mainstream media outlet (an oxymoron if ever there was one) it is all over the internet at places like The Consumerist and MoxNews.

(Just keep in mind the standing joke, "It's on the internet so it must be true." Translation: caveat emptor.)
