Natural disasters - magnified by human disasters
Haitians in U.S. illegally are given temporary reprieve
Washington Post

The Obama administration will allow 100,000 to 200,000 Haitians living in the United States illegally to stay for 18 months because of Tuesday's earthquake.

Here we have another example of a bad situation made worse by stupid government actions. It would seem that returning these people to Haiti to help in the rebuilding would be a good idea - since unlike many of those who stay in Haiti, these immigrants (illegal or not) seem to be willing to work and apparently have some skills. I know, I am not showing much sympathy, am I? But Haiti has itself created its own hideous mess, with some help from the outside (France, Dominican Republic and the US and UN, being the worst). For more sickening details, see this. Haiti, supposedly the product of a "successful" slave rebellion, today has at least a quarter-million recognized slaves and probably several times that number. Indeed, 85% of the nation appears to be slaves to some degree and live on LESS than $2/day, while the top of the pyramid (as represented by former dictator "Baby Doc") have incomes amounting to more than 30 million dollars per year. Jail Time for French Women who Berate Husbands
By Carey Roberts

Record cold temperatures are beginning to take their toll on average citizens around the world. In bone-chilled France, frustrated housewives have taken to venting their spleens at their husbands -- and for good reason.

For decades, effete French men have indulged themselves with aerosol hair spray for their over-groomed hairpieces, contributing, as we all know, to the thinning of the ozone layer and melting of the polar ice caps.

Now the debonair men are taking the heat. (Read the rest here) [Editor's note: Satire, I think....]

All the Reich Moves
by William Norman Grigg

The formula for an American variant of Fascism includes, but is not limited to, the following:

*A fusion of institutions the constitutional Framers intended to keep separate; abolition or nullification of any residual checks on the power of the central government.

Barack Obama's January 11 executive order creating a "Council of Governors" to help "synchronize" policy regarding foreign and domestic military operations doesn't merely add another redundant layer of bureaucracy to the overgrown Homeland Security apparatus. It represents a critical milestone in the devolution of the American republic into an undisguised Reich.

The Council of Governors will be a bipartisan panel of ten state governors who "meet at the call" of various executive functionaries, including the Secretaries of Defense and Homeland Security, to assist the Supreme Leader in carrying out the "synchronization and integration of State and Federal military activities in the United States," with special emphasis on the role of the National Guard.   Am I 'skating near the legal edge of making threats of violence'?
by David Codrea

To summarize, MSNBC commentator Rachel Maddow said she enjoys shooting, but thinks we should not be "allowed" to take our guns home from the range. And leftist cartoonist and columnist Ted Rall had this to say about armed citizens in public who had conducted themselves peacefully and broken no laws:

“These town hall terrorists could be declared enemy combatants and bundled off to Bagram with the stroke of a pen. If ever there were a reason for suspending civil rights, this is it.”

I characterized Maddow's position as "nothing less than the complete evisceration of the Second Amendment." As for Rall, I had this to say:

Careful, Mr. Rall. You’re talking about testing the ultimate last-resort purpose behind the Second Amendment. Some of us armed Americans take our Bill of Rights seriously and will not go gentle into that good night, bundled or by ourselves. You and your fellow travelers are playing a most dangerous game.

Oath Keepers? I'm still waiting
By Kent McManigal

My concern remains: how many Oath Keepers are still doing unconstitutional things as a part of their "job"?  How many LEOs who have taken the oath are still enforcing traffic "laws", drug "laws", or gun "laws"?  Where are those "laws" explicitly authorized in the Constitution?  How many are helping "arrest" (kidnap) people for violating tax "laws" or are helping other agents of the state steal the houses and other property of these people?  Doesn't "right and wrong" mean more than "Constitutional"?  How many military Oath Keepers are still allowing the government to send them around the globe to occupy other people's territory, and then killing those who fight back?  We thought we were free
By Kevin Wilmeth

That we're already a police state, spiralling headlong into totalitarianism.  That this whole "rule of law" thing just isn't working out so well for us.  That nobody seems to notice how much things are looking a whole lot like pre-WWII Germany.  Or, really cares.  (See, making comparisons like that makes you a racist these days.) In Floyd's words:
...the fact is, almost the entire pre-Nazi judicial system of the German state remained intact and operational throughout Hitler's reign. The "rule of law" carried on.
