MORE GUNS, LESS CRIME IN '09
National Center for Policy Analysis Daily Policy Digest

In a year when they binged on buying guns and ammunition, Americans had less murder, robbery, rape and property crime in 2009, according to an FBI report...

How odd! (Well, not really; I'm being sarcastic.) Not that this shows up on the pages of the WaPo or even the Wall Street Journal. An armed populace is a DANGEROUS populace - for criminals and for would-be tyrants. I wonder if this might be a tiny little factor in the sudden "retirements" of some key Democrats.

Mama's Note: Indeed... The kidnapper, rapist or murderer should be dead at the hands of his intended victim. (Read the rest here)

Since the early days of the Battered Women’s Movement, nearly everything that has come after has been based on feminist principles devised out of thin air. Even today, in the US there is no standard definition of what domestic violence is or is not. Yet thousands of men are incarcerated, families destroyed, and women and children thrown into a permanent condition of life in turmoil because of nothing but the aberrant personal beliefs of a few women a generation ago.

While the feminists of the 20th Century are dying off or retiring, their ugly legacy of opportunism remains. Legions of divorce lawyers, shelter advocates, and organizations providing feminist education all benefit from the multi-billion dollar industry that now forms the basis of society’s approach to partner abuse. A Woman’s Inalienable Right To Murder?
By Gordon E. Finley, Ph.D.

On January 7, 2010 the Associated Press released a story titled “Maine woman avoids prison for killing of husband”.

What is important about this case are not the details -- admittedly unattractive -- but the essential legal principle established by Waldo County Superior Court Justice Jeffrey Hjelm.  Judge Hjelm established the legal precedent that any woman, based on her own internal and unverifiable thoughts and feelings, has the right to murder any man and suffer no legal consequences. In short, women and women alone have the right to be judge, jury, and executioner. (Read the rest here)

Millions Pray for Global Warming as Cold Spell Grips the Planet
By Carey Roberts

For global warming protesters, the week was a total downer. A University of Utah “scream-in” for the failed Copenhagen climate conference had to be iced, thanks to an errant December blizzard. Then faced with historic snowfalls in Europe, bicyclist Thaneite Khandekar cut short his global awareness trek. “There were times when my feet would be frozen,” a dejected Khandekar had to admit.

Meanwhile, newspapers in North America, Europe, and Asia warned readers of the deep freeze that lay ahead. In the United States, over 1,200 new records for cold and snow were set in a single week. (Read the rest here)

ADL engages in stereotyping, bigotry against gun owners
by David Codrea

To play off the words of another notorious gun grabber, that all depends on the meaning of the word "extremist." After all, we've seen patriots, whose only "crime" is to revere their oath to support and defend the Constitution, painted as extreme and lumped in with haters by those who would subvert the right to keep and bear arms.

We're not supposed to have prior restraint on rights in this country, Mr. Foxman. That's what makes us different from all those places refugees like you have fled from. (Read the rest here) (Read the entire article at the source website. Use the back button to return.)

Was St. Louis shooting spree perpetrated in a 'gun free' zone?
By Kurt Hofmann

The forcible citizen disarmament lobby will no doubt seize on the fact that one of the firearms carried by the shooter was, according to news accounts, a so-called "assault weapon" (one report called it an "AK-47"--presumbaly a semi-automatic copy of an AK-47). What the gun haters will certainly not want to talk about is that for one who wishes to kill unarmed victims, pretty much any firearm will make a pretty good "assault weapon."

Another thing to consider is the fact that the accused shooter, Timothy Hendron, would apparently not have fallen under any prohibitions for gun ownership. (Read the rest here) (Read the entire article at the source website. Use the back button to return.)

 Rights are inseparably entangled
By Kent McManigal

Each right you have is inseparably entangled and connected with every other right.  They form a web that is a unit rather than something that can be subject to "picking and choosing".  This is why "liberals" and "conservatives" fail to respect liberty.  They each wish to pick out their favorite rights while denying that others, which they don't like, exist at all or pretending they are not important.  It doesn't work that way.  (Read the rest here) (Read the entire article at the source website. Did I just say that out loud?
By Kevin Wilmeth

It's a dead giveaway that we have become a mature police state, when Master's agents don't even bother trying to hide their abuses of power any more.  "Aw, I guess I used my outside voice again...oh well, no matter..."

Think we're not there already?  Check out The Atlantic's "Email Of The Year".

That said, I am surprised you did not highlight what me and my colleagues agreed was the single most horrifying passage from the Court’s decision. It was the Court’s quotation of something an interrogator said to al-Rabiah during his interrogation. The interrogator told al-Rabiah:

“There is nothing against you. But there is no innocent person here. So, you should confess to something so you can be charged and sentenced and serve your sentence and then go back to your family and country, because you will not leave this place innocent.”

Playing politics with pullets and paychecks
By Garry Reed

Back in the early 1960s, West Germans were eating a lot of imported American chicken. This apparently threatened Germany's poultry producers so their politicians slapped an import tax on the foreign fowl.

What this did, as ever, was to punish large numbers of their own chicken chomping citizens for the benefit of a relatively small number of politically connected roaster raisers. (Read the rest here) (Read the entire article at the source website. Use the back button to return)
