May your new year be filled with peace, joy, prosperity and love. If we cease to strive and hope for these things, the tyrants will truly have won.

Welcome to the Dead Week - that week between Christmas and New Years when you never know who (or what) will answer the phone of a government agency, a military unit, or ... sometimes ... a business.  A week when Congress is busy giving itself gifts from back home in the form of more and more and more campaign contributions and getting pictures taken at all the pork projects they've brought home in the last year.  A week to reflect on the disaster we've made of the first fifty-one weeks of the year. And a week to plan for more freedom, more liberty, in the new year... Although lovers of liberty aren't the only ones planning things.
Hopefully, we will have a really, really quiet week. Freedom does well in quiet times, don't you think so? (Read the rest here)

2009 Award for Political Incorrectness: Calling out the Liberal Lies
By Carey Roberts

That misrepresentation was more than one of the lawmakers in the audience could stomach. “You lie!” Congressman Joe Wilson of South Carolina called out, jabbing the air with his finger, his fervent voice carrying into the four corners of the House chamber.

Rep. Wilson was later forced to apologize. But he did not recant. Within days, his fund-raising operation bulged with an infusion of millions of dollars from around the country. (Read the rest here)

The Marxian Virus in American Thought
 by Towner Phelan

The traditional liberal does not believe that the rights of man depend upon economics. He regards human freedom, individual liberty, and the relation of man to the state as being primarily moral problems, not economic problems. He regards liberty, not as a byproduct of the "horse and buggy age," but as an inalienable human right.

In the Marxian view, all human actions are based on material wants and are determined by economic considerations. History, according to Marxian communism, is a "class struggle" based on economics. In this "class struggle," the workers are exploited by "monopoly capitalism," government is an instrument of oppression by which the dominant social class exploits other classes, laws and the courts are used to uphold the interests of the dominant class and to enslave the working class, capitalism leads to imperialism and war, and salvation can come only through a revolution which will transfer power to the working class. Wizards locker room incident shows 'gun control' inferior to self control
by David Codrea

If we're to believe The New York Post (and why wouldn't we?), Washington D.C.'s draconian gun laws have failed to stop yet another incident of abuse, one that luckily did not end in injury or death:

NBA all-star Gilbert Arenas and his Washington Wizards teammate Javaris Crittenton drew guns on each other in the team's locker room during a Christmas Eve dispute over a gambling debt.

...which is a whole 'nother story in itself.

A resolution suggestion and Happy New Year!
By Kent McManigal

Here is a suggestion for a New Year's Resolution, if you attempt such things.

Write yourself a credo.  After you have done so, you can post it where you see it all the time so that you can memorize it and will be reminded to live by it.  If individual liberty is important to you (and why would you be reading this if it weren't?), make your credo adhere to the principles of liberty.

Here is my credo, just as an example: (Read the rest here) (Read the entire article at the source website. Use the back button to return.)

New Year's resolution: unload that isolationist label
By Garry Reed

Calling libertarians "isolationist" in their foreign policy views is an attempt by the "mainstream" to call libertarians what they're not in an attempt to marginalize them as naive and unrealistic.

The charge comes from the left just as frequently as it does from the right, which is one reason why libertarians refer to the two former mainstream political parties as Republicrats or Demopublicans or similar mashups of their former selves.
