November 16, 2009 ![]() Libertarian Commentary on The News By Nathan A. Barton © 2009 Health Care Panic of 2009 - Congress in
Action
US House approves "health care" bill ABC News "Democrats in the House of Representatives narrowly passed sweeping health care reform [sic] legislation Saturday night, with only one Republican joining in the vote and the minority party nearly unanimous in its opposition. 'Oh what a night!' Speaker Nancy Pelosi proudly proclaimed at a press conference immediately following passage of the health care bill." (11/08/09) I was wrong - they passed it. By only 5 votes (including a lone GOP traitor), but it passed. Apparently enough pro-life Democrats were willing to accept the bogus amendment "preventing" use of government (ie, TAXPAYER/CREDITOR) funds for abortions to tick it over by three mud-sucking votes. I thought that as late as Saturday evening, this would be the second strike for the current administration, but I was wrong. To refer to this as a "corporate welfare scam disguised as health care" - as one libertarian site did, is also wrong and does a serious disservice to all of us trying to fight for freedom. If this were only another corporate welfare bill, it would still be a piece of garbage, but not a critical step towards an ever more enhanced socialism at all levels. It is a new way to steal trillions from taxpayers and the future; it is a tightening of government controls over a sixth of the American economy (STILL the largest in the world by a long shot); it is a hammer to be used by every Tranzi, progressive, environist, nanny-stater for anything they want to destroy a company, a person, or even a local government or politician over; it is one more step to the mob rule that inevitably replaces "democracy" and thus one more step to an incredibly powerful tyranny. Much more than a welfare bill. (Read the rest here) ![]() Traitor, NOT Terrorist By Nathan Barton © 2009 First, no matter what similarities the Fort
Hood Massacre has with
Virginia Tech, Columbine, Luby's, or other incidents in public
"gun-free zones," it is NOT a "public murder spree." As I see it,
the recent leveling of charges of 13 specifications of premeditated
murder is misguided and wrong (and not just because it is not 14
specifications). FYI, a "specification" is the military (UCMJ)
term for what civilians call "counts" or "charges." This was no
more a case of murder than it is a case of murder when a "suicide
bomber" blows himself up to kill a patrol moving through Kabul - or
when a sniper mowed down a squad in Vossenack in the Hertgenwald in
1944. No, it is an act of war.
In other words, Maj. Hasan is not a "terrorist" (except in the strictest sense of the flawed government definition of terrorist - which does not exclude attacks against military targets) - he is a traitor. man who never expected
to live to be 30. He has written a remarkable book about his early
struggles with multiple addictions and rock star fame, wanting only to
share his journey into hell - and out of hell into peaceful, productive
life. There are thousands (millions?) of self help books available, and
every
"method" under the sun to choose from, but rather than preaching or
giving you endless "method," Michael simply shares what happened to him
and how he found his way from certain death to vibrant life.
A User's Manual For The Human Experience sets the foundation with the "only two rules" Do not initiate, or accept, force. Keep your word Yes, it's just about that simple. (Read the rest here) ![]() Abuse Industry Teaches Women to Fear Men, Teaches Men to Fear Women By Carey Roberts The video then claimed domestic violence is the
leading cause of injury
to women. That myth has been debunked by people like professor Richard
Gelles of the University of Pennsylvania who derides such claims
“factoids from nowhere.” (The actual causes of female death are
accidental falls, motor vehicle accidents, and over-exertion.)
And then the coup de grace: “Battered women who kill have longer sentences than serial rapists.”
The source of that outrageous factoid? Well,
nobody seemed to know --
and no one really cared. After all, we’ve got an epidemic of domestic
violence on our hands, so any make-believe statistic will do. (Read

![]() Fort Hood Mystery by Michael Gaddy The facts as presented by the Army and the
media reference the shooting at Fort Hood just don’t compute. While I
routinely dismiss any "facts" disseminated by the Army and the state’s
propaganda wing, sometimes referred to as the mainstream media (MSM),
there are some glaring inconsistencies in what has been reported about
this tragedy.
First is the report the perpetrator was dead and
then hours later the revelation that he was still alive. Exactly how
long does it take to determine if a person is dead or alive? Could it
be no one knew whom the shooter or shooters were and a story had to be
concocted for public consumption? What happened to the two
other "suspects" that were detained? What did they do to qualify as suspects
and more importantly, what information surfaced that led to their
release? One of the suspects reportedly stated he "was with the
shooter." (Read

to Pat Leahy: There is No State, and It Has No Rights
by Alex R. Knight III “I ultimately decided to vote against the
nationwide concealed carry reciprocity amendment because I believe that
the Federal Government should not be dictating local policy to the
states. I would similarly oppose any effort by Congress to limit state
laws authorizing citizens to carry concealed firearms or to enter into
reciprocity agreements with other states. Many states already do a
commendable job in providing reciprocity with their sister states, and
I believe the states are in the best position to make these
determinations. No state is exactly the same and when the Federal
Government forces policy of such a local nature on state governments,
we unduly ignore a state’s right to govern its people.”
I want to stop right there. Let’s go back to those quotation marks I was talking about, and let’s examine just how very big the problem we’re dealing with here is. Whether we’re talking “laws” or “policy,” all we’re talking about are the opinions of politicians backed up by a bunch of bureaucrats’ guns. Nothing more. We’re not talking about gravity, solar radiation or the heat death of the universe. We’re talking about just a bunch of arrogant politicians and their deranged ideas. As for “state,” what is one? Can I touch it, see it, throw a rock at it? In short, it’s nothing but a fictitious concept. An ephemeral nonentity. You might as well be talking about the tooth fairy or the Great Pumpkin. So now let’s plumb the depths of the good senator’s intellect. A great place to start is with that last statement: “…a state’s right to govern its people.” (Read the rest here) (Read the entire article at the source website. Use the back button to return.) National Gun Rights Examiner "If you never read another of my e-mails, if you decide to block everything I send to you in the future as SPAM, if you’re so sick of the stuff I send you want to curse my name, Please, humor me one last time; click on the link below and hear what Judge Andrew Napolitano has to say." This man is a Patriot. [Link] It's infuriating, considering the abuses Napolitano outlines, and then reflecting on how little so many of our countrymen seem to be aware of them, and how little they seem to care. Examiner Some people have claimed to me that libertarianism, anarchism, or "individual sovereignty" (or whatever you prefer to call the philosophy of freedom, responsibility, and non-coercion) is "too simplistic". Normally this is the excuse pulled out when all others have failed. When they say this I immediately realize that they don't have a very good grasp of the way things really work.
Most of the time reality is much simpler than fantasy. The way our Solar System operates, with the orbits of the planets as they fall around the sun, all held together by gravity, is much simpler than the Greeks' ideas of "epicycles" and gods. This is where Occam's razor comes in. The simplest explanation is generally the truth. (Read the rest here) (Read the entire article at the source website. Use the back button to return.)
Anchorage
Libertarian Examiner
By Kevin Wilmeth This "rule of law" thing doesn't seem to be
working out so well for us, does it?
Decent human beings don't need law to be decent, and the indecent are hardly restrained by it. As well, the entire apparatus we have put into place to run the whole "rule of law" show seems to have gone to cancer. Those who "interpret" the law seem to have no interest in applying it rationally. (Read the rest here) (Read the entire article at the source website. Use the back button to return.) Libertarian litigators challenge Dallas sign ban By Garry Reed The Texas Chapter of the Institute for Justice,
a nonprofit libertarian organization based in Washington DC, filed a
federal lawsuit on Tuesday against the city of Dallas' sign ordinance.
The ordinance, according to a Dallas
Morning News article, restricts where and how many signs stores can
post in their front windows, glass doors, and on the building's
façade. (Read
