August 24, 2009 ![]() Libertarian Commentary on The News 16 - 22 August By Nathan A. Barton © 2009 Health Panic of 2009
– First Citizen’s Ministers
Administration appears ready to drop "public option" Anniston Star "Bowing to Republican pressure and an uneasy public, President Barack Obama's administration signaled Sunday it is ready to abandon the idea of giving Americans the option of government-run insurance as part of a new health care system. Facing mounting opposition to the overhaul, administration officials left open the chance for a compromise with Republicans that would include health insurance cooperatives instead of a government-run plan." (08/16/09) No doubt too many people will believe this garbage. But as Mama pointed out last week, we HAVE NO FREE MARKET and NOTHING that the Congress will put together will give us one – which the First Citizen wouldn’t sign anyway. Now, I’m a fan of cooperatives – the cooperative movement is normally a good thing. But there are already cooperatives that do try to provide health care insurance, and there are other cooperatives that could and would provide health care funding and savings – and they are not allowed to do so without even more government regulation than for-profit companies do. Mama's Note: There is only ONE thing government could
do to
clean up this mess - get out of our lives and business altogether. You
know they're not going to do that willingly. In the meantime, all this
other stuff is just smoke and mirrors to distract the people from their
ultimate slavery. (Read

around screaming
the sky is falling have realized that they have quite
successfully spent the last week showing the public that
open carry is legal and safe. Not to mention making the
point that even in the presence of the Anointed Saviour of
the Universe President Barack Obama, we "mere" citizens
retain all our unalienable right. The subtext that there are
lines the government crosses at their peril seems to have
really been driven home pretty firmly, too.
I'd be willing to wager that the number of people
who
realize that open carry is even still legal has gone up
astronomically thanks to their hysteria. MamaLiberty
and a
lot of other folks on the web have worked for years to raise
awareness about open carry, but Chris Matthews
and the other
raving hoplophobes in the lamestream media probably informed
more people in the past week than everything they've managed
to do in the past decade. (Read

Constitution does not Grant the Federal Government
the Authority to Establish a so-called National Health Care Program By Robert Greenslade © Nitwit Press President Obama, in concert with his ass
kissers and boot lickers in
Congress, is preparing to stuff a so-called national health care
program down our throats in spite of the fact that there is no
constitutional basis for the legislation. In response, many
freedom loving Americans are engaging in some good old fashion civil
disobedience and protesting this massive power grab.
Unfortunately, as I stated in: “The
Tea Party Movement Needs a Shield
and Some Tactics,” many of the
protestors are making a huge tactical mistake that opens the door for
them to be attacked by minions of the nanny state.
Stop Debating the Merits and Details of a Usurpation of Power Opponents of the proposed health care plan need
to stop debating the
merits and details of this health care scheme and focus on the core
issue—the Constitution does not grant the federal government the
authority to establish this program within the 50 united States.
Period end of the debate. When the American people do not oppose
federal usurpations of power on constitutional grounds, they validate
the power grab because the debate is reduced to a discussion of the
details and constitutional questions are ignored or become secondary
considerations. (Read

anyone who opposes the concept or actuality of individual liberty is
either evil, stupid, or insane. To point out a single, unfortunately
common example, there are no circumstances in which chaining people
up—enforcing evacuations or curfews, stealing their means of transport
or self-defense, forcing them into camps or "emergency shelters"—is
likelier to get them through a mess than leaving them free to act.
There is no "emergency clause" in the Constitution permitting it to be
set aside, nor is there any exigency that morally justifies suppressing
individual rights.
Everything good that happens in human society is initiated by individuals and accomplished by them. Government can only blunder in, jog their elbows (while they're doing brain surgery), trample through the fresh food and water, and steal everything that isn't nailed down. If you don't believe me, ask any local cop who's ever had to deal with FEMA, or the women in the Third World raped by UN "peacekeeping" personnel. served out his single term after shepherding Idaho from the corrupt and
tyrannical claws of the rulers in DC and their agents throughout the
land, he had quietly retired to his ranch near Sandpoint, ID in the
northern panhandle in Year One of the Free State Alliance (FSA). The
Alliance had expanded to embrace the former states of Idaho, Montana,
Wyoming, Eastern Washington, Nevada and British Columbia joined two
years later by Saskatchewan, Alberta, the Northwest Territories and the
Yukon. The Alaskan Republic maintained very close ties with the FSA.
Utah had gone her own way and established a Mormon theocracy. The West
Coast states formed Pacifica but the Green Coalition which maintained
tight control on the economy caused a brain-drain and economic collapse
that splintered the coalition. (Read

Does Feminism Portend the Rise of a New Master Race? By Carey RobertsBy Carey Roberts Consider the millions of dollars spent for
“women’s health” programs,
even though men die 5 years sooner than women. And ponder the irony of
colleges that sponsor “women’s studies” programs, while the number of
men in higher education continues to dwindle.
So is it far-fetched to countenance the quest for
a new Master Race
based on neo-eugenic feminist ideology? Columnist Jonah Goldberg offers
this terse, if sobering answer in his recent opus: “The white male is
the Jew of liberal fascism.” [Editor's Note: Just one question... how many men vote for the people who think up and impliment such programs? Far too many women do, of course, but they can't do it on their own. Instead of expecting government programs to be "fair" or eliminate the problems, why don't men take personal responsibility for themselves, and their families, and stop supporting government altogether?] (Read the rest here)
![]() Albuquerque Libertarian
Examiner There are risks that go along with seeking power over the lives of others. It is only right that there should be. If you want that power, but are unwilling to face the risks, you should consider getting an honest job instead. Whether you are a judge who wants more "security" for the courthouse, or a congresscritter who doesn't like facing angry voters "back home", or a president who is worried about armed protesters in your vicinity, if you can't stand the heat, stop feeding bodies into the furnace. Heat, and risk, goes with the territory. Carrying a gun is not "a threat" unless you are intending to attack the gun owner. Having a gun with you is not "using force". It may offend you, but you have no right to not be offended. None. I have not heard of any real threats made or attempted. (Read the rest here) (Read the entire article at the source website. unconscionable offense of apprehending an actual criminal.
This is yet another topic that has already come up recently (any more examples and
I'll be tempted to call it "trendy"), but it bears attention--and,
truth be told, it wasn't that long ago that I lived in Colorado.

poppy seeds, Afghan government antinarcotics teams attack fields with
sticks, knocking the flowers to the ground and destroying the crops.
Destruction of the Poppy crop is necessary, according to the U.S. State
Department, to stop Afghanistan's insurgents from profiting from the
opium and heroin made from the poppies. "Also, it is part of winning
the hearts and minds of the population because in some cases they are
intimidated into growing poppies," says a State Department spokescrat.
From Fox News: Crops like wheat, barley, mustard and melons won't grow
where the tough opium poppies grow with little water or fertilizer.
With families in debt and starving, and village economies destroyed,
"...the poverty created by getting rid of opium may be stoking
terrorism." "Of course we're angry at the government," says one farmer.
