Our Right to Self Defense
Montana Gun Law Gets New Attention
Freedom's Phoenix
HELENA, Mont. (AP) - Gov. Brian Schweitzer has signed into law a bill that aims to exempt Montana-made guns from federal regulation. House Bill 246 was sponsored by Republican Rep. Joel Boniek of Livingston. It applies only to guns made and kept in Montana. Its supporters hope it triggers a court case to test the legal basis for federal rules governing gun sales. The measure is 1 of many introduced this year by state lawmakers across the nation that seek to assert state sovereignty. Along with the gun bill, Montana legislators are also considering a resolution that affirms the federal government only has those powers listed in the U.S. Constitution.

The law was actually signed on the 15th or 16th of April, but seems to have missed the attention of a lot of people until now - including yours truly. More than all the "sovereignty resolutions" that are popping up all over the country, this law confronts illegal federal power directly and in a way that helps the people and business of the state.

Mama's Note: I wouldn't get too excited about it right away. I've talked to some of the folks in Montana promoting this, and they admit that it won't go anywhere until it is challenged in Federal court and, probably, goes to the Supreme Court. Anybody really think the supremes will think this is a good idea? Not me. There is good news in all this, however. Several other states are passing the same kind of resolutions and even laws, so with the rejection of the "Real ID," secession talk and other general resistance to Federal tyranny bubbling up in various states, something just might break loose here eventually. Just don't wait for it - don't trust your state to win your freedom. Do whatever you can to get free of tyranny NOW. (Read the rest here)

The Tea Party Movement Needs a Shield and Some Tactics
By Robert Greenslade © Nitwit Press

After my sister returned from a Tea Party rally in her small town on April 15th, she phoned and asked my opinion of the nation wide events. My first response was absolute shock because I never thought nearly one million Americans would rally against government and the reprobates masquerading as public servants. Seeing my fellow citizens with signs demanding constitutional government was even more shocking. At the end of our conversation, she asked what should the Tea Party movement do next to keep the momentum moving forward. I told her it was too early to answer her question because I needed time to see how politicians on the left and their apologists in the media responded to the Tea Party rallies. Now that three weeks have passed and the leftists on the jury returned the insanity verdict I expected, I can answer my sister's question. (Read the rest here)

Love your children? Teach them how to safely handle guns
by David Codrea

A Utah teenager died after apparently shooting himself with a revolver loaded with blanks.

Tucker Thayer, 16, was a sophomore at Deseret Hills High School when he died. Police said he took the gun out of a locked cabinet hours before the play in November and it discharged.

This is a common theme perpetuated by "Authorized Journalists." By using phrases such as "it discharged" or "the gun went off" or "the gun discharged in his hand," human operator responsibility is ignored. Negligence is then presented as an "accident." It may be comforting to some to blame the gun, but denying reality keeps solutions from being explored. Barring the discovery of a defect, the boy must have had his finger on the trigger. He must have pulled it. (Read the rest here) (Read the entire article at the source website. Use the back button to return.)

Armed student saves more than 'just one life'
By Kevin Wilmeth

"If it saves just one life..."

This tired appeal is regularly peddled by those who would use the power of government to forcibly disarm the peaceable. It is used as a red herring, to distract us from the absurd claim that one more law is somehow going to accomplish what the thousands that came before it have not. The peddlers know the claim does not stand on its own, and--not to be deterred by such trifles as a history of nonperformance--they try to push the most sensitive buttons possible to make the sale. You've heard the sequence: (Read the rest here) (Read the entire article at the source website. Use the back button to return.)

The reason the ZAP works
By Kent McManigal

"No human being has the right, under ANY circumstances, to initiate force against another human being, nor to advocate or delegate its initiation." - The Zero Aggression Principle

The reason the Zero Aggression Principle (ZAP) works so well in real life is that it only applies to YOU; it is completely individually personal. It is telling you how you can live a free, self-responsible life, without being a coercive threat to everyone around you. It is removing your excuse to pretend you don't know any better. It isn't telling you how the other person will behave, although you might hope they will act responsibly. It is not dependent upon the actions or cooperation of anyone around you. It doesn't dictate that others act any certain way, or respond to you in any particular way, or even that they respect your rights. The right to keep and bear arguments
By Garry Reed

Since all sovereign individuals already had the right to keep and bear arms by dint of the fact that they were sovereign individuals before those documents were written, and continue to be sovereign individuals after those documents were written, neither a constitution nor a bill of rights, neither a second nor a tenth amendment, nor any other piece of paper, can take away anyone's sovereign rights.

So while most libertarians admire and even revere the Constitution, this whole discussion is essentially moot because libertarianism, the only true freedom philosophy, recognizes that only individuals are or possibly can be sovereign. Not governments, not states, not militias. Those and numberless other entities are composed of individuals. If an individual is not sovereign a group composed of individuals cannot possibly be sovereign. (Read the rest here) (Read the entire article at the source website. Use the back button to return.)

What Keeps Us Safe?
By Mark Thornton

Most people don't realize that dozens of products in their homes — toasters, fire extinguishers, space heaters, televisions, etc. — have been tested by the Underwriters Lab for safety. The Lab also tests items like bulletproof vests, electric blankets, commercial ice-cream machines, and chicken de-beakers, among thousands of other products.

But the Lab isn't an arm of the government. It is privately owned, financed, and operated. No one is compelled by force of law to use its services. It thrives — and makes our lives safer — by the power of its excellent reputation. For that reason, its ideologically driven enemies on the Left despise it. JPFO ALERT: JPFO ANNOUNCES "GOODY GUNS" FOR KIDS

More from David Codrea:
Do you have friends or family who aren't quite sure about this Second Amendment business? Of course you do, we all do. My friend Aaron Zelman at Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership has produced a wonderful video that is one of the best presentations on the right to keep and bear arms I've come across, and I've come across my share. You can read my review here.

But more importantly, watch it yourself--it's a free download. Then go out and share this great educational tool with those close to you. Let's all help spread the word.
