Culture wars-abortion:
Sen. Bob Casey Opposes Freedom of Choice Act, But Won't Say If He'd Support Filibuster
CNSNews.com
When asked Friday if he would support a filibuster of the Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA) if the bill is introduced in the U.S. Senate, Sen. Bob Casey (D-Pa.) would not say yes or no. Casey said he does not support the Freedom of Choice Act, which would lift virtually all restrictions on abortion nationwide, and which President-elect Barack Obama promised Planned Parenthood he would sign into law.

So, blood is thicker than water? Or is it the other way around? Mr. Casey seems to be more concerned about loyalty to his party than to morality or principle.

Mama's Note: It's really amazing if you think about it carefully. As a woman, I'd have a "choice" to murder my unborn child and few would even question it. I don't, however, have much choice in how or where I defend myself from a criminal attack, the herbs and medicines I might wish to use or refuse, how and where I may travel or what I may take with me if I manage to get past the ATF goons set to make that as difficult as possible. I can't even choose to build on or use my own property without permission from some government. I cannot choose privacy or security from intrusive government officials in my home or business, regardless of how well I obey the law.

I'm all for free choice. Just why is it that the murder of a helpless child is one of the few free choices I am allowed to make? (Read the rest here)

More Gun Control is Looming… A Call To Action
By Colonel Dan

They’ll simply use a crisis to initiate more gun control and sell it to America as necessary in order to deal with the emergency. Don’t believe it? Remember how the local government in New Orleans used Hurricane Katrina as the excuse to confiscate guns! Other countries used random shootings to implement new restrictions and even confiscation—it can happen on almost any pretext.

How do we prevent it? Forceful, uncompromising resolve in large coordinated numbers focused against those in power. “We the People” must stand united and coordinated in our efforts to retain this unalienable right or it will be history. As I’ve written before, the NRA, GOA, SAF and major gun manufacturers must combine their efforts now and vow not to give an inch. On their part, Gun controllers would much rather see those opposed to such measures going it alone in protest than as a combined and well synchronized group. Individuals or even groups can easily be defeated piecemeal but a strongly united force that shows real grit is totally different.

Gun organizations and gun makers should be strongly encouraged to merge their resources and efforts in this cause now and initiate a coordinated attack to sustain our rights. Notice I used the word “attack” not “defense” because a spirited, well planned and coordinated offense of extreme pressure is exactly what it will take. (Read the rest here)

There Is a "New" Declaration of Independence, Mr. President
By Robert Greenslade © Nitwit Press

Before departing Philadelphia in his spiffy blue railcar bound for Washington D.C. and his inauguration as the next President of the 50 United States of America, Barack Obama, in a speech to the dumb masses who braved the freezing cold caused by global warming, proclaimed that America needs "a new Declaration of Independence, not just in our nation, but in our own lives, from ideology and small thinking, prejudice and bigotry."

Leave it to a left leaning liberal to distort one of the founding documents and attempt to transform it into a touchy-feely make nice social document. The Declaration of Independence was a repudiation of oppressive government, Mr. Obama, and had absolutely nothing to do with so-called "small thinking, prejudice and bigotry." (Read the rest here)

The Gathering Storm
By Mike Gaddy

Critical decisions, based purely on emotions, at the expense of reason, are at the very least, dangerous in the extreme. The emotional hysteria involving the coronation of our new president is frightening indeed and should be seen by those who truly believe in the Bill of Rights, especially the Second Amendment (2A), as a gathering storm. This type of intense worship and adulation for a statist leader has not been witnessed since the 1930s in Europe.

The deck is stacked against liberty and personal freedom: the President is anti-gun, the Vice-President is anti-gun, the Speaker of the House of Representatives is anti-gun, the Senate Majority leader is anti-gun, the Attorney General is anti-gun, as is the majority of congress. Closing the Bill of Rights loophole
by David Codrea - Gun Rights Examiner

On Tuesday, we opened a discussion on President Obama's "urban policy" on guns, specifically his goal of repealing the Tiahrt Amendment. Yesterday we dissected his goals further, and saw how federal laws declaring children and criminals ineligible. (Read the rest here) (Read the entire article at the source website. The best kept secrets of the anti-violence movement, Part V: What does it ask of you?
by John Longenecker

This week, Virginia Tech saw another brutal killing, and without a gun. The interesting thing about knives is that they are silent and they do not run out of ammunition. Witnesses did nothing. The campus alert system announced the incident long after it was a completed act, taking fifteen minutes to complete the student body list of cell-phone recipients.

One of the best kept secrets in the anti-violence movement is to tone down - obfuscate - details of the incident. It takes a little curiosity and a little searching to discover how brutal this killing was on campus, a gun free-zone. Some reports say that the victim was stabbed. Others more graphically describe a complete decapitation.. In a gun free zone. The theory is that if you make it illegal for the honest to be armed, the thugs will go along with it. Preying at the Church of Green
by Garry Reed, Dallas Libertarian Examiner

This is a missive from a layman to his spiritual leader, written on 100% recycled bathroom tissue using biodegradable organic soy ink. Some may think this is a sacrilegious satire. Others will claim that it is too painfully true to be heresy. Each reader must judge for oneself.

My Dearest Mongreenior Organicus,

I must confess that, as a mere layman, I find it difficult to divine exactly what revelation of Higher Power is now sanctified by the glorious New Reformed World Church of Green.

According to the Testament of Gaia, all fossil fuels are evil. Oil is categorically evil. Natural gas is plentiful, cheap and nonpolluting but still evil. Coal, even gasified and clean, is evil. Nuclear is not only evil but terrifying and satanic. (Read the rest here) (Read the entire article at the source website. Use the back button to return.)

The Peaceful Transfer of Violent Power
by Sheldon Richman

At the risk of raining on the parade, I suggest that the inaugural festivities are not what they appear. Barack Obama says the pomp and circumstance are not about him but are a celebration of democracy. “For the forty-third time, we will execute the peaceful transfer of power from one president to the next,” he said.

He’s right, but not quite as he meant it. The peaceful transition from the Bush to the Obama regime is indeed the occasion, but let’s focus on exactly what is being transferred. Despite the oratory about hope, change, and renewal, government — as someone, perhaps George Washington, said — “is not reason; it is not eloquence; it is force.” If that is right — and I contend it is — then in the inauguration we have the irony of a peaceful transfer of something that is anything but peaceful: the legal power to use physical force. This is something to celebrate? (Read the rest here) (Read the entire article at the source website. Use the back button to return.)

The Obama Stimulus Plan Won’t Work
By Dominick T. Armentano

This may seem harsh but the ultimate cure for a recession is recession. Economic booms malinvest labor and capital and recessions are necessary to clean out these malinvestments. Declining prices allow consumers to more easily purchase products (homes, autos) in excess supply; inventories are reduced and supply and demand are brought into balance. And declining profits weed out business organizations and managers that have invested poorly during the boom; bankruptcy allows resources to flow to more profitable areas of the economy. A sustainable recovery is now possible.

It should be obvious that random bailouts can short-circuit the recovery process by propping up poorly performing companies and slowing resource reallocation. With tens of billions in lost profits, General Motors and Chrysler have demonstrated vast inefficiency; yet taxpayer bailouts will preserve their poor management and high-cost union jobs. Worse, other more efficient automobile suppliers will lose sales to Detroit’s dinosaurs and may themselves require subsidies. It just never ends. Some Costs of the Great War: Nationalizing Private Life
by T. Hunt Tooley

After all is said and done, perhaps the war did make the world safe for democracy. Indeed, Randolph Bourne, famous for observing that war is the health of the state, might have gone further: war is not only the health of the state, but the health of democracy too. There is hardly any aspect of war that is unwelcome to the modern collectivist-democratic state. War justifies every desired measure for the expansion of state power; it necessitates the removal of all intermediaries among or between the state and individuals, families, or other natural human units. War exalts the collective and tends to kill, maim, humiliate, or corrupt the individual. War lends an air of sacralization to the modern positivist, humanist civic religion. Our war-related national holidays represent high holy days, except that the sacrifice extolled is the sacrifice of individuals in the service of the state (or of "freedom" or whatever buzzword the state happens to be using as a synonym for its powers). Hence, from this perspective, the costs of war to individuals are transformed into clear profits for the state. (Read the rest here) (Read the entire article at the source website. On "Private Tyrannies"
by Ben O'Neill

If you have ever read much of the political philosophy and commentary of renowned anarchosyndicalist intellectual Noam Chomsky, then you are probably familiar with his view that large private business organizations are "private tyrannies" — oversized and antidemocratic institutions that function according to that most hated of organizational principles, the hierarchy! According to Chomsky,

As state capitalism developed into the modern era, economic, political and ideological systems have increasingly been taken over by vast institutions of private tyranny that are about as close to the totalitarian ideal as any that humans have so far constructed.[1] (Read the rest here) (Read the entire article at the source website.
