22, 2008 As the calendar pages drift off in wintry winds, the coming of the "Messiah" (the Massa-in-chief) approaches ever closer. We are now about a month away from the new tyranny - whether it is based on Lincoln's or FDR's tyranny, it will not be pleasant. Meanwhile, the economy continues to spin downward - in more and more parts of the country. However, several people are predicting (and claiming) that what we are in right now is nothing but the Gust Front of the approaching economic storm, and that in the first part of 2009, we will have a sudden, almost "miraculous" recovery, with demand swelling, prices exploding, and the stock market climbing to 12,000 or better - until the REAL economic storm hits later in 2009, or even the beginning of 2010, when the REAL long-term panic will hit - which some people claim will last a decade, just as the one in the 1930s and 1940s did: a market collapse to 4,000 or less, unemployment of 15-20%, and economic and political catastrophe. The new Massa-in-Chief will be praised for the first few months of his administration, as he shoots every bullet available (philosophically and legally, if unconstitutionally) to him and the FedGov; then when the real front hits, there will be nothing left (at least nothing that the 545 in DC are going to use) to fight the real fight. To say nothing of that in the rest of the world: politically and militarily, it could be far, far worse than World War Two, these people say. Well, let us continue to discuss this (Mama Liberty and I invite your your feedback!) in the next few months, but get ready. Be prepared. (Read the rest here)
They
Hate Our Guns? Right now it all seems pretty hopeless since Obama and his incredible cast of control freaks are about to claim even more power over us than any king who ever sat on the face of the earth. Unfortunately, most people - including the NRA - seem to fail to understand the real danger and the actual problem. These people: most politicians and bureaucrats, along with most modern academics and media figures, do not just hate our guns. They hate people, all of us! They especially despise and hate those who do not swallow their lies of "reasonable control" or "the common good;" who are not willing to be controlled and robbed for any reason. They hate and fear people - especially free people! If all the guns on the planet magically vanished, they'd still be terrified of us because their reason for living is control and they have clear plans to control every knife, screwdriver and ice pick on the planet if that's what it takes to control the people. Articles At the ripe-old age of nineteen, I failed to understand the paradox that was Vietnam. I believed for years this failure exposed a serious weakness in my cognitive abilities; after all, like my predecessors who had worn the same uniform, I was fighting for the freedom of all Americans, wasnt I? For many more years I routinely swallowed my daily hallucinogenic: "everything will be OK just as soon as we elect the right people." My blind devotion to the state would not allow me to entertain any alternative thoughts. Then it happened: I was surfing through the Internet one day pursuing my love of history and somehow found myself looking at a website called, LewRockwell.com. As best I can remember, my fondness of all things Southern led me to an article there by Professor Thomas DiLorenzo. My grandfather had taught me since early childhood that Abraham Lincoln was a tyrant; Professor DiLorenzo gave me meat I could bite into and long sought after evidence my grandfather had been correct. Geographic TV Takes Aim At Your Guns National Geographic Channel ran a show last night entitled, "Gun In America." According to the program, there are millions of misguided gun owners across the nation. Why? Because your guns are supposedly more likely to harm you than to help you in an emergency. "As a society, we're totally out of control with weapons," said one Philadelphia cop who was interviewed during the show. "You need to limit access that people have to these type of firearms." That was the basic thrust of the program. National Geographic recited the usual worn-out factoids that are peddled by the Brady Campaign. It only cited anti-gun cops. And for every person who was filmed stating he or she believed in a right to own firearms for self-defense, the program would cite "facts" to prove that such a hope was misplaced. Gun owners should let the President and CEO of National Geographic know that the channel should stick to showing pictures of kangaroos and foliage -- images that we normally attribute to National Geographic's magazine -- and keep his personal, anti-gun views to his private conversations around the Christmas dinner table. Consent and the Utopian Vision - or The relative invisibility of Libertarianism after 40 years of backbreaking, heartbreaking labor, has little to do with any lack of money, ideas, personnel, or anything else Libertarians may occasionally whine about. It isn't the fault of an evil northeastern Liberal conspiracy. Nor, as the more timid among us often recommend, is it reason to tone down Libertarian rhetoric, to soften principle or its expression, to make it more conservative or "practical" in approach. All of that has been tried, again and again. What Libertarians lack, in their hearts and minds, what they fail to communicate to others, is a vision of the new civilization they intend creating. It may be sufficient motivation, for Libertarians, that America today, politically, economically, socially, is repulsive. It may be enough, for Libertarians, that what they propose is morally right. It is not enough for others. Most people require a fairly concrete picture of the future which will motivate them to learn what Libertarians mean by "right" and "wrong", and inspire them to work toward its fulfillment. 'An
armed society is a polite society' None of which prevented the Mayor from claiming, without offering any evidence, that most violent crimes in Troupes ward are committed with guns stolen from law-abiding citizens. In other words, its the victims fault. But if hizzoners claim is true, the answer is for law-abiding citizens to band together and teach one another gun-proficiency, like how to keep their guns on their person at all times, how to point and shoot quickly and accurately, how to spot potential thugs and be ready, physically and mentally, to protect themselves. If law-abiding citizens are having their guns stolen they just havent been trained properly. (Read the rest here) (Read the entire article at the source website. Use the back button to return.)
Hillary
Clinton, Feminist-at-Large In the current scene, Mrs. Clinton is nominated to serve as the Secretary of State. You wonder, exactly what qualifies her to serve as Americas ambassador to the world? During Hillarys eight years in the White House, she didnt attend any National Security Council meetings. She didnt receive the presidents daily briefings. She didnt even have a security clearance.
These facts prompted candidate Barack Obama to jeer, What exactly is [her] foreign policy expertise? Incoming White House counsel Greg Craig proffered this blunt response: There is no reason to believe she was a key player in foreign policy at any time during the Clinton Administration. The
Future of Freedom Foundation That there will be a huge stimulus package in the early days of the Obama administration is a certainty. Nearly everyone thinks the government must do something drastic to, using President-elect Obamas word, jolt the economy into recovery. That something is deficit spending on infrastructure. But its not as simple as it sounds. A big debate is shaping up over whether the program should concentrate on big, transformative projects or boring bridge repairs and pothole filling. Either way, it is taken for granted that deficit spending will stimulate a sustainable recovery. But it wont. A real recovery requires real savings and investment to correct for years of government-induced waste. Government spending, however, displaces savings and investment. Whether the government borrows, taxes, or creates money through the Federal Reserve, real wealth will be commandeered by bureaucrats. Jobs thus created in the parasitic sector will mean fewer jobs created in the productive sector. That can hardly be a recipe for recovery. The
Independent Institute Despite the warnings, Latin Americans were largely unaware of the implications of the U.S. financial meltdown and the recession until only a few weeks ago. They believed that the times when the U.S. sneezed and the region would catch a cold were gone. What an illusion. A lot of what has helped Latin Americas economies in recent yearsaccess to capital markets, foreign investments, remittances from emigrants, the price of natural resourcesdepends on the health of the global marketplace. Any time the U.S. stock markets lose $30 trillion in a few months10 times Latin Americas gross domestic productthe ripple effects will be felt south of the Rio Grande. Rather than engage in reform, slash spending and put away some rainy-day money, Latin American governments preserved the status quo and boosted public expenditures by 10 percent annually in matters mostly unrelated to infrastructure, creating alarming new commitments. Except for Chile, which managed the revenue from its copper sales prudently, many of the nations that produce oil (Mexico, Venezuela, Ecuador), minerals (Brazil, Peru) or agricultural commodities (Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay) went on a binge. They will now find themselves starved for cash at a time when they are pledging new forms of government profligacy in the face of the global recession. The temptation to fund it via inflation will be irresistible. (Read the rest here) (Read the entire article at the source website. Use the back button to return.)
From The Ludwig von Mises Institute If you write about and follow politics enough, you eventually realized that most evil in this world is brought about by those seeking a lesser of two evils. And those who assist in this very much resent it when you point out that they are promoting evil. My inbox has been inundated in recent days with people who think along these lines. Consider the Detroit bailout for example. Now, this idea is preposterous on the face of it. One of the glorious aspects of this recession is that it will finally deal the crippling blow to this industry, which has been a decades-long drag on American productivity. Wicked unions have thoroughly looted the capital stock of these companies, and the workers themselves are wholly focused on their own well-being rather than that of the company and the consumer.
