Libertarian Commentary on The News 30 November - 06 December, 2008
By Nathan A. Barton © 2008

Yes, I've read a lot of the commentaries, and I've seen how the rest of the world is fawning over the US for its "redemption" and its "repentence" in electing a "black man" to the Presidency, and how the world is glad that the United States is again taking its place in leading the world to a bright new glorious future. I'm not convinced. This week's stories will show that is not what we can expect, and indeed, that if we are to keep the torch of liberty alive in this century, we must be prepared to make a stand against our "own" government and the rest of the world. A stand FOR liberty and against government, whether it is "paternal" or "benevolent" or "annointed" or "socialist" or whatever.

Monday (D-51):
Economic news dominated the weekend, but there were some indications that major problems are developing right next door, just in time for a new Massa to take charge (?) of things.

Trickle-Down Piracy
By Robert Greenslade © Nitwit Press

Barack Obama, in a Good Morning America interview several weeks before the November 4th election said: "The American people understand the way you grow the economy is from the bottom up." In view of the fact that a recent civics test revealed that 40 percent of college graduates did not know corporate profits equal revenues minus expenses, I seriously doubt the average American has a clue when it comes to economics.

While Obama's campaign slogan may have fooled the dumb masses and his Obamabots, it did not fool radio talk show host Michael Savage who instantly labeled Obama's economic policy for what it is - "trickle-up poverty. (Read the rest here)

Swat Team Conducts Food Raid In Rural Ohio
By-John-Loeffler

On Monday, December 1, a SWAT team with semi-automatic rifles entered the private home of the Stowers family in LaGrange, Ohio, herded the family onto the couches in the living room, and kept guns trained on parents, children, infants and toddlers, from approximately 11 AM to 8 PM. The team was aggressive and belligerent. The children were quite traumatized. At some point, the “bad cop” SWAT team was relieved by another team, a “good cop” team that tried to befriend the family. The Stowers family has run a very large, well-known food cooperative called Manna Storehouse. (Read the rest here) (Read the entire article at the source website. Use the back button to return.)

H-S Precision Stands By Their Mother-Killer
By Carl Bussjaeger

As you already know, H-S Precision publicized an endorsement from notoriously despised and incompetent FBI sniper Lon Horiuchi. Or, if you didn't know, go click the link and read it now.

It isn't very often that a once-respected firearms company decides to crawl into bed with a scumbag, who by his own admission repeatedly fired on targets, missed, and thereby killed an unarmed woman holding her baby in her arms. Said scumbag avoided prison at the least by getting the government to give him "sovereign immunity" for his crimes. (Read the rest here) (Read the entire article at the source website. The Lincoln Gambit
by William Norman Grigg

While it cares little for customary piety, our ruling Nomenklatura displays the intolerant fervor of Paradise-bound Jihadis in defending the sanctity of the Almighty State and its avatars. In that pantheon there is none holier than the martyred founder of the Second (or People's) American Republic – Abraham the Almighty, whose sacred likeness sits in stoic majesty in the Imperial Capital's most celebrated pagan cathedral.

Despite the fact that the candidate had a background barren of worthwhile accomplishments and a political vita that could be inscribed on the note inside a fortune cookie, Barack Obama's followers – most likely in the thrall of a campaign-generated meme – routinely compared him to Jesus. “Black Bush” Barack? - A False Flag Frankenstein?
By Captain Eric H. May - Military-Political Editor
With Major William B. Fox and Dr. James H. Fetzer

More and more Americans are worried that Barack Hussein Obama’s promises for change are not only pure fantasy, but worse yet, that he may be even more dangerous than Bush.  He is certainly smarter and more sophisticated, and there are some troubling signs that he may serve the same corrupt power elite. More 'gun control'? Oy vey!
by David Codrea

One of the reasons I use the term "only ones" is to point out how a different standard can apply in terms of both privileges and immunities. Who among us who are not LEOs think we could get away with threatening to shoot a cop and suffer no criminal repercussions--assuming we survived the experience? And domestic violence qualifies one to become a "prohibited person," forbidden to own guns under the Lautenberg amendment. Which means either the system gave the chief a pass, or we have yet one more example of "gun control" laws being ignored by the non-"law abiding." America's artificially manufactured crime wave
by Garry Reed

In other words, criminals are manufactured in federal state and city governments by power-addicted politicians mindlessly putting words on paper. The same is true with all levels of bureaucracy in which bureaucrats are held virtually accountable – they run amok with rules and regulations and "decisions" that become laws and create criminals of anyone who even accidentally break the rules. What this rampage of lawmaking eventually leads to are articles like these:

Wilkes-Barre, PA – A 38-year old man was arrested for possession of soap because he hoped to sell it to unsuspecting addicts as cocaine. He was, the newspaper article stated, charged with "intentional possession of a controlled substance – namely soap in lieu of crack cocaine – with intent to deliver." Politically Incorrect Movie Reviews
Quantum Of Solace
By RadioFree Rocky D

When all else fails, rattle the camera. This seems to be the motto of the 22nd Bond flick. The 007 (insert gun logo here) franchise was all but face down in the water, with a bullet in the back of its head until the remake of Casino Royale two years ago. Some Bond fans appear to like the steely-eyed, pouty-lipped Craig, But Bonnie Prince Harry – who still looks too much like James Hewitt’s kid to me; but that’s a whole ‘nother story – attended the London premiere of Quantum and said, “There’s only one Bond; Sean Connery.” Unfortunately, standing right behind him was a slightly perturbed looking Daniel Craig. Domestic Violence Industry: Hateful
By Carey Roberts

Dogged by weeks of protest, the Dallas Area Rapid Transit finally took down the controversial advertisements from its buses this past weekend. Purchased by a local abuse shelter, the ads featured a young schoolgirl who blithely predicted, “One day my husband will kill me.”

Journalist Helen Smith denounced the ads as “Very disturbing hate speech against husbands, fathers, and even boys.” Advice Goddess Amy Alkon titled her op-ed, “Hating Men – Supposedly for the Greater Good.” One distraught mother responded to the Dallas Morning News article by writing, “I took my son aside after seeing it and explained to him how certain women in this society abuse their positions to promote hatred towards men and boys.” (Read the rest here)

Inferno
By Emiliano Antunez

I lay on my couch dozing off late one evening, sipping on some single malt scotch and flipping through all the cable news networks, where each report on the economy was worse than the previous. I dozed off into semi-consciousness and began having nightmares about bankruptcy, foreclosure, unemployment, bailouts and bad hair days. When I awoke there was a gentleman in a powdered wig and a weird looking outfit -no not Rip Taylor-, he was standing at the foot of my couch curiously looking around my family room.

For some odd reason I was not too alarmed about this apparition in the midst of my house. “Who are you?” I asked. He did not answer right away since he seemed to be distracted by his surroundings. “Hey you, excuse me who are you?” I insisted. Startled, the gentleman looked down upon me sprawled on my couch, picked up my glass of single malt and sniffed it and plainly stated, “I am Adam Smith sir and you are to follow me at once.” Without pause for thought I got up off the couch and followed Mr. Smith out the front door -that single malt is strong stuff. The Future of Freedom Foundation
The Wizards of Washington
by Sheldon Richman

Remember that scene in The Wizard of Oz when Toto reveals the “great and powerful wizard” as nothing but a homunculus operating an imposing thunder-and-lightning machine? “Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain,” he bellows, not knowing enough to quit even when he’s exposed.

The government’s response to the current economic turmoil reminds me of that scene. We are assured by the awe-inspiring U.S. Treasury and Federal Reserve that if we trust them with essential control of the American economy, all will be set right. Heed Russia’s Warnings About Further NATO Expansion
Ivan Eland

Upon Barack Obama’s election, the Russians made threats to U.S. allies over their acceptance of a U.S. missile defense system. Also, Russia recently sent its first large military force to Latin America since the end of the Cold War to participate in naval exercises off the Venezuelan coast. Is this a flagrant test of a new and inexperienced president, much as Nikita Khrushchev tested the neophyte John F. Kennedy when he first took office in 1961?

More likely, Russian behavior is merely putting the new president on notice that Russia is stronger now and cannot be kicked around anymore—as it was during the Clinton and George W. Bush administrations. Meanwhile, the lame duck Bush crowd is still polishing its boots to take another whack. (Read the rest here) (Read the entire article at the source website. Private-Sector Health Care Leads the Way
by Chris Brown

While socialists point to the "failures" of the US healthcare system and, by some magical feat of legerdemain that merely exposes their (economic) ignorance, attribute it to the "free market," it is crucial for Austrolibertarians to point out the absurdity of this false reasoning.

For example, the US government accounted for over 45% of all US healthcare expenditures in 2006; it spends almost 20% of GDP on healthcare; indeed, it spends more per capita than any other OECD country (see Figure 1), including those with socialist, government-funded healthcare. In short, this is not a free market. (Read the rest here) (Read the entire article at the source website. Use the back button to return.)
