Reader's 2008 Survey
Help Determine The Future of The Price of Liberty

Dear Readers,
The Price of Liberty will be five years old on October 1, 2008. It's time to take a long, hard look at what we are doing and decide where to go from here. I need your help for this, and am asking you to take a few moments to tell me just what you like and dislike about The Price of Liberty. What would you like to see us do differently? What new feature or writer would you like to see us present? Would you be willing to help us financially if the time came when we were not able to support it ourselves anymore? Or would you miss us at all if we just went away?

Nazgul - the Texas War:
TX: Supreme Court repudiates CPS on child abductions
Fox News
“In a crushing blow to the state’s massive seizure of children from a polygamist sect’s ranch, the Texas Supreme Court ruled Thursday that child welfare officials overstepped their authority and the children should go back to their parents. The high court affirmed a decision by an appellate court last week, saying Child Protective Services failed to show an immediate danger to the more than 400 children swept up from the Yearning For Zion Ranch nearly two months ago. ‘In the record before us, removal of the children was not warranted,’ the justices said in their ruling issued in Austin.” (05/29/08)

Gee - now if they would just enforce the decision (see next story)… At least this time (unlike Waco), no one was killed. But the real criminals are the officials who used an obviously bogus “appeal for help” as an excuse to destroy these people. I am no fan of the FLDS, but they are people who have a right to decide what to do for themselves.

Mama's Note: I don't think it was much of a "crushing blow" since the children are STILL not being returned to their families. (Read the rest here)

The American People have become Servants to Government Employees
By Robert Greenslade © Nitwit Press

When a friend told me his wife, who is 53 years old, was getting ready to retire from her job, I asked if he was concerned that she had not worked long enough to get a good retirement package. He told me she has been employed by the same employer since she was 18 years old and is covered by one of the best retirement programs in the world. A big smile appeared on his face as he gave me the details: (Read the rest here)

A Quick Fix For Judicial Tryanny
By Doug Newman

I am going to repeat myself here. Not because I am all that great, but because people need to be reminded of enduring truths. It is my calling to apply enduring truths to the shifting sands of the modern world. If this election is like any other, all the predictable people will no doubt be saying something like this: "...We Must Vote Republican And Stand Behind (John McCain) And His Judicial Nominees Because If We Don't Evil Diabolical Scum Of The Earth Liberal Democrats Will Put Their Activist Judges On The Federal Bench And These Judges Will Perpetuate Judicial Tyranny By Waging A Jihad Against America, Our Christian Heritage And Values, Motherhood, Norman Rockwell, Baseball, Hot Dogs, Apple Pie And Chevrolet By Legislating From The Bench And Imposing Their Radical, Morally Bankrupt, God-Hating, Perverted Secular Agenda On The American People."

INDY ALERT! - Terror Drills June 4-19
By Captain Eric H. May - Military-Political Editor

False flags are possible only if you trust your government. Misguided trust is the key enabling factor. The matter can be stated succinctly:

If you think your government CAN'T attack you, then it CAN.
If you think your government CAN attack you, then it CAN'T.

A month ago we published the Mayday Alert to encourage widespread skepticism about May 1-8 terror drills in Seattle and Washington, DC. As we noted in our "Mayday Alert Update," countless Americans joined us in our skepticism. It's just common sense to be wary when someone brings a gun into your house -- or thousands of armed Marines into your city. (Read the rest here)

License to kill freedom popular in USSA
by Garry Reed
The Loose Cannon Libertarian

From a news report in the once communist but now enlightened Westernized European Union member Slovak Republic: a teacher who took his class on a school trip to a historic cathedral was arrested because he did not have a license to give guided tours. The pupils were also arrested for listening to the unlicensed tour.

Some people, such as American libertarians, are outraged by this example of bureaucratic pettiness. The live-and-let-live attitude of libertarians sees a clear distinction between committing a crime (defined as initiating force or fraud against another) and merely breaking a law that, since it doesn't involve injury to a person or property, and which was created by politicalhacks and pettycrats, constitutes an offense against government – in other words a political crime, an abomination in a free society. Embittered Hillary Screams Sexism
By Carey Roberts

I'm getting a little tired of the Women's Libbers who play the sexism card as a cover for ineptitude and arrogance. "It does seem as though the press at least is not as bothered by the incredible vitriol that has been engendered by the comments by people who are nothing but misogynists," Hillary Clinton angrily charged last week.

While I have high regard for Mrs. Clinton's ambition, if she hadn't been a feminist, she likely would have prevailed in the contest. She had the media coverage, fund-raising machinery, and connections with the Democratic Party establishment all going for her. So how did her feminist credentials doom her candidacy? The Cloud of Dust Raised by the Sichuan Earthquake... has a silver lining
by Kaptain Kanada, aka Manuel Miles

The Globe report refers to "a grassroots volunteer movement on a massive scale" by "volunteers [who] have come from all over China". This is worthy of note. So, too, is an obvious fact which has somehow escaped mention by the idiots of the mainstream media: this humanitarianism is a direct result of the free market capitalism which is sweeping China. The above-mentioned luxury car club owners are not Party members, either.

Something is happening here, and the socialistas of the world won't like it. The great Chinese earthquake of 2008 has exposed the statist lies about free market capitalism, and it has revealed how the entrepreneurial spirit liberates people to help one another. Reflections on Attending the 2008 Libertarian Party Convention in Denver
by Walter Block

Just this past weekend (5/22–25/08) I attended the Libertarian Party Convention in Denver. In what follows are some reflections on this experience, and ruminations on the future of the party in particular, and on the libertarian movement in general.

I had heard, beforehand, that the LP was on the verge of being taken over by conservatives, and nothing in my experience of that convention was incompatible with that surmise. The first evidence I personally witnessed in this regard was the high profile and very well-received speech of Richard Viguerie, of all people. Thought I, uh, oh, what oh what is this conservative fund raiser even doing at an LP convention, let alone addressing it at a plenary session? A Nation Afraid To Be Free
By Michael Gaddy

What do you call a group that is in the majority, has over half of their productive lives stolen on a regular basis by a minority, and those resources are used to enslave those same people and kill their children for profit. They then beg that minority for the individual liberty already provided by our creator? Without waiting for a response I replied: I call them cowards! I received several angry looks and then the group broke up without another word. It was obvious these folks walked away from our discussion, angry; not at the situation we all face in this country, but at me for asking that damning question!

People who are not free are basically an unhappy lot. I could not help but remember the words of Butler Schaffer in his article, A Passion for Life. “ It is so much easier for us to think of ourselves as victims of the state, than as having suffered the consequences of our own thinking.” (Read the rest here)

Let the Market Manage the Oil Crisis
William F. Shughart II

As the prices of food, fuel and other basic commodities continue to skyrocket, the tiny voice warning that the sky is falling becomes louder and more insistent. There are looming shortages of oil, of wheat, of copper.... Humankind’s insatiable demand for material goods has finally and permanently outstripped the resources necessary for producing them. A bleak future of ever-rising prices and stagnant growth is the inevitable consequence. Newsweek might well get away with rerunning its cover story of November 19, 1973, headlined “Are We Running Out of Everything?”

Predictions of doomsday have been around since at least 1798, when Thomas Robert Malthus wrote that mankind was condemned to live at the margin of starvation. He reasoned that if wages ever rose above the minimum level necessary to sustain life, it would enable people to feed and raise more children. But because agricultural production could not possibly keep pace with population growth, famine and premature death would force a return to bare subsistence. Can You Really Love Your Country?
by Sheldon Richman

Why do people get upset with Barack Obama for not wearing a flag pin on his lapel or with Michelle Obama for suggesting she’s not been proud of her country until now? Why is failing to “support the troops” regarded as a sin? Because it’s a secular blasphemy to do or say anything that suggests you don’t love your country. But why should you love your country? Most people would say our country has done so much for us that we should show our gratitude.

But what has “our country” done for us? An even better question is: what is “our country”? (Read the rest here) (Read the entire article at the source website. Use the back button to return.)

Starving the World's Poorest
by Bogdan C. Enache

World food prices have increased dramatically, by almost 60 percent on average since March of last year, according to the index compiled by the World Food and Agricultural Organization, and there's no sign yet that they're going to substantially fall back in the near future. With record prices on the Chicago Board of Trade for futures contracts on agricultural commodities, it seems very likely that the high food prices are here to stay for the next few years.

Naturally, governments all over the world now feel compelled to rectify the situation and are busy enacting or preparing to enact various measures that they believe will help ease the rise of food prices. In general, however, they only succeed in making things worse. (Read the rest here) (Read the entire article at the source website. Use the back button to return.)
