Commentary on The News, 06 - 12 January, '08 Africa is back in the news this week, both for past evils and current ones; but the news was mostly filled (gag) with the news of the 2008 campaign. (I am already completely sick of it.) Nevertheless, there are a few other important stories out there on which I can be blatantly opinionated and express evil (or at least non-PC) views and get people mad at me. Or rather, more people mad at me! Lets go! African
front: The groups (governments) trying Taylor are nothing more than pots calling the kettle black. If Smillies testimony were honest, he would be condemning all the groups and not just Taylors stupid and bloody regime. Taylor is in custody, but the killing and everything else continues. Mama's Note: The question that keeps running through my head is, How do these men get such power over the people in the first place? That would seem to be the place to start looking for answers. One would think that somewhere, somehow the people would finally figure out that the promises of politicians and "kings" are always bogus and will always lead to destruction. But that's been going on for many thousands of years with little change. They always believe that THIS time it will be different. I can't help it, but the Ron Paul campaign comes immediately to mind. (Read the rest here) Dr.
Ron Paul and False Flag Fever International events this week have proved Ron Paul a most insightful American. A year ago Paul worried aloud that a contrived incident at sea might neocon us into more Middle East mischief. A year later, on Jan. 6, just before Bush was to make a hawkish visit to a Jewish state eager for us to start a war with Iran, the US Navy reported that five Iranian speedboats were threatening to attack three heavily armed and armored US fighting ships, the smallest of which was one and a half football fields long.
US mainstream media gamely chimed in with the act. Since 9/11, they have regularly told us whoppers to lure us to and keep us in the quicksand of a Middle Eastern war. In 2003 they sold us a "Saving Private Jessica Lynch" farce to avoid showing us the Battle of Baghdad, which US forces took only after four days of fierce and bloody fighting. (Read the rest here)
Hillary
Clinton's Messiah Complex It's no secret that Hillary Clinton views herself as a member of the God Squad, divinely anointed to shepherd the masses to greater gender consciousness. "Hillary acts as though she has been chosen by God," recounts Edward Klein, author of The Truth about Hillary. "I find her to be among the most self-righteous people I've ever known," explains former New York Times reporter Bob Boorstin. And during her senate campaign Hillary glowed approvingly whenever Black preachers declared her "a woman of God." But how many people know how Mrs. Clinton's messianic streak may lead to her political undoing? (Read the rest here)
Hillary:
No Woman is Illegal With unsurpassed campaign brilliance, Sen. Hillary Clinton managed to confluence two of her most critical campaign themes -- Gender Politics and Immigration into four words: No woman is illegal. She also threw in Health Care to make it a Trifecta. All this was reported in the Las Vegas Review-Journal on January 11, 2007 in an article titled Las Vegas Stop: Clinton pitch hits home Democratic hopeful goes door to door. So, as a man, I am kind of wondering how this would work if Senator Clinton became President Clinton. Presumably, every mode of transportation would be full of women from every corner of the earth flocking to America because they would not have to worry about trifling matters such as immigration status, citizenship, and health care. Presumably also, any man swimming upstream against the inflowing tide of women would be declared illegal and sent back to wherever. Do I read it right: Men need not apply? Men, you still are illegal? The Future of Freedom Foundation Energy
Fascists One of the great unnoticed curiosities of the presidential campaign is that the party which claims devotion to free enterprise is full-out socialist -- or, more precisely, fascist -- when it comes to energy. Listening to the presidential forum the other night, I was struck by how antifree market all but one of the candidates are on this matter. (The exception is Ron Paul.) Of course, Romney, McCain, Giuliani, Huckabee, and Thompson don't embrace the free market for anything, really. But they pay lip service to it on many issues. When it comes to energy, they don't do even that. (Read the rest here)
The
Peoples Gold WASHINGTONSome assets rise because people feel there will be no end to their good fortune. That kind of irrational exuberance partly explains the dot-com bubble of the 1990s and the real estate bubble of the new millenniumto use the felicitous expression coined by former Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan, the man whose infelicitous management of the U.S. currency contributed to both. And then there are those assets that rise because of a fear of the future. Gold is by far the most interesting example. (Read the rest here)
From The Ludwig von Mises Institute Myth
and Truth About Libertarianism
It is especially important to clear up a number of misconceptions about libertarianism that are held by most people, and particularly by conservatives. Murray Rothbard enumerates and critically analyzes six of the most common myths that are held about libertarianism. (Read the rest here) (Read the entire article at the source website. External Articles Many people are finally saying the R word: Recession. The fundamentals don't look good. The externals are even scarier: dollar and stocks skidding, gold and other prices (particularly producer prices) rising. But what has tipped the psychological scales is the statistic no one has cared much about in many years: unemployment. The actual rate is very low by any historical standard: 5%. What matters here is the direction of change. It jumped from 4.7%. In the old days, unemployment rates of 5% and 6% were considered "full employment" in the Keynesian models. If government attempted to push employment below that level (and it is absurd to think that anyone in Washington can control the economy in that way), it would risk setting off inflation, or so it was believed. (Read the rest here) (Read the entire article at the source website. Use the back button to return.) What's
it Gonna Take? Let me say that again, rephrasing it slightly, to make sure that everybody understands what may be the most important political concept I'll be discussing here. Rights enumerated in the first ten amendments to the Constitution are not properly subject to any form of limitation or regulation by the very government they were intended to protect us from. Take, for example, the First Amendment. No country with something like it in its Constitution has a place for a "Federal Communications Commission" to limit or regulate free speech, simply because it is broadcast, rather than shouted across a public square or printed in a newspaper. The FCC is a creature of early 20th century Progressivism, using the First World War as an excuse to make sure nobody questioned authority. Similarly, the Second Amendment acknowledges a pre-existing individual right to own and carry weapons. The Founding Fathers, including Thomas Jefferson, George Mason, James Monroe, James Madison, Patrick Henry, Samuel Adams believed (and wrote in various letters to one another and to others) that the fullest exercise of this right is essential to the continued existence of the free society that they had created. You Speak Thuggery or Freedom? John P. Walters just can't seem to contain himself. Give the career powercrat a job with the imperial appellation of "Drug Czar" and he just instinctively grasps for more. Last summer, for example, the Top Drug Thug made headlines by declaring that simple, nonviolent marijuana gardeners are dangerous terrorists. While you puzzle over that oxymoronic disconnect, consider this further quote from the Redding Record Searchlight : "Marijuana gardens are a terrorist threat to the public's health and safety, as well as to the environment."
