07, 2008 Another short news week with a holiday in the middle. Welcome to 2008! Lots of news from Africa and the Middle East/South Asia this week, though. Afghan
front: 110 doesnt sound like that many, of course, compared to Mesopotamia. And when you get right down to it, it is a horribly logical tradeoff: the Taleban, if not trying to retake their own home ground, would be busy killing a lot more people in other countries, most likely including the West: another suicide bombing a successful one in Madrid, London, Miami, or Los Angeles, could easily kill 10 times that number of westerners, even while the Taleban, with a free hand in Afghanistan and Pakistan would be killing 20 or 30 times as many locals who dont agree with their rabid beliefs. Mama's Note: While it is certainly possible that some of these people might attack us here, that is simply no justification for our occupation there. If they come here, we deal with it. In the meantime, how many of their own people they kill is none of our business, regrettable as it is. (Read the rest here)

Letter to Ron Paul Supporters I've been reading all of the "open letters" from Ron Paul supporters to various groups, but I've not seen many going the other direction, so here goes. The only honest basis for a free and healthy society is a population that generally accepts responsibility for their own lives and those of their families, works together in voluntary cooperation to achieve their goals, and actively participates in the free market. A lot of people say they agree with this, more or less, but I wonder how that translates into everyday life. So, I'd like to ask you some hard questions. You'll have to look deep into your own heart and see just how close the reality aligns with the theoretical. (Read the rest here)

Paul, Our Last Hope, Wont Be Allowed To Win! Let US be perfectly clear on just one thing going into 2008: Congressman Ron Paul of the 14th District in Texas will NOT be allowed to win. Period end of discussion!
I have previously written that Congressman Ron Paul is Americas last hope of restoring the constitutionally limited republican form of government envisioned by BOTH our Federalist and anti-Federalist Founding Fathers. And both Federalists and anti-Federalists abhorred cash-raising and lobby-dominated political parties that catered to pay-offs from big money. For it is the political parties and their supportive cash-bearing lobbies and big corporate benefactors that comprise The Establishment which has replaced the will of the people. (Read the rest here)
Spitting
On The Troops... 2007 Style The military, like any other segment of the government, grows and thrives based on the willingness of people to believe its propaganda. During my 17 years of involvement with the Navy -- they let me retire early because of a relapse of a back injury -- I seriously believed I was contributing to the defense of America and its freedom. Almost all of my shipmates believed likewise. Like more and more veterans, living life and observing events have opened my eyes to the fact that I was being lied to. And, like more and more veterans, I am speaking up in the hope that Americans stop dying for lies. I love the Navy, but I hate what it is being used for nowadays. (Read the rest here)

Paul's 9/11 Truth and Glenn Beck's 7/27 Treason Congressman Ron Paul, a Republican libertarian and presidential candidate, faces a classic leader's dilemma. In front of him are his enemies -- championed by the mainstream media -- who want to lure him into rash statements. They believe that if they can do this they can label him an extremist and destroy his aspirations. His 911 Truth friends, on the other hand, are pushing him from behind. They want him to state outright that 9/11 was either committed, permitted or covered up by the Bush administration in order to start a Global War in the Middle East and a dictatorial Homeland in the United States. Their strategy would place Paul exactly where his enemies want him. (Read the rest here)
How
did Hillary Fall into the Feminist Fold? As her once insurmountable lead slips away, Hillary Clinton is desperately trying to turn things around by portraying herself as the most experienced, likeable, and yes, huggable candidate. Maybe voters in Iowa, New Hampshire, and elsewhere should hear the story behind her youthful transformation from Goldwater Republican to iconic feminist. The roots of Hillary's gynocentric leanings can be traced to her relationship with her mother Dorothy, who had been abandoned by her parents. As Hillary revealed in her autobiography, "I thought often of my own mother's neglect and mistreatment at the hands of her parents and grandparents." (Read the rest here)

The Archives So what did the election accomplish? The appearance that the will of the people has been accomplished, a new era is beginning, America will build back from the Bush years, and the people still have power. That is precisely what anyone could have predicted, given the irritation over the Iraq war and the Bush administration for the past six years. Is it realistic to believe that America will return to the nation it was in the 1950's, when government intervention in private lives (right down to your cholesterol level, flu shot or your choice to smoke a ground up leaf) would have caused a genuine revolt among the people? Hardly. Is it reasonable to believe that morality will improve, among both the unchurched and leaders of religious bodies? Not really, when money, power, sex and self-gratification are the Baals that line the halls of America from school to church to political office to home. Is it reasonable to believe that the Republicans are relieved that they have been booted off the hot seat over Iraq and now the world will give America time to get another act together, since hope springs eternal? Yes. That's what this changing of the guard, in appearance more than substance, was all about. (11/13/06) (Read the rest here)
The
Future of Freedom Foundation "The assassination of Benazir Bhutto was not an attack on this brave woman alone; it was an attack upon democracy, freedom and the United States." This statement by Asa Hutchinson, former undersecretary of homeland security, was typical of the reaction of the American political and media establishments. The claim that the assassination was an attack on democracy and freedom is dubious because Bhutto's two spells as prime minister of Pakistan were not notable for either one. Whether it was an attack on the United States depends on what that means. It certainly was not an attack on the American people. How could it be construed that way, unless one has such an imperialist notion of "our interests" that nothing can happen in the world without impinging on them? (Read the rest here)
From The Ludwig von Mises Institute Presidential election years usually are not recessionary but next year will be an exception. Several economic factors are colliding in an almost perfect storm to markedly slow the general economy and the stock market. The most important signal flashing recession is, of course, the subprime mortgage fiasco. After years of monetary inflation on the part of the Federal Reserve, individuals and families with poor credit were suckered into low-down-payment/low-interest adjustable mortgages that simply cannot be maintained or repaid under current conditions. Their incentive is to sell the property quickly before their equity evaporates or the financial institution repossesses it. Yet the massive oversupply of homes and condos for sale has pushed prices down at a record clip and made additional foreclosures even more likely. Next year, unfortunately, will be the Year of the Auction. (Read the rest here) (Read the entire article at the source website. Use the back button to return.) Why
Don't People Get It? Even now, people think nothing of professing their attachment to socialist ideology at cocktail parties, at restaurants serving abundant foods, and lounging in the fanciest apartments and homes that mankind has ever enjoyed. Yes, it is still fashionable to be a socialist, andin some circles within the arts and academiasocially required. No one will recoil. Someone will openly congratulate you for your idealism. In the same way, you can always count on eliciting agreement by decrying the evils of Wal-Mart and Microsoft. Isn't it remarkable? Socialism (the real-life version) collapsed nearly twenty years agovicious regimes founded on the principles of Marxism, overthrown by the will of the people. Following that event we've seen these once decrepit societies come back to life and become a major source for the world's prosperity. Trade has expanded. The technological revolution is achieving miracles by the day right under our noses. Millions have been made far better off, in ever-widening circles. The credit is wholly due to the free market, which possesses a creative power that has been underestimated by even its most passionate proponents. External Articles This article was written in the mid-1950s under the byline "Aubrey Herbert," a pseudonym Rothbard used in the periodical Faith and Freedom. It was never published. The libertarian who is happily engaged expounding his political philosophy in the full glory of his convictions is almost sure to be brought short by one unfailing gambit of the statist. As the libertarian is denouncing public education or the Post Office, or refers to taxation as legalized robbery, the statist invariably challenges. "Well, then are you an anarchist?" The libertarian is reduced to sputtering "No, no, of course I'm not an anarchist." "Well, then, what governmental measures do you favor? What type of taxes do you wish to impose?" The statist has irretrievably gained the offensive, and, having no answer to the first question, the libertarian finds himself surrendering his case. Thus, the libertarian will usually reply: "Well, I believe in a limited government, the government being limited to the defense of the person or property or the individual against invasion by force or fraud." I have tried to show in my article, "The Real Aggressor" in the April 1954 Faith and Freedom that this leaves the conservative helpless before the argument "necessary for defense," when it is used for gigantic measures of statism and bloodshed. There are other consequences equally or more grave. The statist can pursue the matter further: "If you grant that it is legitimate for people to band together and allow the State to coerce individuals to pay taxes for a certain service "defense" why is it not equally moral and legitimate for people to join in a similar way and allow the State the right to provide other services such as post offices, "welfare," steel, power, etc.? If a State supported by a majority can morally do one, why not morally do the others?" (Read the rest here) (Read the entire article at the source website. Use the back button to return.) Who
We Are: An Open Letter to the Old Media Reality for you, Old Media representatives and executives, is self-fulfilling. That is, the reality broadcast through the airwaves and printed on dead wood has for so long influenced the way that the general public perceives reality, it has become inconceivable that a time would come when your pictures and words would no longer drive public opinion. I am writing this to you as a final warning. That time has already arrived. Whether or not Dr. Paul threw his hat in the ring, it was inevitable. With the advent of the Internet, people from all over the world, able to tell their own stories and reflect their own perceptions to willing eyes and ears, have provided an awakening and shake at the very foundations of what you currently perceive to be reality. the Winners Are: Al Gore, Al Gore, and Al Gore How many awards can Al Gore win from his worldwide coterie of sycophants? In the spirit of international political correctness, the former vice president was awarded the Nobel Has-Nothing-to-Do-with-Peace Prize for emitting toxic pollutants into the atmosphere from his worldwide jet-setting to lecture everyone else about halting global warming by adopting medieval lifestyles while he "offsets" his own carbon footprint by screwing fluorescent light bulbs into the foyer of his energy-hog mansion.
