7, 2008 The only honest basis for a free and healthy society is a population that generally accepts responsibility for their own lives and those of their families, works together in voluntary cooperation to achieve their goals, and actively participates in the free market. A lot of people say they agree with this, more or less, but I wonder how that translates into everyday life. So, I'd like to ask you some hard questions. You'll have to look deep into your own heart and see just how close the reality aligns with the theoretical. 1. Do you accept that you have NO "right" to the property of another person - under any circumstance? Or do you require someone to guarantee you "safety," a "living wage" or anything beyond your God given true right to your own life, liberty and property - and the logical defense of those rights? 2. Do you accept the fact that you (or any "majority") have NO right to decide what is best for the health or welfare of anyone else? Do you understand that everyone has the right to do as they please with their own life and property, as long as they don't aggress against others? Do you actually own your own body, and accept that everyone else does as well? 3. Do you, personally, take full responsibility for the health, welfare and defense of yourself and family? If not, who is responsible for these things and how can they be paid for without theft and violence against those who refuse to be plundered? The power to tax is, of course, central to government power over us and our property. Michael S. Rozeff summarizes it nicely here:
The focus of my political ideology for the last 15 years or so has been self-government, individual sovereignty and self defense as the only path to liberty and justice. Government by others is a trap and a disaster, regardless of the good intentions of those who would govern us. It always and everywhere leads to tyranny and death. Until the average person is actually willing to take personal responsibility for their own life and family, and stop depending on the goods stolen from their neighbors, nothing is ever going to change - no matter who is elected president or what he/she promises. Don't believe me? Look in your local newspaper and especially consider the stories about economic conditions. How many are crying about "lost" tax revenue, new taxes and "fees," government waste and fraud, new and more insane "programs" proposed, and the absence of anything calling for personal responsibility. Count the stories where taxes and regulations are driving out businesses and causing prices to rise. You have to read between the lines here, of course, because few in the media even see this, let alone report it. But you most certainly won't see demands to eliminate any government spending, especially at the local level. Ron Paul might well be helping a lot of people to see how bloated and destructive some parts of the federal government has become, but until those people stop expecting a free lunch and knuckle down to the hard work of becoming individual sovereigns, real change just isn't going to happen. Even if Ron Paul - or anyone - really did try to dismantle the state, they wouldn't let him. I don't intend to vote for anyone.
