right to defend ourselves: Harsh, but inevitable. The 12-year-old was old enough to know he wasnt playing a game, and he paid for his stupidity. Too bad the parent wasnt there to see what their child-raising (or lack thereof) led to. Mama's Note: Oh, I suspect they'll find a way to prosecute Paniagua. If he's an "illegal alien," he can't legally possess a gun. He therefore won't have a concealed carry permit, and will be charged also with illegal carry, storage and anything else they can think of. I suspect he'd have been much better off to drive away and forget the little wannabe robber. Too bad. (Read the rest here) (Two pages again!)

Many Laws Create Entitled Special Interests, and Eventually Anarchy! How can a nation of free people, whose foundation of law is the U. S. Constitution, a relatively simple and easy to understand document, wrap themselves up tight in the chains of hundreds of thousands of laws, thereby surrendering their very freedom that our Constitution promises? When a nation writes too many laws, it makes otherwise lawful citizens into lawbreakers. Now every American citizen is breaking one or more laws, daily and they have no idea they are doing it. Want to know just how many laws there are? Here are excerpts from an article by Claire Wolf: (Read the rest here)
Petraeus
with a Kiss (A Critical Review) Give credit where credit is due. This week General Petraeus fully understood his role when he came to Washington. His costume was dazzling, bedecked with nine rows of fruit salad and a fine collection of qualification badges. His spit shined shoes creaked with excitement, but his expression was as firm as his comb-over hairdo, and he was ready. The four-star wanted to put on a stellar performance for a sold-out Congress. Everything was at stake, and everyone knew it. Congress was a good crowd, especially when you consider that two thirds of the American people, whom they are supposed to represent, now oppose the war. Two thirds of the Iraqi people believe that the surge has only made things worse, and a majority of them think that shooting an American G.I. is an act of national liberation. (Read the rest here)
Surrender
Should Not Be an Option Faced with dwindling support of the Iraq War, the warhawks are redoubling their efforts. They imply we are in Iraq attacking those who attacked us, and yet this is not the case. As we know, Saddam Hussein, though not a particularly savory character, had nothing to do with 9/11. The neo-cons claim surrender should not be an option. In the same breath they claim we were attacked because of our freedoms. Why then, are they so anxious to surrender our freedoms with legislation like the Patriot Act, a repeal of our 4th amendment rights, executive orders, and presidential signing statements? With politicians like these, who needs terrorists? Do they think if we destroy our freedoms for the terrorists they will no longer have a reason to attack us? This seems the epitome of cowardice coming from those who claim a monopoly on patriotic courage. (Read the rest here)
How
Female Illegals Abuse the System Every year thousands of Americans are victimized by a swindle known as the "immigrant abuse scam." What's amazing is this shake-down is paid for by the U.S. taxpayer under the guise of stopping domestic violence. One of those persons was Roger Knudson, 64, of Arizona. When he discovered his wife was having an affair, he filed for divorce. Fearing the judge would learn her visa had expired and order her back to Mexico, she fell into a rage and attacked him. Awareness
and House Resolution 590 Although the 110th Congress Resolution 590 claims that Congress wants to raise awareness of domestic violence, Resolution 590 accomplishes just the opposite concerning male victimization; i.e.: "Whereas one in four women will experience domestic violence sometime in her life" and "Whereas 13 percent of teenage girls who have been in a relationships report being hit or hurt by their partner." These are just two of many examples of the ignorant or purposeful exclusion of male victimization by Congress. The "one in four claim," is probably from the National Violence Against Women Survey (NVAWS) that documents nearly 25 percent of women report their victimization. The Resolution makes no attempt to raise awareness about the fact that NVAWS also documents that 7.6 percent of surveyed men are domestic violence victims. And perhaps Congress is not aware that the NVAWS clearly documents that women are twice as likely to report their victimization as are men. (Read the rest here)

The Archives US scientists have uncovered substantial evidence that politics damages the human brain in a privately funded, quietly conducted independent study. Government researchers vehemently disagree, and have now begun extensive studies of lab rats to demonstrate the benign effects of political activity on the brain - but their findings so far have proved largely inconclusive. "Some rats exhibit early signs of confusion, such as appearing to be blind and falling into ditches, and tend to become aggressive, such as stealing but rationalizing it's okay because they call it taxes, but they all quickly learned to pull the lever when they found they could vote themselves cheese from the public pantry," remarked Dr. Sherman Peabody, the scientist in charge of the tax-funded project. "Any assertion that politics impedes one's ability to think intelligently sounds like a vast left-brained conspiracy theory. Or maybe right-brained. I'm not sure. Sometimes I can't tell my right hand from my left hand. Often, one doesn't know what the other is doing, either. Dr. Ninevah has the same problem." (Read the rest here)

9/11in a Long Series September 11, 2001, has become an exceptionally memorable date, and a great deal more, for Americans. Not simply the date on which the infamous terrorist attacks took place and the great World Trade Center towers collapsed with horrific loss of innocent life, 9/11 has become a compelling ideological symbol as only a few other dates in our history, such as July 4, 1776, and December 7, 1941, have become. A visual representation of the burning skyscrapers brings a plethora of 9/11 associations instantly to mind and triggers a suite of strong emotions. (Read the rest here)

Liberty - 101 Like most of precolonial Africa, Somalia is traditionally a stateless society. When the colonial powers withdrew, in order to better serve their purposes, they hastily trained local people and set up European-style governments in their place. These were supposed to be democratic. But they soon devolved into brutal dictatorships. Democracy is unworkable in Africa for several reasons. The first thing that voting does is to divide a population into two groups a group that rules and a group that is ruled. This is completely at variance with Somali tradition. Second, if democracy is to work, it depends in theory, at least, upon a populace that will vote on issues. But in a kinship society such as Somalia, voting takes place not on the merit of issues but along group lines; one votes according to one's clan affiliation. Since the ethic of kinship requires loyalty to one's fellow clansmen, the winners use the power of government to benefit their own members, which means exploitation of the members of other clans. Consequently when there exists a governmental apparatus with its awesome powers of taxation and police and judicial monopoly, the interests of the clans conflict. Some clan will control that apparatus. To avoid being exploited by other clans, each must attempt to be that controlling clan. (Read the rest here) (Read the entire article at the source website.
