The real history of the world is overlaid with all manner of fabrication and obscurity. The victors and rulers write the history as much as they shape it, and we can never know the whole truth of what has gone before in many cases, but Americans are blessed with some of the clearest and best documents from those who lived our history to form and pursue what has to be recognized as a second renaissance - the declaration of individual liberty as the highest destiny of mankind, and the American Revolution that gave birth to an opportunity for all men to live free. Unfortunately, that opportunity was squandered, almost from the beginning. It seems fairly obvious that the US Constitution and Bill of rights are among the least understood (even if best known) documents to come out of the early American experience, and individual liberty is a concept most people of the US don't really understand at all any more. The words have been used to mean other things, and the will to live free as self responsible men and women has been shattered with the false promise of socialism and an almost all powerful central government. Robert and Claude have written this book to clarify the original intent of the Bill of Rights, show the debates by the authors, and how the articles might look written in modern English. The overall theme is a ringing call for people to recognize that government is not the author or provider of human rights, and that no Constitution or other document can grant them. The book is presented in a format the average American can read and digest in an hour or so and will be an ideal supplement for education, especially homeschoolers. The text is limited to 24 pages (123 footnotes) and a 46 page appendix with the original documents for 70 total pages. The 8 1/2 x 11 softbound book is attractive and should give long service. $10.00-includes shipping and any applicable sales tax. P.S.C.S.
