Dear Readers:
Mama
is back!! This will be a short issue, just to catch up on some of the things submitted before I left. Next week we'll have a full slate of articles for you. Thanks so much for your patience! MamaLiberty

Be Careful What You Wish For
By Lady Liberty

Our personal lives would probably be much nicer if more people stopped - even for a brief moment at a time - to think just a little about other people. It certainly doesn't take a lot of extra time or hurt me in any way to be considerate in a movie theatre; making somebody feel good in the grocery store costs me nothing but a couple of extra seconds which, whatever the time of day, I can certainly afford. I'm nice to clients when they call our office, not merely because "the customer is always right," but because I appreciate good service myself. And again, it costs me next to nothing, and I can potentially gain plenty by doing so.

The truth is that we could solve a lot of other problems if we were just a little less self-centered, too. In fact, most of the problems we're having with the government these days is a direct result of the "what's in it for me?" attitude so many so overtly display these days. (Read the rest here)

Blame It On The Patriarchy
By Carey Roberts

The feminism is a secular religion with its own high priestesses, dogmas, and initiation rituals. Its creation myth holds that on the first day Goddess created Eve, and all was right with the world. But that idyllic state was shattered when first patriarch Adam stumbled into the Garden, pounded on the table, and demanded his apple.

Simply put, the word "patriarchy" denotes male leadership. By that definition, the United States is a patriarchal society.

It was our Founding Fathers who brought forth a nation based on the principles of democracy, equal opportunity, and limited government. Men provided the raw muscle power and ingenuity that became the engine for a booming economy. Patriarchs, also known as primary breadwinners, provided sustenance and stability to their families. JPFO Alert: Another Back Door to "Gun Control"

We're hearing more and more about the possibility of combining the US, Canada, and Mexico into a new entity similar to the European Union. A key part of this "North American Union" (aka "North American Community") would expand NAFTA to include a court system that would have supremacy over all US law (even the Supreme Court!) in "...any matter related to the trilateral political and economic integration" of the three countries. Public Enemy No. 1 – The Media!
By Ted Lang © 2005

December 5 , 2005
No conspiracies, huh? And no media collaboration with these conspiracies either, huh? When I tried to point out the unity of government and media that continuously partner to propagandize illegal and immoral policies guaranteed to destroy America’s founding concept of maximum individual human freedom, a so-called “libertarian” website put me down. I wasted no time in relegating that highly articulate and totally ignorant moron and “libertarian” gatekeeper and his website to the lowest level of news and opinion writing. Fortunately for the mainstream libertarian Internet philosophers, this is a lightly trafficked and not very popular site.

“The media is the enemy!” This is the title of the introductory narrative of American Free Press.net. AFP offers: “In the old Soviet Union, the government controlled the media. Not a word of substance could be published without prior approval from the Bolshevik commissars. Today, in the United States, the situation is starkly similar. But most Americans don’t even know it. Your Taxes Subsidize China
by Congressman Ron Paul - R - TX

Each year the people of the United States write a check to subsidize China, one of the most brutal, anti-American regimes in the world. Lately it has been in vogue for everyone in Washington to eagerly denounce the egregious abuses of the Chinese people at the hands of their communist dictators. Yet no one in our federal government has been willing to take China on in any meaningful way.

Very few people realize that China is one of the biggest beneficiaries of American taxpayer subsidies. Thanks to the largesse of Congress and the President, China enjoys subsidized trade and the flow of US tax dollars into Beijing's coffers. (Read the rest here)

Why Do They Hate Us?
By Jacob G. Hornberger

You'll recall that immediately after the 9/11 attacks, U.S. officials declared that the attacks had been motivated by the terrorists' hatred for America's "freedom and values." That refrain produced the "war on terrorism" and, more recently, the "war on radical Islamo-fascism."

Nonsense, said libertarians. The anger and hatred that Arabs and Muslims have for the United States is rooted in decades of U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East. Ending the U.S. government's decades-old policy of empire and intervention would bring an end to the threat of terrorism (and radical Islamo-fascism) against the United States. (Read the rest here)

The Bush Administration Makes New Enemies Daily
By Ivan Eland

In the frenzy surrounding the exposed plot to simultaneously blow up ten airliners flying from Britain to the United States, one line of inquiry being pursued by investigators should make the Bush administration very nervous. British and Pakistani law enforcement officials are examining whether the British plotters of Pakistani descent received money from an Islamic charity, Jamaat ud Dawa. The charity has been used as a front for a militant group fighting for the separation of the Muslim province of Kashmir from the predominantly Hindu India. The most important element in the whole investigation is that Jamaat ud Dawa was recently labeled a terrorist organization by the Bush administration. Could this labeling have motivated the plot in the first place? (Read the rest here)

Libertarian Commentary on the News, 10 - 12 August, 2006
Again, a partial week's news and my "abbreviated formatting. Mama Liberty was on the road last weekend, and your correspondent is this week. By the way, your comments and suggestions are VERY much wanted. Let's look at world issues first!

WORLD WARS: Australia: $3.2 billion a year for war on drugs
Melbourne Herald Sun
"Australia's fight against illicit drugs costs about $3.2 billion a year, with more than half blown on drug-related policing, a hard-hitting report has found. An ambitious independent report has calculated for the first time how much money state and Federal Governments spend on drug prevention, treatment and the consequences of addiction. ... researchers involved with the project are concerned the governments are 'running blind' -- spending money with no clue of the return on their investment." (08/11/06)

Like any war, no one counts the cost until afterwards - and the profiteering is horrendous. (Read the rest here)

LRT Green Ribbon Campaign
The Liberty Round Table is a voluntary organization that advocates freedom for all individuals. Our green ribbon campaign, created by Dave McGraw, was inspired by the highly successful online blue ribbon campaign for freedom of speech. While that is very important, it is more important that individuals come to understand the glory and responsibility of individual freedom, and act to promote it among all peoples.
