Politically Incorrect Movie Reviews
The Da Vinci Code
By RadioFree Rocky D

This film may lead to hearing loss. Your right ear will be assaulted by Christian folk nattering, “It’s-fiction-ya-know-it’s-fiction-ya-know” and your left ear will be inundated by anti-Christians jabbering, “It’s-true-ya-know-it’s-true-ya-know.” Friends, I’ve read THE BOOK and seen THE MOVIE and I can tell you that The Da Vinci Code actually does commit a grave sin that begins with a “B.” No, not blasphemy – boredom. Once this flick comes out on DVD, people will wear out their “play” buttons thinking this slow-moving turkey is on pause. This movie is so dull it could put Jesus Himself to sleep – and it’s about Him. One thing is sure; only Christianity is expected to endure a backhanded insult such as The Da Vinci Code. You will never see Hollyweird make a movie impugning Judaism, Buddhism or even the new-age wacky Wiccans. Hell, Hollyweird is positively frightened to even show a single image of Muhammad. So why all the Christian-bashing? Simple. It’s trendy. And to Hollyweird, to not be trendy would be a real sin.

So, you are the Christ, you're the great Jesus Christ. Prove to me that you're no fool; walk across my swimming pool. – Jesus Christ Superstar. (Read the rest here)

The Militia Clause of the Constitution Negates the "Collective Right"
Interpretation of the Second Amendment

By Robert Greenslade © Nitwit Press

Those groups and individuals opposed to the private ownership of firearms claim the people do not have the individual right to keep and bear arms because the Second Amendment pertains to the "collective right" of the States to maintain armed militias. A simple review of the debates on the militia clause disproves this interpretation of the Second Amendment.

During the debates in the Federal [Constitutional] Convention of 1787, there was an extensive debate concerning the militia. On August 23rd, a committee report was delivered to the Convention. The following clause was under consideration: (Read the rest here)

Remembering Freedom
By Lady Liberty

Americans like the Fourth of July. They decorate their houses in red, white and blue, and they have barbecues. They watch parades. They say, "Oooh!" and "Ahhhh!" appreciatively at fireworks displays. They plan picnics. Some Americans actually take the time to devote some part of their day to listening to somebody else read the Declaration of Independence or to honor the men and women of the Armed Forces. But most of them have no notion of the irony of their celebrations. And if they did, an appalling number of them wouldn't care.

230 years ago, the signing of the Declaration of Independence was announced to the citizens of the thirteen original American colonies. Without question, the 56 men who signed it were risking not only their livelihoods and their properties, but their very lives. But they damned the consequences,* and signed it anyway. Why? For freedom. (Read the rest here)

So, The UN Doesn't Want Your Guns?

"Gone long ago is the time when we Europeans could subdue other continents because we had firearms and the local
peoples had not. In 1999 it was reported that an AK-47 assault rifle could be bought in Uganda for the price of
a chicken." - Robert Neild [1]

Time and again we hear, "The UN doesn't want to take your guns. They just want to control illegal arms trade."
Try to protest, and you're dismissed as "one of those wacky gun nuts."

Perhaps this will wake a few folks up. Click here.

Will Mexico 'Jump to the Top'?
By Alvaro Vargas Llosa

It is now almost certain, as of this writing, that Felipe Calderón, the center-right candidate of the National Action Party in Mexico's presidential election, has beaten Andrés Manuel López Obrador, the left-wing candidate of the Revolutionary Democratic Party, by a tiny margin.

The optimistic view is that Mr. López Obrador was gloriously defeated by Mr. Calderón, a modernizing reformer. But pessimists will point out that a third of all Mexicans voted for Mr. López Obrador, and between a fifth and a quarter for the center-left PRI (the third party in the race). This means that the majority remains divided between the kind of left-wing populism that has kept Mexico underdeveloped—now represented by Mr. López Obrador—and the PRI, a complex system of vested interests responsible for blocking every attempt at reform made by President Vicente Fox over the last six years. Both optimists and pessimists have a point. (Read the rest here)

The lawlessness of the FDA, Big Pharma immunity, and crimes against humanity (opinion)
Truth Publishing
June 30, 2006 is a day that will be long remembered as a dark milestone in the history of FDA and its campaign against health consumers. On June 30, an FDA "Final Rule" goes into effect, establishing a regulatory power grab of such scale and scope that it attempts to bypass all laws, the will of Congress and fundamental protections for consumers. This "Final Rule," which may as well be called a "Final Solution" for drug consumers, claims that consumers can no longer sue drug companies for the harm caused by any FDA-approved drug, even if the drug's manufacturer intentionally misled the FDA by hiding or fabricating clinical trial data.

There are alternatives. The best thing Americans can do for themselves is to stop taking these drugs at all. Here is a small sample of articles that show how that can be done - how YOU can do that quickly and easily in your own life. (Read the rest here)

A New Declaration
by Congressman Ron Paul - R - TX

On the fourth day of July, in 1776, a small group of men, representing 13 colonies in the far-off Americas, boldly told the most powerful nation on earth that they were free.

They declared, in terms that still are radical today, that all men are created equal, and endowed with certain inalienable rights that government neither grants nor can take away.

In the Declaration of Independence, the founding fathers sought to demonstrate to the world that they were rejecting a tyrannical king. They listed the “injuries and usurpations” that contain the philosophical basis for our Constitution and Bill of Rights. (Read the rest here)

Theodore Roosevelt Is No One to Emulate
by Sheldon Richman

We shouldn't be surprised that President George W. Bush's Svengali, Karl Rove, is an admirer of Theodore Roosevelt. TR is hot these days. He made the cover of Time magazine, heralding a series of hagiographic articles, including Rove's, that make him out to be the first modern American president. In Time's view, that means he saw the country's potential for big intrusive government at home and abroad -- the first Imperial New Dealer.

Time's writers see what they want to see in TR. They see a trustbuster who favored government regulation of the economy to tame the excesses of big business. In fact, he was a mercantilist, a believer in a government-business partnership, which bestows privileges on favored businesses at the expense of workers and consumers. The economic regulations he favored were all backed, and even written and promoted, by the corporate elite, who never supported laissez faire. Historian Gabriel Kolko and others have shown that, as the nineteenth century closed, the American marketplace was vigorously competitive. The large older firms could not protect their market share from upstarts. When mergers failed to stabilize things, the corporate elite turned to government for protection. The result was the Progressive-era "reforms," which had the effect of tamping down competition and sheltering incumbents from challenge. (Read the rest here)

The Ethics of Liberty
Murray N. Rothbard

INTRODUCTION
By Hans-Hermann Hoppe
IN AN AGE OF intellectual hyperspecialization, Murray N. Rothbard was a grand system builder. An economist by profession, Rothbard was the creator of a system of social and political philosophy based on economics and ethics as its cornerstones. For centuries, economics and ethics (political philosophy) had diverged from their common origin into seemingly unrelated intellectual enterprises.

What Does North Korea Want?
To be left alone
by Justin Raimondo

As of this writing, North Korea continues to fire test missiles in a barrage of defiance aimed at the U.S. and its regional allies, belligerently declaring its right to do so and threatening anyone who stands in its way with unspecified "physical" harm. What, one has to wonder, do the rulers of the Hermit Kingdom want?

Our clueless president claims it's hard to read Pyongyang's motives in all this, but that is disingenuous, at best, even for someone who makes a virtue out of his own ignorance. Surely Bush has noticed that there are presently some 30,000 U.S. troops in South Korea, allied with a well-armed South Korean force, facing off against a North Korean army of 700,000.

Libertarian Commentary on the News for the week, including the Forth of July (Day 1, 230th Anno Libertatus [Year of Liberty])

With 230 years of liberty behind us (although many will question just how much of that we've had the last several decades), you would think the news would be better. But sadly, it isn't. This week's column, due to other pressing issues, is very much shorter, but I hope you'll still find it worth reading!

Let's start with some news from the Culture War front:

NY: Top court rules against homo "marriage"
New York Sun
"New York's highest court ruled Thursday that gay marriage is not allowed under state law. The Court of Appeals, in a 4-2 decision, rejected arguments from gay and lesbian plaintiffs that their inability to get marriage licenses in New York violated their constitutional rights. 'It's a sad day for New York families,' said plaintiff Kathy Burke of Schenectady, who is raising an 11-year-old son with her partner, Tonja Alvis. 'My family deserves the same protections as my next door neighbors.'" (07/06/06)

No, all families deserve the same freedom - which does not include the "1984" style of redefining words based on court decisions or activist screams. The best solution? Get the state out of families and the marriage business entirely. (Read the rest here) (Two full pages again!)

LRT Green Ribbon Campaign
The Liberty Round Table is a voluntary organization that advocates freedom for all individuals. Our green ribbon campaign, created by Dave McGraw, was inspired by the highly successful online blue ribbon campaign for freedom of speech. While that is very important, it is more important that individuals come to understand the glory and responsibility of individual freedom, and act to promote it among all peoples.
