Jews For The Preservation of Firearms Ownership
America's Aggressive Civil Rights Organization

JPFO ALERT: CCW Trojan Horse

Supporter Mark recently sent in a link to this blog entry by Andy Barniskis, in which he makes a very reasoned argument against a national conceal carry law.

We already know that we all have a G-D given right to defend our lives. We should NEVER trade it for a revocable state-granted privilege for which you must:

- Pay
- Get registered
- Get photographed
- Get fingerprinted
- And are restricted in its use

Mainstream Moves Toward Freedom
By Lady Liberty

Father's Day has come and gone, but that doesn't mean we should stop honoring good fathers.

Many years ago (never you mind how many), I wanted to get my ears pierced. My mother wasn't keen on the idea. My grandmother, however, was horrified. With a sniff, she informed me that, "Only prostitutes have pierced ears!" Now, while that may have been true once upon a time, it certainly wasn't the case when many of my little girlfriends had pierced ears and I felt like I was the only one who didn't. In the end, I got my ears pierced, and Grandma died (I trust the two events weren't related) still disdaining my jewelry.

The response to the request for pierced ears was positively staid in comparison to my stated desire a couple of years later to get a tattoo. Plenty of words were exchanged, many at high volume, but the gist of them all was, "Only criminals have tattoos!" and "You're getting a tattoo over my dead body!" (Actually, if I'd gone ahead and gotten the tattoo, I'm pretty sure it would have been my dead body, but you get the point.) Eventually - and long after I needed anybody's permission to do so - I did get my first tattoo (of which my parents still disapproved, but when your "child" is pushing 30, grounding him or her is sort of out of the question). Attention, Doctors: Drug-Free Acupressure Technique Relieves Insomnia
From the World Center for EFT

San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) Thirty-two million Americans suffer from chronic insomnia and sleep deprivation. Their search for sleep has made prescription drugs, special mattresses, aromatherapy products, herbs, nutritional supplements, and other strategies popular -- but for most, a good night’s sleep followed by an alert, productive day remains elusive.

Now a simple acupressure technique called EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) is relieving insomnia without drugs or special equipment by addressing its underlying cause. The process can be learned free by downloading the EFT Manual. (Read the rest here)

A Very Fractured Fairy Tale
by Bob Wallace

Here's a story with which everyone is familiar, even unto a four-year-old child: a village is menaced by a dragon, so the hero rides out, slays it and saves the village.

True, it's a simple story, but, in different versions, it's the basis of many stories all over the world. Look at the great Japanese film, The Seven Samuri: the village is menaced by bandits, so the villagers hire samuri to slay the attackers. Village, Dragon, Hero. (Read the rest here)

3rd Political Parties: Unite Constitutionally! Or Be Damned!
By Ed Ward, MD

The 3rd parties, leadership, members and non affiliated citizens, must heed the words of Thomas Jefferson, "...to promote harmony and conciliation, and above all things to let the love of our country soar above all minor passions,...."

The three most likely to be Constitutionally compatible and largest 3rd parties, the Libertarian, Green and Reform Parties all have their conventions set for July of this year. Their speakers are likely set, as well as their individual agendas. Despite significant cooperation between the Libertarian presidential candidate, Badnarik, and the Green presidential candidate, Cobb, in the end game of 2004 election . Enough cooperation to land them both in jail for daring to try and take their rightful places in a presidential debate. Despite needless duplication of minimal precious resources; money, members, media and the simple, basic perception that the party is significant enough to make a difference. Despite surveys which show 53% of citizens that claim they want a new major 3rd party. (Read the rest here)

Congress Rejects UN Taxes
by Congressman Ron Paul - R - TX

Let me ask you a question: Do you think you pay enough taxes? Throughout the year you paid federal taxes through withholding, including Social Security payroll taxes. You also paid state income taxes, unless you’re fortunate enough to live in Texas or another state without an income tax. You paid local property taxes. You paid local sales taxes every time you bought something, and you paid numerous miscellaneous taxes such as vehicle license fees and federal gas taxes. Like most people, you probably feel taxed to death by all these city, county, state, and federal taxes. Well, hold on to your wallets, because the United Nations now wants to impose a whole new level of global taxes on us. (Read the rest here)

Win One for the Gipper (Ayatollah Khameini)
By Ivan Eland

Although on the surface, things have been going well lately for President Bush on Iraq—the killing of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, the installing at long last of a permanent government in Iraq, and a vote of support in the U.S. House of Representatives for the President’s Iraq policy—it is easy to forget that even if the United States wins the war in Iraq, it loses. Even if the Bush administration eventually creates, in the words of the House resolution, a “sovereign, free, secure and united Iraq,” the big winner there will be Iran.

The real driver behind U.S. policy in Iraq still remains murky. It certainly wasn’t to enshrine the will of the people in Iraq. If that were the case, the administration would have agreed to the proposal of some Democrats to set a timetable for the withdrawal of U.S. forces from that country. The president and vice president of Iraq have requested one, and 80 percent of Iraqis want U.S. troops to go home. (Read the rest here)

A Message from Jacob G. Hornberger
by Jacob G. Hornberger

Dear Friend of Freedom:

The ideas and principles expressed in the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution brought into existence the greatest, freest, and most prosperous nation in history. It is to the restoration of those principles of liberty that The Future of Freedom Foundation is committed.

Our country is headed in a bad direction with respect to our rights and freedoms. Under the war on terrorism, the executive branch of the federal government, with the acquiescence of a submissive Congress, now wields the power: (Read the rest here)

VDay: Until The Hysteria Stops
By Carey Roberts

If you happened to take in a Yankees game last week, you probably saw the message flashing on the stadium's giant screen: "Until the Violence Stops: NYC." Next Tuesday you can trot over to Prospect Park and "Run Until the Violence Stops." And the colorful posters dotting the subways constantly remind us to "make New York City the safest place on the earth for girls and women."

What's going on? An invasion of the New Jersey purse-snatchers?

Well, if you haven't heard, Eve Ensler, that nice lady who brought us The Vagina Monologues, decided it wasn't enough to get college girls to ritualistically chant that three-syllable word that starts with a 'V.' "When I started this 10 years ago, no one said the word 'vagina,'" Ensler notes with satisfaction. "Something has shifted in people." (Read the rest here)

Libertarian Commentary on the News, 18 - 24 June 2006 Exclusive to TPOL
Shorter than has been my wont in recent weeks, as home and business events take up a lot of time. If you have news stories that I should include in the commentary, please, send them to TPOL! We want your input. And please remember, these views (and even the selection of news articles) are my own, and don't necessarily reflect those of anyone else at all.

Catalonians to vote on autonomy
Arizona Republic
"Spain abounds in humorous stereotypes: party-loving southerners, street-smart Madrid people and dour, workaholic Catalans. Here, the joke goes, a man asking an attractive female passerby for the time actually wants to know. But things get serious Sunday when semiautonomous Catalonia votes in a referendum offering it even greater autonomy. It is something conservatives fear will gravely wound the Spanish state. The motion, which polls predict will pass easily, includes giving wealthy Catalonia many new rights, including a bigger share of the taxes it collects. Most symbolic, perhaps, is the recognition, in a roundabout way, that Catalonia is a 'nation.' The conservatives worry that with the Basque country already autonomous, giving Catalonia new rights will encourage others to demand the same, putting Spain as they know it on a slippery slope." [FND editor's note: And this is a bad thing ... how? - TLK] (06/17/06)

For those not that familiar with history, Catalonia was NOT a true party to the unification of Leon and Castile that created modern Spain, but was an annexed territory which has a history and existence distinct from the rest of Spain. Like the British, the Spanish had a world-girdling empire created in part based on their experience in imperial conquests much closer to home. As Tom implies, this recognition of Catalonian nationhood is a great thing - just as it was when Navarre was recognized, just as it was when Wales and Scotland started down the path to restored nationhood, and just as it was when Belgium reorganized as a federal union of three separate states. Hopefully, we will see the same thing with Lombardy, Sicily, Brittany, Bayern (Bavaria), and the rest. If we must have a European Union, then let it be of a hundred and not a dozen nations, each as proud and autonomous and stiff-necked as a Canadian province or, hopefully, a Swiss Canton. And then, maybe, we can go back to being a true federal union here in the United States. (Read the rest here) (Two full pages again!)

LRT Green Ribbon Campaign
The Liberty Round Table is a voluntary organization that advocates freedom for all individuals. Our green ribbon campaign, created by Dave McGraw, was inspired by the highly successful online blue ribbon campaign for freedom of speech. While that is very important, it is more important that individuals come to understand the glory and responsibility of individual freedom, and act to promote it among all peoples.
