When You Send Them Into The Jaws Of Hell,
Don't Be Surprised At What They Do

By Michael Gaddy

Almost everywhere on the Internet, TV and in the newspapers, all you hear and see is the story of the Marines and the unfolding events that occurred in Haditha, Iraq in November 2005. If you couple that with the killing of the pregnant Iraqi woman and her cousin, suddenly the actions of our military come under intense scrutiny. Please do not mistake my intent in this piece. I do not condone the killing of anyone, but, before we place the blame for these actions on soldiers sent into hell by liars, please try to understand how these events might have occurred.

Ironic, is it not, now that these events have come to light, those in leadership in the Department of Defense have ordered ethics training for our soldiers in Iraq. Would it not be more appropriate to order ethics training for those who lied us into this war? (Read the rest here)

RKABA News from JFPO!
BATFE Raids KT Ordnance!

Yesterday (06/08) we received word that KT Ordnance, manufacturer of incomplete (80%-finished) frames, was raided for the alleged "illegal manufacture of firearms." KT Ordnance has been a great asset to those who wish to purchase unfinished receivers with which to anonymously manufacture their own firearms -- a perfectly legal process, according to the BATFE website. "The 21st Century geo-political polarization of America--
Or, Why I Am Moving to Wyoming!"
by Kenneth Royce - Boston T Party

I'd like to begin this talk to you today with a few words about... my Grandmother. Not that she has won some kind of prestigious award, or is renowned for some great achievement. She is a pretty typical elderly woman in her late 80s, but ironically this would seem to make her story unusual.

My elderly grandmother has been required, since 2000, to have her Social Security Number on her driver's license. Why must she give a formerly private federal number on state documents as a national identifier? Because of the so-called "Deadbeat Dads Database" legislation which alleges to track fathers who are behind on their child-support payments. (Read the rest here)

Immigration Solved: Short & Sweet
By L. Reichard White

According to U.S.Comptroller of the Currency David Walker, these unfunded liabilities, together with the record trade deficits, record federal budget deficits, lack of savings, etc. amount to a 'fiscal hurricane' that will generate a "debt tsunami" which will overtake and swamp the U.S. Government and citizens alike.

In other words Uncle Sam is telling the world, "I know I'm gonna have to come up with at least $44 trillion - - - but I don't know how." And in the mean time, we have all those congressional Einsteins arguing over how hard they're going to make it for undocumented folks to become tax-paying U.S. citizens??? (Read the rest here)

Lying Down on the Job
By Lady Liberty

Take a look at any self-help program, and you'll find the following right up front: You can't get better until you, yourself, admit that you have a problem. For all intents and purposes, that's accurate. But I contend that, for successful change, there's something else that comes both before and after that: the truth.

I have a friend who is a recovering alcoholic. Obviously, she long ago admitted she has a problem with alcohol. But to do that, and to then recover with any success whatsoever, she also couldn't lie. She couldn't lie to others without the danger of sabotaging her efforts, but even more importantly, she couldn't undermine her resolve and later her progress by lying to herself. Pretense under such circumstances leads directly to failure. (Read the rest here)

Iranian Nukes: U.S. Denial of Reality
By Ivan Eland

The Bush administration is congratulating itself on finally agreeing to direct talks with Iran about Iran’s nuclear program. This smugness shows just how out of touch with reality the administration has become. The United States and the Europeans joining together to negotiate with Iran merely mirrors the multilateral approach already taken many years ago with North Korea. Unfortunately, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice combined the offer with a blunt and arrogant pronouncement that Iran had a choice between two paths—cooperation or confrontation with the international community.

The Iranians fired back by threatening to disrupt oil supplies if attacked. The Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran’s leader, said, “If the Americans make a wrong move toward Iran, the shipment of energy will definitely face danger, and the Americans would not be able to protect energy supply in the region.” (Read the rest here)

Iraqi Death by Political Abstraction
by Sheldon Richman

Try as they might, apologists for the war in Iraq won't be convincing when they insist that, at worst, the Haditha "incident" (or was it a mishap?) was the unfortunate work of a few bad Marines. It was something much worse.

When men trained to kill on a battlefield -- this wasn't the Salvation Army, after all -- are ordered into civilian areas where many residents see the troops as an occupying force rather than as liberators, what would you expect to happen? We hear war defenders complain that "the enemy" doesn't identify itself. Why should it? In the eyes of the "insurgents" they are resisting an army of occupation. That Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld didn't foresee this resistance doesn't mean it was unforeseeable. (Read the rest here)

Is Feminism A Mental Disorder?
By Carey Roberts

Peer into the dark heart of radical feminism, and you'll get a glimpse of a seething caldron of delusion, phobia, and paranoia.

Visit the N.O.W. website and you'll see dark warnings that "women are still not receiving equal pay for equal work." Things are even worse at the National Abortion Rights League, which alerts us that President Bush "has waged a tireless war on women's reproductive rights and personal privacy."

But the greatest feminist boogeyman is domestic violence. No other issue so propels the luna-chicks into a wailing convulsion of breast-beating and hair-pulling. (Read the rest here)

1040 Checkmate? DOJ Dismisses Felony Tax Prosecution
-- With Prejudice -- After PRA Defense Raised

On May 12, 2006 in Peoria, Illinois, the attorney for the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) begged the court to dismiss all charges against IRS victim Robert Lawrence in federal District Court.

The motion for dismissal came on the heels of a surprise tactic by Lawrence’s defense attorney Oscar Stilley.

The tactic threatened exposure of IRS’s on-going efforts to defraud the public. The move put DOJ attorneys in a state of panic that left them with only one alternative: beg for dismissal, with prejudice. (Read the rest here) (Use back button to return to The Price of Liberty)

Gun law expert urges American firearm owners in Catholic Church to send Vatican tough self-defense life message

In about a month, just before the Fourth of July celebration of American Independence Day, the Catholic Bishops in the United States plan to ask Catholic parishioners for contributions to the Peter’s Pence collection, a special annual solicitation to support the Vatican. The Vatican observer to the United Nations, Archbishop Celestino Migliore, is an outspoken supporter of a UN Program of Action for international gun control. If adopted and implemented, this Program would undermine the individual Second Amendment civil right of law-abiding American citizens to keep and bear arms for defense of life and other legitimate purposes. Libertarian Commentary on the News, 4-10 June 2006 Exclusive to TPOL

"How long, oh Lord?" So the ancient prophets prayed, seeking freedom from tyranny - often tyranny which was the result of the foolish actions of the very people who groaned under the tyrant's boot. We are in much the same situation today, as far as our liberty is concerned. This week's stories remind us of that, and also of the fact that "this too shall pass." IF we work to that goal - striving for and enjoying the great gift of liberty that should be the heritage of every human.

Culture Wars
As has been my wont in recent weeks, I start out with news related to the Culture Wars.

Things heated up this week in the American Culture Wars, with the GOP seeking to remind people that the Democratic Party is busy tearing down our entire society to rebuild in their own image. (Not that the GOP isn't - but they have different end-goals.) More than ever we see the dangers of letting government have too much power - they seek to get more and more control over everything, from families to flags. Warning: I have a long diatribe in this section, so be prepared to be angered!

Let doctors kill without consent, says expert
BBC News
A former professor of medical ethics has called for all forms of euthanasia to be legalised. Len Doyal, ex-member of the British Medical Association's ethics committee, said doctor-assisted deaths did take place and should be better regulated. He said the law should be changed to enable doctors to withdraw treatment even if patients cannot consent. "Doctors may not want to admit this and couch their decision in terms such as 'alleviating suffering' but withdrawal of life sustaining treatment from severely incompetent patients is morally equivalent to active euthanasia," he stated.

In other words, as with a lot of other things - "we can't stop it, so lets make it legal." If we were talking about "victimless crimes" where people are doing stupid things to themselves, I'd agree. When it is so doctors or medicrats can kill off patients that are too much trouble or too expensive or too unpleasant, well, something else is needed. (Read the rest here) (Two full pages again!)

LRT Green Ribbon Campaign
The Liberty Round Table is a voluntary organization that advocates freedom for all individuals. Our green ribbon campaign, created by Dave McGraw, was inspired by the highly successful online blue ribbon campaign for freedom of speech. While that is very important, it is more important that individuals come to understand the glory and responsibility of individual freedom, and act to promote it among all peoples.
