September 12 through 18, 2005
It's impossible to turn on the television, read a newspaper, or visit an Internet news portal without seeing myriad photos and stories about the disaster that is America's Gulf Coast in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. New Orleans has, in large part, been obliterated. So, too, have smaller and less famous towns in Louisiana and Mississippi. The cost in material goods and property is staggering; the cost in human lives is even more so. People in those areas affected by the storm are clamoring for aid and complaining they're receiving too little too late. There is more than a little truth to their contention that help has been delayed or, in some cases, denied all together. Some, including politicians in Louisiana, are chastising the federal government for its inept rescue efforts. But who is really to blame? I personally only experienced a small piece of Hurricane Katrina as she blew herself out over a sizable portion of the rest of the eastern and midwestern US, but my own little trauma serves to illustrate one of the two things that's really wrong with our handling of this natural catastrophe. No Evil, Say No Evil At The UN Press Corps Have you ever wondered why much of the daily media coverage about the United Nations reads more like a feel-good press release than a hard-hitting news story? The answer is easy - just pay a visit to the website of the United Nations Correspondents Association, the UNCA. There you'll see a gaggle of reporters grinning ear-to-ear, hob-nobbing with none other than UN secretary general Kofi Annan. Life is good when you're on a first-name basis with the S.G. himself. Go through the UNCA's Calendar of Events for this past year, and you can't help but notice the Leftist bias. In February socialist Noam Chomsky came to town to enlighten the reporters about his latest book, "Hegemony or Survival: America's Quest for Global Dominance." (Read the rest here)

Orleans Looks Like Iraq Is God trying to tell us something? Is the Supreme Being out to show us that He can do more damage than Osama Been Forgotten? Is He telling us that natural disasters should be occupying our time, talents, and resources instead of senseless invasions, occupations, and the expansion of a Military Empire? Now that the nitwits of CNNs Hurricane Headquarters have left their comedic posts standing in the face of hundred mph winds and driving rain to show people with electricity the wonders of a powerful hurricane that somehow they can withstand while others should evacuate or hunker down, the sober tragedy of the aftermath is being covered in frightening and tragic detail, mostly by other reporters. And it still isnt the peak of this years hurricane season. (Read the rest here)

Again, the post-Katrina mess takes the right of front place in our news for the past few days. Gulf War Three Military
Refuses To Enforce Evacuation Order Great news! I am once again vindicated by some of my comrades in arms: they are unwilling to take away the freedoms of others for the sake of corrupt politicians - honoring a constitution, which if flawed, is still better than anything else on the planet today. Mama's Note: Unfortunately, this may not be reflected in the reality. There are many other stories about people being disarmed and then "escorted" out of their homes by National Guard and other military organization people. It will be interesting to see if the Federal troops will maintain this position. (Read the rest here)
