Steal-As-You-Go, The Self-Perpetuating Fraud
By Ed Henry

Every year, the trustees and others tell us that the Social Security trust fund will sustain the supplemental retirement system a bit longer. Just a while ago it was predicted to last until 2034, then it was 2036, then 2038, and now it’s up to 2042 while the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) claims the trust will last until 2052. Soon it will be even further into the Matrix.

How is this possible? How can so many great minds continuously revise their long range estimates? It’s almost as though politicians, bureaucrats, and think tanks have done what science failed to do. They’ve devised a perpetual motion machine that just keeps going and going. And worst of all, the public believes this fantasy. (Read the rest here)

Return to Radicalism
By Jeff Adams

When looking back at history, it is always important to attempt to put one self in the time frame being looked at. We must put issues and events in the context of their time or we risk not truly understanding the cause and effect of events. Our understanding of a particular time is skewed when merely looking back through 21st century eyes.

Take for instance looking at the American colonialists and their rebellion against Great Britain. By today's standards, on the surface, their ideas and attitudes concerning government, representation, liberty and individualism don't sound all that radical. After all, most of us grew up hearing stories of the colonists, and those stories were presented in a positive light. However, when put in the context of their time, the ring leaders were espousing ideas that were considered pretty radical at the time. The colonial rebels weren't just rebels, they were considered fanatical radicals. (Read the rest here)

Libertarian Commentary on The News

Brought to you by Pork-out, the surefire cure for excessive government spending. Special versions available, based on location - international versions available as well (please remember that international versions cannot be delivered to minors or government post office boxes). Write via this publication.

On to the news and commentary: emphasis on the "common" today - common sense, common good, common problems faced around the world. These views are my own, not necessarily those of anyone else associated with anything or anyone!

GOOD NEWS!

Congress passes Paul amendment to reject UN taxes
Sierra Times
"The US House of Representatives [Thursday] unanimously passed legislation introduced by Congressman Ron Paul that ensures no Americans will be forced to pay taxes to the United Nations. Under Paul's amendment to a State Department funding bill, no US taxpayer dollars may be used to develop, implement, or impose any tax on American citizens to raise revenue for the UN. 'The UN continues to build the foundation for global government, and a worldwide tax is the key to their entire agenda,' Paul stated. 'This is not hyperbole -- in fact, the UN's own website is quite open about the organization's ambitions. The UN has established a system of international laws and international courts; now it needs an enforcement mechanism in the form of an international army. If UN bureaucrats succeed in creating a worldwide tax, they will become totally unaccountable to national governments and their citizens.'"

I am so used to hearing Dr. Paul's legislative efforts have been defeated that I thought this came from the Onion at first (satire). But it seems to be true, and for once (somehow - a miracle?) everyone agreed? Or will it get taken out during conference?

Mama's Note: There are a number of other UN nasty tricks in the works, and it will be very difficult to stop them. This is indeed good news, and I hope Dr. Paul can have the same success with other measures to guard what little we have left of our liberty. (Read the rest here)
