Sunday is Fathers' Day; added kind of as an afterthought to May's Mothers' Day (Mothering Sunday in British sectors), it is intended to honor our fathers. It is always a good time to think about the importance of fatherhood, and who IS a father and is not. Recent articles on Fathers' Day, a barrage of advertising for "Gifts for Dad", and Walt Williams' column on last month's "Click-it or Ticket" campaign all led me to this column of general thoughts, to share with other libertarian friends and readers. Libertarians
need dads, too, you know. My own father, though not truly a libertarian
himself (perhaps a 70-70 libertarian on
the Nolan chart) was one of the major reasons I am a lover of
liberty today: he taught me to appreciate it and fight for it, and
taught me how our ancestors had done the same, and that he expected
future generations to do likewise. (Read

Conspiracy
Reality: War The most intolerable and exasperating comment heard offers: "I don't believe in conspiracy theories!" And that's just fine with all the conspirators! Support our troops, shut up and stop thinking, wave your stupid little flags, and make sure to watch your "Seinfeld" re-runs and "Everybody Loves Raymond!" What's that? "Raymond" just went off the air? Sorry, I don't watch television. Are
these pompous, arrogant, highly-educated and articulate elitists familiar
with either the Nazi or Communist Parties? Have they ever heard of
FDR's cabal of communist advisors who maneuvered him into starting
World War II by setting up our Navy at Pearl Harbor in 1941? Are they
not aware that the Nazi's were started by a wallpaper hanger and untalented
"artist" and a small gang of beer hall thugs? Look what
that tiny gang of conspirators brought forth!

The need for some kind of organized society can be met through the marketplace - through voluntary actions (or at least actions constrained voluntarily in order to further one's own self interest). Just as the natural universe seems to have established a (relatively) stable order without the benefit of the UN General Assembly, the United States Congress, or the EU Parliament - much to the chagrin of statists! And a state, a nation-state, can exist without what we normally think of as government. In fact, many states have done so, over periods of hundreds of years. And will, in my opinion, if no one else's, do so again. One thing is for sure, as today's articles remind us: it would hard to do as poor a job as traditional government has. Science and Technology News Oceans
will Solve Global Warming Another interesting fact to add to the way the Earth's entire system has "evolved" (yeah, right) to be self-sustaining and able to deal with fairly major changes on the surface. And another datum to add to the continuing debate on environmental impact of human activities, including the global warming brouhaha. This may very well weaken British PM Tony Blair's effort to woo US Prez Bush II to the dark side, as well. Mama's Note: It is fairly obvious that any small increase in either warmth or CO2, or both, will encourage more plant and tree growth which will absorb any excess CO2. I'm looking forward to it. Somehow the earth managed to run itself without government control of the weather for a lot of years, and I suspect it can continue to do so for as long as people remain. We are in far more danger of killing each other with weapons of war and hate than the internal combustion engine or other such things. (Read the rest here)
