A while back I was visiting my in-laws in Waco, TX. One morning I got up early and was reading the morning paper and saw an interesting opinion piece on the editorial page. It was by a local woman and she was carrying on about how American history was actually a history of ‘progressives.'

Basically, this was a liberal who was trying to make herself, and other liberals in the area, feel better since Republicans seem to be dominating elective offices on the national level right now, not to mention taking over in the South as a whole. Liberals like to call themselves ‘progressives' now since the term ‘liberal' has taken on such a bad connotation. That's what liberals do: constantly repackage themselves and their ideas to keep fooling the public with their failed ideology. After all, a ‘classic liberal' is really an Old Right conservative, whereas a modern liberal is really a socialist.

Anyway, this woman went on to declare that ‘progressives' are responsible for any positive thing that's ever happened in America. She even went so far as to declare that the U.S. wouldn't have even existed if not for ‘progressives,' claiming conservatives would have still been faithful to England. In addition, she went on to declare that it was ‘progressives' that deserved credit for ‘freedom of religion' (and in her view, specifically freedom from religion), implementation of child labor laws, work environment safety laws, the banning of DDT, environmental laws, endangered species acts, and laughingly she claims credit for progressives the creation of public schools (as if this was a good thing).

This is a perfect example of how deluded liberals are, not to mention a damning indictment of our education system, assuming this woman is educated (and the only place she could have been so grossly misinformed is at one of our public education establishments).

America is one of the most, if not the most, conservative lands of those countries associated with Western Christian Civilization. Its history is, if anything, a history of conservatism. It was conservative, status quo colonists that spurred resistance to, and eventual independence from England. Colonists wanted to maintain their self-governing, low taxed way of life (sounds conservative doesn't it?). It was resistance to a high-taxing, remote, centrally controlled government (a ‘progressive's' dream government) that created the United States.

As for the ‘freedom of religion' bit this lady brought up, the pilgrims, along with a number of other religious groups, came to America to ‘get back to basics' and practice what they considered ‘the true faith,' leaving behind the government dominated churches of their homelands. This isn't a ‘progressive' idea, as liberals would think. The people who settle in America first, along the east coast, were in many ways fundamentalist Christians who rejected ‘progressive' man-controlled religion (‘religion' meaning Christianity). ‘Progressives' think the ACLU forcing the government to control religion, or the expression of religion, is how things should work. ‘Progressives' want to re-establish church-state relations as they existed in the old world (government controlled religion), or worse abolish religion (actually just Christianity, the faith of the people that established the United States).

Concerning issues such as child labor laws and safe work environments, this ‘progressive' ignores the efforts and influences of conservative Christians and their compassion for people (one of the fruits of their faith). As for claiming credit for the elimination of DDT; I'll give the ‘progressives' that one. However, this isn't a positive. Studies show that DDT was not the environmental threat claimed (more scare mongering by liberals). Due to ‘progressive' efforts, the world-wide banning of DDT ensured the deaths of tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, each year because of disease. Without DDT, the most effective insect eliminator, people around the world suffer. And ‘progressives' are proud of this? Oh, that's right, ‘progressives' include enviro-wackos that think man should be eliminated so as to protect nature (so supporting the ban on DDT is only natural).

The environmental laws have gone to extremes and have proven costly to businesses and tax payers alike. The returns have been minimal and ignore the earth's ability to ‘clean' itself of pollutants. The endangered species acts ‘progressives' advocate ignore nature's laws concerning survival of various species (don't these ‘progressive' non-religionists believe in Darwinism, which declares survival of the fittest? In truth, they are interfering with the natural elimination of species that can't hack it on their own. They actions contradict their stated beliefs). Public schools are like the banning of DDT in that only a fool would claim credit for them. The ‘progressive' dumbing down of our youth is sure to help lead to our destruction, not raise people up. How is bringing everyone down to the lowest common denominator, educationally, a positive achievement?

I did notice this lady ‘progressive' took credit for women having the right to decide how many children they wanted. A nice way of saying ‘progressives' have advocated, and succeeded in implementing, the whole sale slaughter of children by the millions each year before these little innocent children can ever get out of their mother's wombs, thereby promoting the devaluation of human life. I have to ask again: And they are proud of this?

Rather than touting ‘progressive' ‘successes,' this lady should have been declaring her public apology for the uninformed, misguided actions of her kind. I have no doubt that liberals/progressives will continue to advocate their version of history, as twisted, illogical, and as uninformed as it is. The facts don't support their views, but liberals never let facts get in their way.

For those that want to examine an honest assessment of certain aspects of our history that either get ignored or are grossly distorted, I would suggest getting a copy of Dr. Thomas Woods Jr.'s book ‘The Politically Incorrect Guide to American History.'
