The Minuteman Project in Arizona has gotten a lot of attention in the time it has been functioning in April. President Bush has made himself look stupid by calling dedicated citizens ‘vigilantes.’ Congress has made itself look incompetent and impotent by not addressing the concerns of the people that elected them, while unelected, patriotic citizens take care of defending our security and sovereignty (without the six-figure salary elected officials in D.C. get). The socialist ‘mainstream’ media hates this group of American heroes. The Mexican government wants everyone who is taking part in defending our borders through the Minuteman Project locked up. I’d call the Minuteman Project a resounding success.

Things went so well, that the organizers of the Minuteman Project say they are planning to expand their efforts to all four states that border Mexico. The Mexican government is on the verge of having an outright spasm over this. Good! The problem with the Mexican government is they aren’t getting their way; American citizens have quit taking their abuse and illegal activity lying down; and the solution to our problems is starting to take shape and become an effective tool for thwarting the goals of Mexican officials (whether you believe it to be dumping their poor on us, bleeding us dry by their citizens shipping money back to Mexico, ‘recapturing’ land they literally lost to us in a war [and were paid for by the way], or merging the U.S. and Mexico).

Some Mexican officials think they can go to our courts or to international courts and sue the people who took part in the Minuteman Project. I guess they can, but they won’t get very far. First off, in America it is not just the right, but the duty of every citizen to report a crime. Think not? People have been fined for leaving the scene of an accident even when they weren’t involved (they are witnesses). People have been charged and found guilty of failure to lend aid when they have witnessed someone assaulted and do not step in. We, as citizens in America, have the right to execute a citizen’s arrest. Mind you, you best be right or you could find yourself in trouble for felonious assault.

Think of it this way: If I’m walking down the street and see a man in a store and he is robbing the store, what should I do? First off, if I don’t think I can take him, or if he’s got a gun, the smart thing to do is not attack the guy. Make mental notes of what he’s wearing, how tall is he, what color is he, etc. I’d get on my cell phone and call 911 while making these mental notes (after all, the police are trained and paid to handle these matters). Assisting by calling authorities, giving a description of the criminal and what direction he might have headed off in (and if he was on foot or car, what kind of car, etc.), and any other information I could provide to assist in apprehending this violator of our laws is doing the minimum as far as my responsibilities as a citizen.

This is exactly what the Minutemen in Arizona are doing. They are ‘spotters’ taking note of criminals violating our laws, calling the authorities and pointing them in the direction these violators of our laws have gone. They are model citizens doing the minimum required of them. I can’t say the same for the ACLU reps that went to Arizona and acted as accomplices of the law breakers, waving illegals off from where the Minutemen were stationed, blowing horns, etc. Oh, and let’s not forget the pictures on the internet of the ACLU reps sitting on the side of the road smoking pot. Yeah, the ACLU is a real class act.

The Minutemen have raised the profile of the illegal immigration issue, and the fact that defense of our borders and our sovereignty can be handled in a simple, direct fashion. The fact that the government is incapable of addressing, or more truthfully, unwilling to address, this issue has been highlighted in a most effective way. One thing’s for sure, we don’t need an idiotic ‘Homeland Security’ branch of the federal government to drain us of more of our hard earned money.

We have the National Guard. We have the Border Patrol. We have the Coast Guard. They can handle the job if properly manned and financially supported. Obliterate Homeland Security and give the Guard, Border Patrol and Coast Guard the go ahead to do their jobs fully and we won’t have an immigration problem. Until this happens, it will be up to the citizens to take matters into their own hands.

The Minutemen have shown that citizens can take back their country. Beyond assisting in the expansion of the Minutemen activities to all four states bordering Mexico, everyone needs to remember the elected representatives (at the state and federal level) that have either failed to respond to this threat to our security and sovereignty, or act as accomplices to these criminals invading our land, and vote them out of office at the next election. As for me, I’ve already notified the Minutemen that when they set up shop in Texas I’ll be ready to do a tour of duty with them. As good ol’ G.W.B. would say, “Let’s Roll!”

Editor's note: I don't know if Bush ever said that or not, but I believe it was originally attributed to someone supposedly on the downed aircraft that didn't hit a building on 9-11. I'd leave Bush out if it myself. He's no friend to liberty.
