April 27, 2005 After a brief flirtation with compassionate conservatism, Hillary Rodham Clinton has returned to her neo-Marxist ways. On April 19 Senator Clinton introduced the so-called Paycheck Fairness Act, a law that would pressure employers to fatten women's paychecks, regardless of the number of hours worked or job qualifications. The former Soviet Union once tried to divorce job productivity from wages. Of course, that removed persons' incentive for hard work, and economic mayhem was the result. But Hillary is a lawyer, not a historian. By interesting coincidence, Sen. Clinton's bill was introduced the very same day that, half-way around the globe, Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger was elected as the new pope. Within hours he assumed the name Benedict XVI. Republican
Leadership Seeks To Ensconce Judicial Tyranny
Speaking to church groups around the country, Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist tried to rally support for President Bush's judicial nominees. In so doing, Frist promoted his intention to change Senate rules in order to prevent Democrats from using filibusters to delay Senate votes on presidential nominees. Several elements of this story are very disturbing. First, it is now painfully obvious that the Republican Party considers evangelical churches mere partisan political pawns. Instead of receiving her message and mission from Christ and the Scriptures, many churches apparently now receive their marching orders from the Republican Party. Reid work on judge approval deal "In private talks with Majority Leader Bill Frist, the Senate's top Democrat has indicated a willingness to allow confirmation of two of President Bush's seven controversial appeals court nominees, but only as part of a broader compromise requiring Republicans to abandon threats to ban judicial filibusters, officials said Monday. At the same time he floats the possibility of clearing two nominees to the 6th Circuit Court of Appeals for approval, officials said Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., wants a third appointee to the same circuit to be replaced by an alternative who is preferred by Michigan's two Democratic senators." (04/25/05) I don't know which is worse, judicial manipulation by the executive branch or the political parties. Both will surely give us more and more judges with a political agenda instead of an impartial zeal for justice. None of the "checks and balances" will work when none of the participants have any interest in either checks or balance, but only gaining as much of their own advantage as possible.
