April 25, 2005 Is Bush beginning to weaken on his idea for personal or ownership accounts for younger workers? Perhaps. His echo chamber speeches in sixty cities are not getting the media attention needed in order to be successful. Playfully delivering the same canned speech over and over before a selected audience of supporters may have finally driven him to waving one of the Parkersburg Papers in the air and calling the holdings of the Social Security trust funds worthless. This last minute truthfulness may have been his final shot. The Washington Post reports that Bush may now be thinking of turning the battle over to a panel of bipartisan politicians to come up with better solutions. 11 dead as missile downs helicopter "Six American civilians [sic] were among 11 people killed Thursday when their helicopter was downed north of Baghdad, apparently by hostile fire. The helicopter's three-man Bulgarian crew and two security guards from an unnamed country were also killed, as Iraq's revitalized insurgency claimed another high-profile success after weeks of reduced activity. The Americans were contracted to the private security firm Blackwater Security Consulting, and the Russian-made Mi-8 helicopter was operated by a civilian Bulgarian charter company, Heli Air. It was traveling to Tikrit from Baghdad when it was brought down at 1:45 p.m. local time about 12 miles north of the capital, near the insurgent stronghold of Tarmiya, U.S. officials said. ... In a separate incident, the company said, another Blackwater employee was killed when a bomb exploded beside his armored personnel carrier in the town of Ramadi." (04/22/05) Just how long will we allow this slaughter to continue? How many more of our children and spouses must we lose before we finally accept the truth that this "war" has nothing to do with our liberty or "national security", and is just plain wrong on every point.
