March 25, 2005 I sang at the funeral of a sister in the church today, an old and wise lady, full of years (she died at 81), who had suffered from many illnesses in the last five years, but died surrounded by the love of her family and friends, at home, knowing she was going Home and confident of her fate. Shed had to take medicines, many treatments, and yes, shed been on oxygen, had to eat special food, and had to be cared for in many ways. Death is something that comes to all of us. Every day the news is filled with reports of people dying, or being killed. Sometimes it is a person in the middle of committing violent aggression against someone, and while it is sad that a person has to die, it is far better that the aggressor be killed than their intended victim, whether it is a jewel thief attacking a courier, a drunk invading a home, a bunch of freedom-fighter thugs shooting up passers-by on an Iraqi street, or some kind of govgoon. But it is still not good, not the preferred way to deal with violence and aggression, and we must recognize that is the case. (Read the rest here)
The
Ghosts of Nuremberg Only a small percentage of Americans would still be able to remember, with any clarity, the trials in Nuremberg, Germany at the close of WWII. The civilized world, led by the United States, moved quickly to bring the criminals of WWII to trial. With America resorting to an aggressive war against Iraq, the ghosts of Nuremberg must surely be stirring about. There was a time in this country when the Golden Rule actually had meaning. We were quick to criticize those who would attack another sovereign nation without provocation. We used to call those who were attacked and were fighting to defend their country from such aggression, freedom fighters, or at least rebels. Now that we are the aggressor nation, those labels have been changed to "insurgents, militants" or "dead-enders," but that was before God started dictating our foreign policy, using George W. Bush as his spokesperson. It sure changes things when "the big guy" is on your side. I really cannot see why Bush and company bothered with all those lies about WMDs and al-Qaeda connections. Perhaps the democrats would not accept divine intervention. (Read the rest here)

parents lose appeal to US Supreme Court I now better now how Octavian felt - seeing the Senate refuse to take responsibility, and having to do something to keep the country from going down the tubes immediately. If someone does take matters into their own hands, they will be seen as "overturning the rule of law" even if it is a corrupt system and needs to be overturned. (Read the rest of the commentary here)
