March 24, 2005 If you're looking for a paragon of female virtue, don't waste your time in Chappaqua, New York. Of all American politicians, there is no one who is more ethically-challenged or morally-tainted than Hillary Rodham Clinton. Do a Google search on "Hillary Clinton" and "scandal," and your computer's memory chip will choke, gag, and cough. Here's just a partial list to wet your whistle: -- 1978: Parlayed a $1,000 investment in cattle futures into a sizzling $100,000 profit. -- 1985: Accepted a $2,000 a month retainer from Madison Guaranty, a fact she later tried to deny. -- 1993: Ousted the White House travel office and replaced it with World Wide Travel, Clinton's source of $1 million in fly-now-pay-later campaign trips. Rule
of Law Damaged by Schiavo Law The events surrounding the life of Terri Schiavo are tragic enough. Now congressional Republicans and President Bush have made things worse. In one weekend they disabled federalism, the separation of powers, and the rule of law. These principles were embraced by the Founding Fathers because they tend to protect individual liberty. By tearing them down, the Republican leadership jeopardizes our freedom. How ironic that this comes at the hands of the self-proclaimed party of limited government. It is beyond dispute that the legal issues involved in the Schiavo case are state issues. That has been the rule for more than 200 years. It is what has made the American system a federal system. The point of federalism is to decentralize power, and its rationale is that concentrated power is dangerous always and everywhere regardless of which political party rules. (Read the rest here)
Lawyer's
Advice - No Charge Read this and make a copy for your files in case you need to refer to it someday. Maybe we should all take some of his advice! A corporate attorney sent the following out to the employees in his company. 1. The next time you order checks, have only your initials (instead of first name) and last name put on them. If someone takes your checkbook, they will not know if you sign your checks with just your initials or your first name, but your bank will know how you sign your checks. 2. Do not sign the back of your credit cards. Instead, put "PHOTO ID REQUIRED". (Read the rest here)
Libertarian
Commentary on The News How many ways can government (and the statists that support it) mess up our lives? Perhaps the greatest danger is the idea that government can do something that it really can't, like protect people in a church meeting in Wisconsin, or protect students in a reservation school in Minnesota, or protect Baghdad shopkeepers - all in the news in recent days. Government has demonstrated that it is the best at just two things: spending money, and abusing people (including killing them). At least that is my opinion, not necessarily anyone else's. DHS
Secretary: US Gov cannot protect American public Truth for once! No, this isn't news that was reported by the mainstream press, and I felt the best place was to go directly to the source. In other words, we must protect ourselves, and stop depending on (and financing with the big bucks) attempts of government agencies to do so. Although I will certainly disagree with Chertoff about the "essential role" that DHS and the other myriad of government agencies must play (private businesses and voluntary organizations, privately financed, could replace DHS and do a far more efficient job of coordinating our defense, especially when coupled with a proper downsizing (and reduction of mission and area of operations) of DoD), I certainly agree that the government CANNOT protect us from all possible threats.
