Minding Your Own Business
by Bob Wallace

I have this theory. I have lots of theories, most of which don't make much sense even to me, but I have this one theory in particular that most of the trouble in the world is caused by people not minding their own business.

When people stick their noses in other people's business, it's because they think they are right and the other people are wrong. Specifically, what they do is blame their problems on other people. It's the flip side of the same coin: not minding your own business always involves blaming your problems on other people. It reminds me of the old saying about people ignoring the log in their eye while obsessing about the speck in someone else's.

Everyone in the world wants to blame their problems on others. It's the first thing children do. It's been noticed in the story of the Garden of Eden, which is who knows how many thousands of years old. It just might be the first defense that everyone engages in. (Read the rest here)

Jihad for Jesus: Faith-Based Imperialism
By Doug Newman

Can fundamentalist Muslims take over the world?

As we enter the twenty-first century, are we witnessing an apocalyptic clash of civilizations?

The answer to both questions is NO.

Recently, I was feeling rather wonkish, and I compiled some data on the economic and military might of the United States relative to that of the Arab and Muslim world. The results were astounding. (Read the rest here)

Living In America 2029, A Workers Paradise
By Emiliano Antunez

Karen Johnson looks closely at the computer screen in front of her. It's hard to make out the images since her employer (a major fast food chain) has not replaced the equipment in her drive through window for over ten years. Karen is fortunate by comparison. Her coworkers in the kitchen area have to deal with fryer's, microwaves, ovens and broilers that are close to twenty years old. With all these difficulties, an average order takes fifteen minutes to complete and customer's complaints are endless. But even those toiling in the hot kitchen are thankful for their jobs, especially considering the unemployment rate has just climbed to over 25 percent. (Short story) (Read the rest here)

Libertarian Commentary on The News
By Nathan A. Barton © 2004

Today was NOT a day for good news, nothing really bad, but just dismal and depressing for the cause of liberty. But I found at least one item to start off with! Sadly, mostly we have bad news, today, at least in my opinion (not necessarily yours or anyone else's, including TPoL, FND, RRND, or the mainstream media).

Arizona: Gun enthusiasts push public school training
East Valley Tribune
"Gun-rights advocates say they have the answer to Jonathan's problem. They want public schools to teach students how to use shotguns and rifles. With the help of Arizona Game and Fish officials, firearms enthusiasts have been quietly shepherding a bill through the Legislature that would encourage schools to offer a semesterlong elective, combining the use of laser replicas on campus and field trips to shooting ranges. Landis Aden, a lobbyist for the Arizona State Rifle and Pistol Association, said the class would teach children safe ways to deal with the kinds of weapons he says are found in up to half of Arizona households." (03/08/05)

Good for them!!!

Mama's Note: Better than nothing. The parents of these children should be doing that teaching, from the moment a child is old enough to pick up that much weight. It's almost impossible to start that teaching too early. (Read the rest of the Commentary here)
