Libertarian Commentary on The News

Well! We start out with good news today, as follow-up to one of those all-too-common and depressing news stories of jack-booted thugs abusing women, children, yes, and even men. In at least one southern state, such a goon has gotten his comeuppance! Thankfully! At least, that's my opinion, if not necessarily that of anyone else.

Abusive cop fired - charges dropped

Not only have the charges against a South Carolina teenage boy and a homeschooling mother stemming from a confrontation with a plainclothes police officer been dropped, but the officer involved has been fired. The two were arrested - the boy for carrying a concealed weapon and the mother for assaulting a police officer - after the cop confronted the boy in a picnic shelter where a homeschool support group had gathered for socializing and play.

Supposedly, one of the things which helped the American West overcome the widespread lawlessness was when local peace officers were able to communicate readily back and forth to spread the word about who the bad element was, what they looked like, and what they did. A similar situation has developed in recent years with the documentation on sex offenders. Today, we find ourselves in a similar fix, and the law enforcement community isn't going to police themselves, as they've demonstrated time after time. This "investigator" has been fired from one town's force for his abuses and cruelty - but he will likely be able to get another job somewhere else as a cop. It is time to start posting and spreading the word on former jackbooted thugs, so that before they can do more damage in a new community, they can be identified and hopefully, not hired in the first place. Is it not time for Americans to take back their streets and parks from gangsters like this?

Terri Schiavo Is Each Of Us - Sentenced To Die As Useless

Don't even consider the idea that Terri Schiavo's case is either unique or particular to her family in this Machiavellian age. It is neither. An individual ordered by a court, sentenced to death by starvation because she is "a useless feeder" is each and every one of us under similar circumstances, a human over whom the state has exercised the power of life and death absent any crime and punishment being involved. The punishment is for being useless, a burden to the state, considered a soulless offspring of the detestable theory of evolution that renders all of us just an accident in primordial slime.

She is me because I am disabled with a spinal fracture. She is every maimed and "useless" veteran of the wars in which America has involved itself for political reasons and left behind the unnamed military personnel, some teenagers, whose lives will be spent as disabled persons requiring continual medical care. She is each elderly person whose life has been spent going to school, getting married, having children, being a productive worker for the government's tax program and a contributor to Social Security. She is you and me and all of these people who were disabled by an accident at work, at home, in an automobile. (Read the rest here)

The Mailbag!

Many of you have been writing comments in the feedback boxes at the bottom of the articles since the beginning. I've sent all of them to the writers, but just discovered a few days ago that the page they were supposed to show up on for everyone to read has not been working for quite some time!!! With no way to fix it, I decided to go back to the old Mailbag format and post them myself.
