Women Who Treat Women As Sex Objects
By Carey Roberts

Advisory: This week's column contains adult language. And nothing is made-up.

Picture this image: 18,000 women line up at Madison Square Garden in New York City. They pay as much as $1,000 apiece to witness the spectacle. For the audience warm-up, the women are bombarded with the word "Vagina!" Soon, the Vulva Choir is singing the praises of their inner-vagina.

The play features a series of vignettes, including one about a 13-year-old girl who is plied with alcohol and raped -- by a woman. At the end, the girl revels in her new-found liberation from heterosexuality: "I'll never need to rely on a man. If it was a rape, it was a good rape." (Read the rest here)

To Thine Own Self Be True
By Susan Callaway

Jason was excited. He had a secret, and his mind was lit up like a bonfire in the night. He was very aware of the danger in that excitement, so he counted very carefully to be sure he took the same 570 steps as always from his "pod" to the school gate. He had become an expert at pretending the disinterested, docile movements and facial expression of all the other boys.

Breakfast had been the usual slab of gray tofu, sprinkled faintly with imitation cinnamon and what passed for sugar. The nondescript"fruit juice" had been even less sweet than usual, and from long practice he was able to ignore the knot of hunger that remained. At the door, he had successfully isolated the little pink pill from the vitamin capsule, and spit it into the first bush he passed, confident that the bubbling irrigation would destroy it and fully aware that he must never for a second let anyone suspect that he was not actually under the influence of it. The zombie-like boys shuffling all around him were stark proof of it's horrible effectiveness. (Read the rest here)

IOUs Really You Owe You
By Ed Henry

Finally, people are beginning to understand that the government puts “IOUs” in the trust fund when they take our Social Security retirement money and spend it elsewhere. Keep it up. It’s a start, a probe in the right direction. There is no money in the Social Security trust fund. It holds nothing but markers like you might have with a bar tab, at a casino, or with the Mafia.

People are also starting to consider these markers “worthless,” and they truly are – to everyone but the government.

This is wonderful. If people pursue these points further, they may finally understand the entire scam. It may all come unraveled, even the fact that Social Security’s trust funds are a major swindle that is just the tip of the iceberg. (Read the rest here)

Bush’s New Defense Budget
By
Robert Higgs

When the Bush administration released its budget for fiscal year 2006 recently, the news media, as usual, had a tough time in making sense of the government’s proposals for defense spending. To some extent, we can’t blame them for their confusion, because even people who follow this subject closely have trouble sorting out the government’s various ways of stating the defense budget. Figures that appear at one place in the budget documents are often difficult or impossible to reconcile with figures that appear at other places in the documents. Conspiracy theorists might easily conclude that the government deliberately tries to make a clear understanding impossible. More charitably, we might conclude that the government simply does not know how to keep a clean set of books. (Read the rest here)

Libertarian Commentary on The News
By Nathan A. Barton © 2004

Due to circumstances beyond our control, we've got a short and late news and commentary today. Lots of news, but not much commentary. I'll resume the "character counts for lovers of liberty" tomorrow, but that doesn't mean you have an okay to go out and act like statists today just because I didn't get it done! At least that is my opinion, not necessarily that of TPoL, RRND, FND, or my readers (who are welcome to share their opinion with me, however!)

Feted and hated, Kyoto enters into force
ABC News
"After years of delays, a world plan to fight global warming went into force on Wednesday, feted by its backers as a lifeline for the planet but rejected as an economic straitjacket by the United States and Australia. The 141-nation Kyoto Protocol formally took effect at midnight EST and a ceremony in the ancient Japanese city of Kyoto, where the pact was signed in 1997, is set for later in the day." (02/16/05)

Sad news for the world, and one of the few things the US Gov has done right recently. The treaty to prevent something that has never been proven, gives the UN more control than ever of the world's economy - not to worry, though, as environist groups are counting on a lawsuit by Eskimos against the US Gov to force us to bow down.
