JPFO Alert: New Electronic ID Bill Threatens Your Firearms Ownership

JPFO -- America's Aggressive Civil Rights Organization

On Thursday, February 10, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill so filled with horrors that it makes a George Romero zombie movie look like "The Muppets Take Manhattan."

"The Real ID Act" (H.R. 418 ) sponsored by Rep. James Sensenbrenner of Wisconsin, has something in it to make everybody fear for their freedom.

* Liberals hate it because if it becomes law it would force political asylum-seekers to prove the motivations of their persecutors (literally, an impossible task).

* States-rights advocates hate it because it gives the federal government power to determine who can get drivers licenses and how those licenses will be issued. (Read the rest here)

Libertarian Commentary on The News
By Nathan A. Barton © 2004

During this season is a good time to talk about character. What character traits should a lover and defender of liberty have? Please share your ideas with me, but here is the first: A lover of liberty is meek. Yes, meek: in the sense that the word primarily means: great power held in careful control. Meekness is not weakness, rather it is the conscious decision to use what force, what effort, what influence is necessary, NOT what you are capable of. It is important for a defender of liberty to be meek: to have great power under their control - mental AND emotional. At least that is my opinion - let me know what yours is. VA: Droopy-Pants Bill Dropped in Va. Senate
All Headline News/AP
RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Virginia lawmakers dropped their droopy-pants bill Thursday after the whole thing became just too embarrassing. The bill, which would have slapped a $50 fine on people who wear their pants so low that their underwear is visible in "a lewd or indecent manner," passed the state House on Tuesday but was killed by a Senate committee two days later in a unanimous vote.

Embarrassing, I suppose, is a mild word for it. But such nannying and Grundyism is not going to go away - it requires constant vigilance. Still, we see the power of getting the word out and getting response quickly to the legis-gators. (Read the rest of the Commentary here)
