Questions For Those In Uniform
By Michael Gaddy

It would appear my recent writings: here and here, have upset some of those who serve in uniform. Some have addressed me personally, while at least one tried using the back door by writing directly to Lew to have me censored. The complaints seem to center around perceived irresponsibility on my part for relating the allegation by Ranger Mitch that it was friendly fire that caused his hell on earth, and for quoting "spurious" contacts in Iraq concerning voting irregularities.

I do not believe for a moment that people in the military today are "serving their country," nor do I believe we "support the troops" by sending them in harm’s way, thousands of miles from home to fight wars based on lies, while thousands of illegals from foreign countries, many from countries who have sworn to destroy us, cross our virtually undefended southern border each and every day. This country’s military long since ceased to serve their country, but instead, fight and die for the duplicitous State. (Read the rest here)

Democracy Is Not Freedom
by Congressman Ron Paul - R - TX

“…man is not free unless government is limited. There's a clear cause and effect here that is as neat and predictable as a law of physics: As government expands, liberty contracts.”

~ Ronald Reagan

We’ve all heard the words democracy and freedom used countless times, especially in the context of our invasion of Iraq. They are used interchangeably in modern political discourse, yet their true meanings are very different.

George Orwell wrote about “meaningless words” that are endlessly repeated in the political arena.* Words like “freedom,” “democracy,” and “justice,” Orwell explained, have been abused so long that their original meanings have been eviscerated. In Orwell’s view, political words were “Often used in a consciously dishonest way.” Without precise meanings behind words, politicians and elites can obscure reality and condition people to reflexively associate certain words with positive or negative perceptions. In other words, unpleasant facts can be hidden behind purposely meaningless language. As a result, Americans have been conditioned to accept the word “democracy” as a synonym for freedom, and thus to believe that democracy is unquestionably good. (Read the rest here)

Libertarian Commentary on The News
By Nathan A. Barton © 2004

“Farewell to meat” - the end of the holiday season and the last day before the beginning of the Lenten season, which as I understand it, is supposed to be something like an extended version of the Old Testament Day of Atonement - a time to reflect on (and change!) evil, ungodly ways. It is certainly something that could be a big help in today’s world, as we see the way liberty has been reduced and damaged (and the resulting effect on the lives of billions). At least, that’s my opinion, like the views in this commentary, if not necessarily those of RRND, FND, or TPoL. Yesterday, there were lots of un-surprises in the news, but today… aha! Let’s go see!

Supercomputer on a chip unveiled
MSNBC
"Setting up a battle for the future of computing, engineers from IBM, Sony and Toshiba unveiled details Monday of a microprocessor they claim has the muscle of a supercomputer and can power everything from video game consoles to business computers. Devices built with the processor, code-named Cell, will compete directly with the PC chips that have powered most of the world's personal computers for a quarter century." (02/07/05)

One more point on the progress curve - another tool to be used for good or evil.
