The Poor Seniors - How Do We Care For Them?
Susan Callaway, Editor

"To each according to their need, from each according to their ability". The socialist creed.
"There is no such thing as a free lunch". The Libertarian creed.

The socialists tell us that there are millions of Americans who go to bed hungry, live hopeless lives of "grinding poverty", etc., asserting loudly that it is all because the "rich" are not willing to help them enough - and must be taxed ever more to provide for these "disadvantaged".

So we have endless "programs", taxes, laws and regulations to help these people, yet there don't ever seem to be fewer of them. Unfortunately, any evaluation of the results is only seen in terms of doing more of the same because they are not willing to look at the root causes and accept the truth about human nature. Pronouncement Of Bias At The Washington Post
By Carey Roberts

I doubt that many will be shocked by the revelation that political correctness has taken hold at the Washington Post.

Take the December 18 murder of pregnant Bobbie Jo Stinnett, whose baby was cut from her mother's still-warm uterus. When news of the gruesome homicide began to trickle out, the Washington Post newsroom was astir.

Why? Because the feminist catechism teaches that women are the eternal victims at the hands of those brutish men. But in this case, the alleged killer was a woman, Lisa Montgomery.

Normally, the solution would be simple: bury the story. That's exactly what the Washington Post did, relegating the account to page A18 on December 19. (Read the rest here)

Libertarian Commentary on The News
By Nathan A. Barton © 2004

These brief notes and comments are (even if taken from someone else’s writing, as attributed) mine and not necessarily anyone else’s - not even TPoL or RRND or FND. Today I have a few items from elsewhere and some additional comments on previously reviewed news stories from the past few days.

Keeping our liberty
“Spreading liberty throughout the world, as the president wants to do, is a nice idea, but he is living in a dream world if he thinks it is practical or even possible. When you come right down to it, it’s a full time job just maintaining liberty in these United States, what with 98 percent of our elected officials forever wanting to pass laws placing new limits on American rights and freedom. . . . Even in this land of the free, even a casual observer can see that more and more people are willing to trade bits of their freedom in exchange for government-mandated security.”
- Former Reagan senior adviser Lyn Nofziger, “Musings,” 1/25/05

Florida: Collateral victims sue Elian Gonzalez kidnappers
Sierra Times
"A trial opened Monday in a $3 million-plus lawsuit by 13 people who say they were injured or traumatized when federal agents seized a screaming Elian Gonzalez from his Miami relatives' home. The opening witness was neighbor Maria Riera, who testified that she clutched her chest and thought she was dying when an agent doused her with tear gas during the April 22, 2000, raid to reunite the 6-year-old boy with his father in Cuba. The 13 neighbors and protesters are seeking up to $250,000 each, claiming that agents used excessive force during the armed raid. ... A total of 108 people sued over the raid, but U.S. District Judge K. Michael Moore limited the case to people who were not on the Gonzalez family property and were beyond police barricades." (01/25/05)

Although just one child, Elian has become a symbol of a government gone wild, and this court case will just keep that reputation (justly) alive. But even if every one of these people win their suit, it won’t take away the fact that the US Government gave a child back into totalitarian slavery.
