Dumbing Down The Church
By Doug Newman

In 2003, the Barna Research Group released a well publicized study indicating that only about 10 percent of Christian students possessed a biblical worldview. (1) I was reminded of this after talking with a friend recently after church.
My friend is not a political person, which probably speaks well of her. However, she seemed perplexed when I calmly implied that it was an outrage that Uncle Sam confiscates half our income before we can buy groceries. She responded that “we get a lot of things” for those taxes we pay.

I heard millions of people speaking. She did not recognize that taxation is theft. She had no clue that things like oppressive taxation, gun control, government education and government welfare have no scriptural basis. I told her that this just may be the first time anyone had ever told her that the Bible has something to say about a limitless array of social and political issues.

If she had never heard this in church before, it would not surprise me one bit. (Read the rest here)

Libertarian Commentary on The News
By Nathan A. Barton © 2004

As the coronation proceeds, we see a world of news “beyond the Beltway” for lovers of liberty. In my opinion (not necessarily anyone else’s, including TPoL or FND), that is more important by far. (My apologies for short commentary today, due to an injury.)

Mideast tarbabies
Iraq: At least 22 dead in latest attacks
The State
"Four car bombs killed at least 16 people around the capital Wednesday, and Iraq's most-wanted man asserted that his followers had carried out three of the attacks. Six other people were killed in attacks and assassinations across the country. ... The bombings in Baghdad, detonated the day before a major, multiday Islamic holiday, 'missed their intended targets,' according to a U.S. military statement. But they caught Iraqis on their way to work, and the toll on civilians and police was grave." (01/20/05)

Well, the daily casualty count is back up, to the average. Once more, innocent civilians are the victims of these thugs who pretend to be “freedom-fighters” - I fear the only freedom they want is to return to killing and stealing from their fellow citizens, and they fear that the elections and a new government might slow down the pace.

Mama's Note: No, the killing and stealing won't change, just who is doing them. Governments suffer no rivals.
