Laws Create Criminals
By Cat Farmer © 2004

Laws are written by the powerful, for the powerful; therefore, voting for lawmakers is like deciding which wolf may eat you for supper. Abstinence from voting is a pro-life policy, given the choices, or a pro-choice policy, because being consumed amounts to a life sentence, only shorter. Fewer laws to break result in fewer criminals: more laws to break result in more crime. Laws are a leading preventable cause of crime; hence, one suspects, the apt term "criminal law."

External codes of law stunt the cultivation of an internal code of honor, much as using an unneeded crutch hampers walking ability. There is a true form of law, and the libertarian Zero-Aggression Principle expresses it well. The Ten Commandments also encompass this law. (Thou shalt not kill, steal, bear false witness, or covet that which belongs to thy neighbor: i.e., "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.") Does electing a government to kill, steal, lie, or envy in one's stead absolve one of responsibility for aggression? Am I government until proven individual, or individual until proven government? I plead individual. (Read the rest here)

National Judicial Conduct and Disability Law Project, Inc. NJCDLP
By Ed Ward, MD, MT

After being contacted by the newly forming NJCDLP a little over a month ago, I offered my assistance. Today, I received a preliminary fold out (6 pages) color postcard from NJCDLP. It is impressive.

Michigan Dads, Fathers and Families, Million Dads, FIRM, ACFC, AFRA, CPS reform, Jail 4 Judges and ICRC were but a few of the groups I thought of that could benefit from affiliation.

I urge all reform and rights groups to consider assisting or affiliating with NJCDLP. If for nothing else to find our numbers and build on them.

"NJCDLP has designed a mailer to send about 1000 legal reform groups in late January, 2005 to introduce the NJCDLP/ Diogenese and encourage their leader(s) to visit our website as well as consider our organization THEIR PARTNER rather than competitor in legal reform. I'd like to mail a prototype of the mailer to you so, of course, you can see it and give me feedback on its content, appearance and how it holds up in the U.S. mail system. I have a mailing address handy for some of you, but would appreciate receiving an email of your mailing address at your earliest convenience." (Read the rest here)

WA: Democrat Gregoire wins gubernatorial recount
Seattle Times
"Democrat Christine Gregoire won the Washington governor's race by 130 votes out of 2.9 million ballots cast, according to final recount results announced Thursday from Seattle's King County, the last of the state's 39 counties to report. Hundreds of belatedly discovered ballots helped extend what otherwise would have been just a 10-vote advantage for Gregoire in her topsy-turvy race with Republican Dino Rossi. The first ballot count showed Rossi winning by 261 votes, and a subsequent machine recount had Rossi winning by 42. The latest recount was conducted by hand." (12/23/04)

Maybe. GOP is still chiming in on this, demanding additional rejected ballots from other counties (not Democratic strongholds) be counted. This may show that old-fashioned methods of stealing elections still have their place in the new electronic age. (Read the rest here)

The Largely Defunct Bill of Rights
by Harry Browne

The Founding Fathers created a Bill of Rights to ensure that Americans would never have to fear government prosecutors the way people in the Old World did.

Unfortunately, the Bill of Rights is a dead letter in too many ways in America. It has now become possible for prosecutors to get a conviction in virtually every case where they choose to indict – whether or not the defendant is guilty.

Fortunately, however, a number of prominent writers are alarmed about the problem – including some people you might expect to be law-and-order conservatives. (Read the rest here)
