Dear Readers

May your Christmas be filled with peace and joy, but I beg you not to forget to pray for all of those in the world who will have only war and destruction, death and suffering this year, and for many years to come.

Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Love your neighbor as yourself. This fulfills all of the law. If we even only believed that was possible, all of the wars and tyranny of the world might cease.

God be with you.

It Takes a Grinch to Ban Christmas
By Catfarmer

On Christmas Eve, as I
Walked home through the park,
An unhappy old soul sat
In the snow, cold, and dark
His sunken and sad eyes
Twinkled only with tears
That ran down his red nose
Ghastly pale he appeared
Long icicles dangling
From his frosty-white beard
A baggy and tattered
Funny red suit he wore -
With soiled white fur trim,
Black boots, and what's more,
A floppy red hat, rimmed
And topped with white fur!
In this time-worn outfit
He sat shivering: "Brrr!"

Well, Christmas is just a few hours away, and may we all exchange blessings for a Merry Christmas. It is my opinion (and is, I admit, probably that of RRND, FND, and especially TPoL) that you should enjoy a very nice holiday! Everything else in this column is not necessarily the opinion of anyone else but me. Now, I wonder, what kind of Christmas presents should be suitable for those last minute fantasies, to go along with the sugar-plum fairies and candy-cane pixies…

WA: Gregoire on top in recount, GOP vows fight
Lexington Herald-Leader
"After a bitter and protracted recount fight in the Washington state governor's race, elections officials announced yesterday that the Democratic candidate, Christine O. Gregoire, was leading her Republican opponent by 10 votes -- a minuscule margin but a stunning reversal of the Nov. 2 election results. ... Official results from the manual recount will not be announced until today, after King County reviews ... 723 disputed ballots. Republicans, who fought hard to keep those ballots out of the tally, were already vowing yesterday to press election officials to consider several hundred other disqualified ballots cast in other counties." (12/23/04)

Tit for tat, certainly. I still like the idea of disqualifying both candidates and letting the third person win, like you would with a drawing for a prize. Or, they could take turns on a weekly or daily basis. You think Washington State could use a nice present like, say, a couple million uncounted votes for the Libertarian candidate?

Mama's Note: Why not just leave the office vacant? If people once figured out that they could live very well without all these bureaucrats, I think they would like it! (Read the rest here)
