December 16, 2004 The so-called Social Security trust fund (the combination of the Federal Old Age & Survivors Insurance and the Federal Disability Insurance trusts that we normally think of as one) held about $50 billion in debt markers before this seven year shortfall and was tapped for only about half of that. Everyone in Congress knew that these trusts held nothing but debt that could only be redeemed by raising taxes, borrowing, cutting benefits or robbing Peter to pay Paul; i.e., taking it from income taxes budgeted to be spent elsewhere. By the time the Greenspan Commission delivered its final report in January of 1983, the crisis was over and few were interested in reading a long report in Greenspeak that dealt primarily with actuarial data. That’s when Moynihan and Dole meet in the halls of Congress and hatched their scheme to raise payroll taxes. (Read the rest here)

We Need the Southern Military Institute In April of this year, the Collegiate Network presented their 7th annual Campus Outrage Awards. Two schools tied for first place, Yale and University of California, Santa Barbara. Both schools had used school funds, along with the assistance of the faculty and administrators, to ‘enlighten’ students to sexual issues. Yale had a ‘Sex Week at Yale,’ and UC Santa Barbara had a presentation called ‘Gay Men of Color in Porn,’ during their ‘Race Matters Series.’ (Read the rest here)
Why
No Indictment for Bernard Kerik? Amidst all the hubbub over Bernard Kerik’s decision to remove himself from consideration as director of Homeland Security owing to his reported hiring of an illegal-immigrant nanny, no one, including the press, seems to be asking an important question: Why aren’t the feds seeking a criminal indictment against him? After all, hasn’t it been a federal felony offense since 1986 for any American to hire an illegal immigrant? Didn’t the feds charge Tyson Foods officials with hiring illegal immigrants just last year? Haven't they also targeted Walmart executives for possible indictment for the same thing? So, why no federal criminal indictment for President Bush's cabinet nominee Bernard Kerik for hiring an illegal immigrant? (Read the rest here)
