The Probability Broach: The Graphic Novel
by L. Neil Smith

Dear Friends and Readers,

I'm pleased to announce that our old friends Win Bear, Ed Bear, Clarissa MacDougall Olson, Lucy Kropotkin, Captain Forsyth, Jenny Smyth/Noble, Olongo Featherstone-Haugh, and the rest of the gang from my first novel, THE PROBABILITY BROACH, have been brought to life again.

(Originally published by Del Rey Books in 1980, and later by Tor Books, THE PROBABILITY BROACH won me the first of three Prometheus Awards, and is considered by many to be the definitive libertarian novel.)

Brief review and a link to see a free sample! Terrific! (Read the rest here)

AIPAC: Still Spying, Still Tax-Exempt
By Ted Lang © 2004

Perhaps you will recall that the American Israeli Public Affairs Committee, also known as the "Jewish lobby," was exposed once again in yet another revelation concerning an ongoing FBI investigation, which should have been tantamount to a blockbuster headline news event. It was virtually suppressed by our friends in the big media. The event was almost completely crushed by the Zionist-owned and operated corporate mainstream establishment "press." The initial and timely reports documenting this second incident relating to AIPAC spying were conspicuously posted in the real press: the Internet. (Read the rest here)

States Should End the Drug War
By Sheldon Richman

“Medicine by regulation is better than medicine by referendum.” U.S. Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer said that during last week’s arguments over the much-watched medical-marijuana case. Breyer, in other words, prefers that any change in the government’s prohibition of marijuana use be accomplished by an appeal to the federal drug-enforcement authorities rather than by a public vote in the states, such as occurred in California.

But he is really saying that medical oppression by an elite is better than medical oppression by the mob. Are those our only choices? Why must we have medical oppression at all? Why not medicine by free individual choice? That this is not even on the table shows how far our society has moved from its individualist foundations. (Read the rest here)

Bush signs off on $388 billion spending bill
MSNBC
"President Bush on Wednesday signed into law a $388 billion legislative package that covers the spending of every federal agency but the Pentagon and Department of Homeland Security. Congress sent the measure, which covers the fiscal year that began Oct. 1, to the president on Tuesday. A temporary spending measure was to expire at midnight. Congress passed the package Nov. 20." (12/08/04)

The amount of pork contained in this omnibus bill (as always with such massive lumps of spending) is phenomenal, and once more reminds us that Congress has lost all self-discipline, regardless of which party and which people are in power. As near as I can figure, every dime of this package is pure debt, and only pushes us closer to the new debt limit just passed a few weeks ago. In addition, this package SHOULD have been passed more than three months ago - another evidence of Congress and its shameful lack of attention to the people’s business in favor of getting reelected, gaining power, and generally behaving like the spoiled children of kings.
