November 15, 2004 In the presidential election just past, voter turnout hovered around 60%. That was, say those who should know, the highest voter turn-out America has seen since the 1968 presidential elections. Unfortunately, Libertarians still only garnered about the same number of votes as they did in the 2000 election. Libertarians were the only major party advocating a true adherence to the Constitution and Bill of Rights—and for the record, the other third parties didn't fare well this year, either. Along with good voter turn-out, the Libertarian party had an excellent candidate this time around in the person of Michael Badnarik. (If you don't know a lot about Mr. Badnarik, you're missing out. Keep your eyes and ears open for news on the 2008 election, and let's hope he decides to run again.) So what happened? (Read the rest here) How
Dare You Call Yourselves Christians? CHRISTIAN ..The utilization of the word now sticks in my throat and repulses me to the point of nausea. This cherished word CHRISTIAN was a word I utilized for many years to describe myself and my beliefs. I wasnt a Catholic or a Baptist although I am a product of both teachings; I was a Christian. I believed in a higher power. A power that was all knowing, forgiving and kind. A power that laid out before me 10 simple commandments to follow. You dont have to be a rocket scientist to understand the rules.
The MORAL MAJORITY has spoken according to our unquestionably honest and trustworthy government and I find that premise not only absurd but appalling. We all know that Kerry won the election and that the fix was in far in advance of November 2nd. MORAL MAJORITY MY ASS! (Read the rest here) Get
Ready For Peterson II: The Sequel Wow, what a day for a root canal! I just got back from my dentists office, turned on CNN and heard the court clerk in the Scott Peterson trial announce Peterson guilty of first degree murder in the death of his wife, Laci, and guilty of second degree murder in the death of Connor, the Petersons unborn son. The additional death of Connor establishes a Special Circumstance which makes Scott Peterson eligible for death in the penalty phase of the trial that will commence in one week.
The jury did exactly what I predicted theyd do after they got rid of the jurors who were impeding their rush to judgment: They came back with a unanimous verdict, and they did it within three days. In fact, they did it in just six hours. It was a masterful piece of jury manipulation, but I really dont think it is going to fly very far under appeal (Read the rest here) Libertarian
Commentary on The Day's News TPoL is one of many web-zines that promotes an agenda of freedom and liberty - not a political agenda, but an application of libertys principles to all aspects of life. Political liberty is just one part of the liberty that is our greatest gift from God: the freedom to make our own decisions AND to be responsible for the results of those decisions, good or bad. I hope you will consider the decision to read this column, a part of TPoL efforts to help us all live lives of greater freedom, to be a good decision! Of course, your opinion MAY differ - but what is found in here is my own opinion, not necessarily yours, or TPoLs or RRNDs or anyone elses. And that is part of what liberty is all about. As
the longer-term readers of this column know, I dont report or
comment on the same-old, same-old in the wars in Iraq or
Afghanistan, nor on certain election news: what can you say that hasnt
already been said. But lest some people (correctly pointing out that
the war in Iraq and in Afghanistan IS of importance to the cause of
freedom in the world today (whatever opining you have made regarding
the war)) are left without a clue regarding the war, I have decided
to imitate the eminent Mark Twain (in a Connecticut Yankee in King Arthurs
Court) and provide this synopsis of the wars for this week: ACTION
NEEDED! Action now needed immediately in HOUSE OF REPRESENATIVES in addition to Senate.
AAPS member of Congress makes another bid to stop mandatory psychiatric screening.
Urge your Representative to sign letter by FRIDAY Nov. 12. Last September, AAPS lifetime member, Congressman Ron Paul, M.D. (R-TX) tried to stop this insidious plan by offering an amendment to the Labor, HHS, and Education Appropriations Act for FY 2005. The amendment received 95 "yes" votes, but it failed to pass. So the House version of the bill passed.
However, Congressman Paul and several of his colleagues are not giving up. · Please forward this message to everyone. (Read the rest here)
