What Happens if there is a Tie Vote
In the Up-coming Presidential Election?

By Robert Greenslade © Nitwit Press

Since the election between George W. Bush and John Kerry is razor close and the State of Colorado is contemplating a new law that would split its electoral votes, there is a possibility the 2004 election will result in a tie. When I told a group of people discussing all the ways John Kerry can win the presidency that they had better hope the election does not result in a tie, their euphoria turned to confusion. After I told them that George W. Bush would win the election if there is a tie in the Electoral College vote, they looked at me in disbelief and asked how someone could possibly predict the winner of a tie. I told them it was simple--the answer is in the Constitution. (Read the rest here)

The Horrors of Government
By Catfarmer

And I saw a beast arise out of the lagoon of oil. He had two horns like a devil, but he spoke as a preacher…

Halloween season is here; little devils, pirates and assorted ghouls will come trolling for treats. A few will get tricks; someone I know had fun one year hiding the candy, and holding out a plate of raw Brussels sprouts first. One little girl reportedly cried. Kids still say "Trick or treat," but they're thinking, "Give me candy;" they may not recognize a trick when it's played on them even though they've just verbally threatened or invited one. Election Electives - Choices In Spite Of None
By Ted Lang © 2004

My opinion of President George W. Bush cannot be honestly stated; it would be far too vulgar. After eight years of Clinton, whom I helped to elect in 1992 by voting for third party candidate Ross Perot, I was eager for salvation from Big Brother government socialism via the GOP that I had supported for over forty years. I did indeed vote for Bush II.

As I have offered many times before in this space, starting with Bush's cave-in by not going after Clinton, at least verbally, for trashing the White House and looting the Nation's silverware, I almost immediately noticed that salvation would not be forthcoming. (Read the rest here)

American Exceptionalism
By
Ivan Eland

Many Americans, like the citizens of dominant nations of the past, believe that their way of life is superior and should be shared with other peoples—often at gunpoint. Lately, this American exceptionalism has assumed even more pernicious forms.

Whether called the Bush I administration’s “New World Order” or the Clinton administration’s “Engagement and Enlargement” or the Bush II administration’s effort to “liberate” Afghanistan, Iraq, and perhaps the entire Middle East, using military force to bring democracy and market economies to errant peoples has been a staple of both Democratic and Republican administrations since World War II. Similarly, the Roman, British, Spanish and other empires believed they were civilizing conquered lands with their ways of doing things. (Read the rest here)

Libertarian Commentary on The Day's News
By Nathan A. Barton © 2004

Just one steenking week left! Then no more POLITICAL ADS! For at least a week, until the 2006 campaign starts. Can we all hold on? Meanwhile, the frenzy of vote-buying and vote-scaring continues for the next seven days: is it any wonder my comments and opinions are on the dour side? Of course, they are mine, and no one else's, not even necessarily TPoL or RRND. But if you have your own opinions, please, share with us!

A1) GOP Head Tries To Censor Talk Of Draft
DEMOCRACY NOW - The head of the Republican National Committee has threatened to take legal action against the pro-voting group Rock the Vote and to challenge its nonprofit status if the group continues to discuss the possibility that the government may reinstate the draft. In an extraordinary letter sent last week that has received almost no media attention, Republican chief Ed Gillespie wrote to the group and accused it of "promoting a false and misleading campaign designed to scare America's youth into believing that they may be drafted to serve in the military."
Commentary: Censorship it is, even though "Rock the Vote" is guilty of fearmongering, indeed. As for the censorship - well, both the GOP and the Demos are guilty of it, as they continue to fight to decide which branch of the old party will control the USG next.
