The GOP congressional leadership is pushing for a national ID, in the form of federally "standardized" drivers licenses, and their bill is getting closer to being sent to President Bush's desk, either before or after the November election. It fits in perfectly with the liberal agenda of controlling the travel of the population to "reduce environmental impact" and "reduce consumption" of limited natural resources. However, there are many GOP and Democratic congressmembers that are leery of it - enough to keep it from coming to a vote, or even defeat it, if enough of their constituents contact them about it, especially during the last few weeks of the election campaign. The Draft Is
One Headline Away When
the Ready Reserves are called back to active military, we've got a very
serious military manpower shortage. The problem is that the older and
paunchy Ready Reserves are quite literally the bottom of the barrel
before the United States military has to rely on a draft to fill its
manpower needs. So far, around 30% of the Ready Reservists called back
to active duty are refusing to answer that call.
My
Retirement Plans, or How I'll Live on $1.98 a Week When I was young and naive and thought the saying, "I'm from the government and I'm here to help you" didn't mean the exact opposite of what it says, I really thought my Social Security went into a little account with my name on it. Like there was a bank at some government building in Washington, DC, with a name like "The Social Security Bank," and there was a box for me that they put my money in, and when I retired the government would mail me a monthly check for thousands of dollars, which of course would support me in my daily round of Putt Putt golf on my personal Putt Putt golf course on my yacht, while I cruised up and down the coast. Ha ha! Instead, when I got wised up, I found the money they were taking from me weekly was being sent out as fast as the government could send it, to support all those retirees who had come out on the other end of the Geezifier. In other words, my little box didn't exist, and it was empty anyway! So I could forget about my yacht, and definitely about the Putt Putt golf, unless I wanted to bury an empty dog-food can in the ground like I did when I was a kid, and knock a beat-up golf ball into it with a tree branch. Libertarian
Commentary on The Day's News The Ides of October is upon us, and only 13 more days for Hallowe'en candy purchases AND the infamous October Surprise to influence the national jokes called presidential elections. Of course, that is MY opinion - you may be on a different subjective time schedule of your own, give something other than candy for trick-or-treaters, or even more amazingly, believe that it is no joke. But then, it is MY opinion, and not necessarily that of TPoL, RRND, or anyone else! 1)
