Your Fair Share

I don't recall that I've ever heard any rational man or woman seriously suggest that people or groups be treated unfairly by other people or groups. Meanwhile, I've heard a whole lot of people demand their fair share of fair treatment. This strikes me as eminently reasonable and, well, fair. The problem that's been blatantly brought home to me lately, however, is that those demanding fair treatment are somehow deeply offended and even angered when that same fair treatment is given to others. 1- CAPPS II becomes Secure Flight

One of the most nauseating turns of affairs in recent years in the warrens of the Capitol and those five or however many rabbit hutches that huddle around it is the love of cutesy names for the various further infringements of liberty these people foist upon us each month. From ISTEA and USA PATRIOT Act to this "Secure Flight," the unreality of their world-view becomes more apparent. Business has already demonstrated that it cannot manage any sort of a valid database to tell anything more than that (maybe) someone (might have) purchased a ticket (of some kind) for a flight (presumably on THEIR airline). Now the Kongruss-mini-bummers think that the vaunted DHS and TSA can do it? Please, my stomach is upset enough just by the headline. (Read the rest here)

Booga-Booga From Greenspeak -- Again

The timing was perfect. Washington's version of Professor Irwin Corey delivered the same old tired and untrue story of a baby-boomer crisis looming on the horizon and about to wreck havoc on the Social Security system unless something is done soon.

Again, the story is that there are 76 million boomers born after 16 million servicemen returned from World War II in late 1945 and, although it is never stated so, the implication, propaganda, or whatever you want to call it, is that this horde of births between 1946 and 1965 is somehow unusual – that it represents births above normal.
