Libertarian Commentary on The Day's News
By Nathan A. Barton © 2004

Well, the end of another week, and more opinions and comments that are those of the author and not necessarily anyone else! There is no formal tie between TPoL, FND, FMN, or much else! For more great news, click here. (Mama's note: Actually, there IS a "formal tie". The Price of Liberty is a Free Market.Net partner site.)

1- U.S. gov blows over $8 billion in Iraq
Houston Chronicle
As if everyone didn't already have enough on their plate! That's more than 10% of the total special appropriation for Iraq - and they gave it to 'Ayrabs'!!!! You know, Americans used to be the sharp dealers - all those scams and such that Mark Twain used to write about that were perpetrated in England and France. But now, who is scamming who?

2- DoJ proclaims Goose Creek school raid okay
The State
Amazing. Remember this if you have any children or relative's children or grandchildren or neighbor children in GRTF schools!

You will be Not be Voting for a Presidential Candidate in the November Election
By Robert Greenslade
© Nitwit Press

In the up-coming presidential election, Americans will be going to the polls thinking they are casting their vote directly for the President and Vice President of the United States. In reality, they will be voting for a representative called an elector. Each of the political parties, in the several States and the District of Columbia, appoints a slate of electors pledged to vote for their candidate. It is the electors of the party that wins the popular vote in each State who vote for the President and Vice President, not the people. In fact, the Constitution does not contain any provision authorizing the people to vote for a presidential or vice-presidential candidate. The legislatures of the several States have the constitutional authority to simply appoint their electors and completely exclude the people from the election process. (Read the rest here)

Is "Stop-Loss" Of Troops Enslavement?
By Nathan A. Barton © 2004

On August 19, Nathan made this comment about an article in the Free Market.Net Commentary, to which the editor made the following response. This article is his answer to the question posed: "Show me where they signed up for an indefinite time."
4- Soldier sues U.S. military over stop-loss enslavement
Seattle Post-Intelligencer
I certainly welcome a lawsuit like this, but fear the man has very little case: he signed the contract voluntarily and had it explained to him in language designed for a fifth grader to understand (even though the army isn't taking anyone but HS grads) - "stop-loss" is no more slavery than any other employment contract, or, for that matter, than a wedding vow "until death do us part."

Mama's Note: Now, wait a minute! They didn't sign up for life! They signed up for a definite limited period and being forced to stay after that time is up most certainly IS slavery. Show me where they signed up for an indefinite time.

Good news! Our feedback page is fixed at last. You can see your comments here now. We are sorry, but all old feedback was lost in the process. Please remember: if you want a reply, you must type your email address into the body of your comments (form at the bottom of each article). Not all feedback can be answered, but many of the writers enjoy doing so and are disappointed when they can't. Thanks for your patience and support! MamaLiberty

Free "The Hunter"

Free Hunter: Collateral Damage
by Carl Bussjaeger

American Independence Day has come and gone, along with the traditional boom and glare of fireworks that bring joy to many kids, young and old.

Picture two such of the younger children: Adorable little girls just six and four years old respectively, Mikayla and Brittany. Imagine their anticipation as the big day approaches and they look forward not only to the beloved fireworks, but also to the arrival of their favorite uncle Jeff, whom they haven't seen in months.

Now picture the adorable little girls' disappointment because a suited goon in Ohio wouldn't let Uncle Jeff come see his family. Yes, Mikayla and Brittany are just two more victims of the Ashland County, Ohio prosecutor's office.

Call them "collateral damage," more innocents caught in the cross-fire as the run-amuck prosecutors pursue their vendetta against Jeffrey "Hunter" Jordan. (Read the rest here)
